Prepare your clients for deep exploration-work
• (speak slow) “Thank you, X, for your time today”
• “Happy to be with you”
• Take a minute to connect with how your client is being
• “Before we start, is there anything you need, to become fully present
to our conversation?”

Simple steps to define a ‘golden objective’
with your coachee for your session
1. What is most important for us to explore
today?
2. How is this important to you?
3. At a deeper level, what could this be about?
4. With all of what you shared in mind, what
would be a very valuable objective for our
session?
5. And what would you like to take away from
our session? (‘measure of success’)
Ask what the key-words mean to the client
(e.g., ‘fear’, ‘concern’, ‘change’, ‘succeed’, ‘better’,
‘different’, ‘horrible’, ‘painful’, ‘demoralizing’,…)
Notice emotions, energy, hesitations,
and ask what they may be about
Example of questions
(speak slow - you are asking million-dollar questions! )

•Catch signs of what’s happening
within the client’s mind, heart & guts
•Dive deep within the client’s body
(breathe to connect whole body)
Practical tips to
leverage your
clients’
energy shifts,
emotions,
metaphors,
body language
or tone,
and uncover
their most precious
knowledge
 Energy shift: “what triggered it?”;
“what happened inside of you?”
 Emotions: “what message could your emotion have
for you?”; “as those tears are coming down your
cheeks, what is coming up to your mind?”
 Metaphors: “could this metaphor relate to your
situation and you? how?”
 Body language: “what could your hand be knowing
about (…)?”; “as you said (…), your upper-body
straightened up; what happened inside?
 Tone: “your voice sounded steely when you shared
(…) what could that reveal about your inner-state
at that moment?”
Always ask permission for any observation you wish to share,
and then ask if it resonates in some way within the client
