WAYNE - Heads of various
municipal departments recently
met with the town council for an
annual public budget to catch up
and discuss upcoming agendas.
The mayor’s budget for 2012-
2013 stands at $77.8 million.
Council members are still busy
assessing numbers, at which time
the final amount could be lower.
This year’s budget is higher by
$1,132,269 million.
The municipal tax rate said Bob
Miller, township chief financial
officer, is 98.98 percent and the
debt ratio is .52 percent. Debt ratio
is a financial ratio that indicates
the percentage of a company’s
assets provided through debt. The
tax increase on an average home
assessed at the township average
of $228,816 has increased by 1.48
percent, leaving taxpayers to fork
over $99.85 this year as opposed
to $89.65 more paid out in 2011.
The municipal tax levy, which is
the amount raised in taxes to bal-ance
the budget, totals $55.4 mil-lion.
Similar to other years, health
care costs continue to be the
biggest influence in terms of cost
hikes. This budget reflects an
increase of approximately
$1,576,700, said Miller, who

WAYNE – Last weekend at
Wayne Valley High School, hun-dreds
slept in tents, walked the
track, and remembered and hon-ored
those affected by cancer at
the sixth annual Relay for Life
event.
Students from the community
helped organize the event, along
with Relay chairs Quinn Fohlinger
and Taylor Crossnohere.
“We started planning for this
event right after last year’s ended,”
said Crossnohere. “This is our
biggest relay yet.”
The Wayne Valley student said
that committee members staff, and
volunteers were at the school from
7:30 a.m. last Saturday and fin-ished
cleaning up around 9 a.m.
Sunday.
“We have a committee and dif-ferent
chairs each year,” Crossno-here
said.
According to the event’s web-site,
more than $89,000 had been
raised at the time of the event, with
over 850 participants signed up,
and 48 teams formed. The team
