Catching Killers –
Documentary
The Netflix Documentary Catching Killers, is a series of episodes each focused on a different murder case.
The documentary shows conversations with the police officers, investigators and the lead detectives who
were on the case and their journey through the murders.
They also include pictures of the victims, evidence in the cases and videos of the murder on trial and voice
tapes recording of the interview. They included these things to giving the episode more of a chilling
atmosphere as you are actually seeing the murders, the victims and the murder weapons what were used
while learning all information the lead detectives learnt.
This was a very successful documentary series as it in Netflix’s top ten for two weeks and has a 7.1 / 10
rating out of 2.1k. This documentary became so successful as they were able to recreate events in the cases
and also showed real footage. The music also created a very mysterious and serious atmosphere which
makes the audience want to learn more as they are closer into finding out who the murder was.
The catching Killers documentary is a expository documentary as eexpository documentaries establish a
specific point of view or argument on a subject, and the narrator often addresses the spectator directly,
stressing the relationship between the pictures on-screen and providing spoken commentary.
In the documentary they also use stock videos, archival footage, b roll and re-enactments of historical events
and they have used all of this in order to support and bolster the documentaries verbal narrative. They use
the officers or the detectives voice for the voice over the part of the case they are discussing and talking
about how they felt about it and how they thought about the case.

Demographic – Catching
Killers
The demographic for catching killers would be 16 to 30 years old, as I
believe that people have a fasciation with true crime and how
evil fascinates us. People are fascinated by how people are driven to these
extreme acts and what makes them tick, since we have never
committed murder.
“We want some insight into the psychology of a killer, partly so we can
learn how to protect our families and ourselves," Lost Girls author Catilin
Rother, this quote shows how we wish to understand the killer and why
they would commit such a destructive act.
There is a high demand for true crime documentaries as many people
watch them from the comfort of their own home and wish to understand
how and why they commit such acts, but they also want to know how they
were able to catch the killer.
I believe that religion, education, occupation and family size matters for this
target audience as this is more based on age and gender as they are the
main target audience. The age and gender will have more of affect then the
religion or education as young adults and teenagers would want to watch
true crime documentaries as they are more intrigued by crimes and want to
understand why.

The social dilemma documentary is about the effect mobile phone and the social media how such a huge impact on
today's life and today's youngest generation as they are begin raised by mobile phone where social media can have a
devastating effect on their lives.
The documentary explains the effects of social media, how social media are run by ai which none has control over and
how business use social media to sell your information to business so they can target you better with adverts.
In the documentary they were able to get Tristan Harris, Jaron Lanier and Jeff Seibert , very vocal people who
understand the situation we are in and informing people on how to change and why.
Tristan Harris talks about his personal experience at google and tells us how when he worked at google, he sent an
email around saying that we should not make google mail so addictive as there has to be some restriction for people
using their email too much as it can change their mental health, he talk how it reached the CEO and how people were
supporting one day and the next day there was no talk. He was disappointed as how people didn’t want to help people
using phones so much and only cared about the money.
Throughout the documentary we see a typical family which is surrounded by social media and how the son gets involved
with a serious problem and how each video he watches more information goes to different business and finally gets
advertising for serious things such as guns and armor, which quickly changes to him going to a revolt with a community
problem. This shows us that the media has such an easy influence over our minds and that they subconsciously change
our thoughts through advertising.
We find out very important information about technology such as there are many systems in place which look at how
long we read something or look at a video, how we look at suggested videos and which videos we watch. In the
documentary one of the cast talk about how at Facebook there are virtual dials where they can change how many people
are on Facebook, increasing video circulation and changing monition. This is a expository while also poetic as it tries to
create an emotion for the audience but also it shows different types of information and has interviews with people who
understands the social media ai while it shows stock videos, archival footage, b roll and re-enactments of historical

The Social Dilemma –
Documentary
Demographic – Social
Dilemma
The demographic for the social dilemma would be 15 to 24 years old as
the social dilemma is more aimed at their age demographic as it involves
them and their generation as they are the ones to be more effected by
social media and the internet.
15 to 24 years old are the main demographic audience that this
documentary aim for as they need to show the younger generation what
is happening behind the screens and how they need to see what is
happening and how to change it as it can really affect society in the later
future and destroy many lives.
We see in today's society that social media has a very big part to play as
this is how people communicate with each other but also the negative
effects such as mental health problems, anxiety, depression and eating
disorders. Children and teenager are seeing models and thinking why I
can't be her, which destroys their self confidence in themselves and
believe they aren't worth anything, this needs to change as there are
many cases of children and teenagers harming themselves.
Religion, education and income would not play a big part in this
demographic as age and gender will play more of a part as it effects
more younger people. And many people how have a religion or a
different come will have some access to the internet or a mobile phone.

What the Health? - Documentary
What the health documentary is about how the food industry is hiding some much information about eh
food we eat on the daily basis and how becoming vegan is better for our body and mental health issues.
The participatory documentary shows the journey of Kip Anderson how talks to food experts, doctors and
scientist how understand the human body and what type of food we need to eat to be healthier and how the
food industry fills our food with so much fat and unwanted chemicals to make us more.
Throughout the journey we see how animals are being raised and how other farms are spreading harmful
chemicals into forest close to homes make the place unhabitable.
Kip Anderson is very involved in this documentary as he want to show the audience the filmmaker is a
character. He does this as the interviewer’s questions are included in the edit. In other
documentary genres, subjects answer interview questions, but the questions themselves are edited out. In
the participatory mode, the audience is allowed to see or hear the filmmaker asking the questions. This
establishes a clearer relationship between the filmmaker and the interview subject, while also giving the
viewer a more "behind the scenes" look at how the filmmaker elicited the subject's responses. The viewer
is aligned with the filmmaker. The audience experiences the film through the filmmaker's point of view,
allowing them to intuit how the filmmaker felt in the moment and consider how they might have reacted
in the same situation.

Demographic–What the Health?
What the health demographic is mainly based on age and family size as
the documentary is trying to inspire young people to change their eating
habits and truly look at the food products they are eating on a daily basis,
as many of the food corporation but unhealthy chemicals or unwanted
waste in their products to get rid of them or make them tastier for the
consumer to continue to eat them.
Family size is also a main demographic as in the documentary Kip
Anderson shows many families who have been affected by food products
they have eaten and how families living next to farm ran by the
corporations are dumping their waste into the water supply making it
unhabitable and a horrible smell.
Gender, income , marital status , occupation , religion and education are
not a main part of the demographic as the concept of the documentary is
to education young people and families about the food industry and how
they change information and do not truly show how they are supported by
in order for their Comsumers to trust them and eat their products.
We see in today's society that many fast-food chains advertise their
products to everyone and mainly the youths and they do not how their
products are truly supplied or made. Kip Anderson wants to educate the
younger generation to be aware of what they are truly eating and how
becoming a vegan can not only help the planet but also can increase your
immune system and help your body in many ways,

And many people how have a religion or a different come will have some access to the internet or a mobile phone. 20XX Pitch deck title 5
  • 6. The participatory documentary shows the journey of Kip Anderson how talks to food experts, doctors and scientist how understand the human body and what type of food we need to eat to be healthier and how the food industry fills our food with so much fat and unwanted chemicals to make us more. Throughout the journey we see how animals are being raised and how other farms are spreading harmful chemicals into forest close to homes make the place unhabitable. Kip Anderson is very involved in this documentary as he want to show the audience the filmmaker is a character. He does this as the interviewer’s questions are included in the edit. In other documentary genres, subjects answer interview questions, but the questions themselves are edited out. In the participatory mode, the audience is allowed to see or hear the filmmaker asking the questions. This establishes a clearer relationship between the filmmaker and the interview subject, while also giving the viewer a more "behind the scenes" look at how the filmmaker elicited the subject's responses. The viewer is aligned with the filmmaker. The audience experiences the film through the filmmaker's point of view, allowing them to intuit how the filmmaker felt in the moment and consider how they might have reacted in the same situation. 20XX Documentary Market Research 6
  • 7. Demographic–What the Health? What the health demographic is mainly based on age and family size as the documentary is trying to inspire young people to change their eating habits and truly look at the food products they are eating on a daily basis, as many of the food corporation but unhealthy chemicals or unwanted waste in their products to get rid of them or make them tastier for the consumer to continue to eat them. Family size is also a main demographic as in the documentary Kip Anderson shows many families who have been affected by food products they have eaten and how families living next to farm ran by the corporations are dumping their waste into the water supply making it unhabitable and a horrible smell. Gender, income , marital status , occupation , religion and education are not a main part of the demographic as the concept of the documentary is to education young people and families about the food industry and how they change information and do not truly show how they are supported by in order for their Comsumers to trust them and eat their products. We see in today's society that many fast-food chains advertise their products to everyone and mainly the youths and they do not how their products are truly supplied or made. Kip Anderson wants to educate the younger generation to be aware of what they are truly eating and how becoming a vegan can not only help the planet but also can increase your immune system and help your body in many ways, 20XX Documentary Market Research 7
