ABOUT THE EVENT
27 April 2015
According to the NSW Government’s Public Service Commission, women account for just over 60% of the NSW Public Sector workforce but
approximately only 30% of senior executive level positions. This lack of diversity at a senior level while acknowledged, is yet to be completely rectified
due to a variety of internal and external obstacles still existing both in the social and organisational fabric of the Public Sector.
Evidence continues to demonstrate that diversity has a significant impact on business outcomes with a gender diverse workforce increasing the
talent pool and overall capability and innovation of an organisation. The New South Wales Government’s 2021 plan recognises that a diverse
workforce will add value to effective service delivery and is crucial in order to meet the growing demands of a changing and complex Public Sector
landscape.
The Public Sector Women in Leadership NSW Summit 2015 aims to explore the diverse array of challenges that make it difficult for women to
access, acquire and remain in senior leadership positions. With an outstanding speaker faculty, the Summit will empower and inspire current and
emerging female leaders and provide real solutions and practical strategies to assist women to achieve their leadership goals and carve out the
Public Sector career they desire.
Featuring success stories, insights and coveted advice from senior female leaders, the summit provides expert leadership strategies and solutions to
a multitude of common challenges in the current complex and ever-changing climate of the Public Sector in 2015.

Resilient Leadership - The key to long-term, exceptional Public Sector leadership
The NSW Public Sector is a complex and constantly changing environment that places pressure on its leaders to perform optimally at all times. With
decreasing time frames but escalating demands and workloads it is becoming increasingly difficult to continually maintain high-performance and fulfil
your potential as a transformational leader. The complexity of issues faced as well as the set-backs experienced can also make it difficult for female
leaders to maintain career and leadership momentum. It is therefore crucial that existing and aspiring leaders recognise the risks associated with working
in high-pressure environments and take steps to handle those stressors in the most productive way in order to harness their leadership potential.
This experiential workshop will focus on practical techniques to reduce stress, build resilience and maintain high-performance and productivity. As
an attendee, you will receive a personalised Resilience Diagnostic Report (online self-assessment to be completed before the workshop) with results
debriefed in the workshop. You will learn evidence-based, best-practice tools for overcoming stress and fatigue and rejuvenating performance in
order to optimise your capacity to lead transformational change in the NSW Public Sector.
In this interactive workshop, Madeleine will provide practical tools for:
• Mastering stress- developing your ability to remain clear, calm and focused under pressure
• Fostering physical strength and vitality- a key element of effective leadership
• Cultivating a high-performance mindset
• Developing resilience and understanding
• Leading with perspective and purpose
• Optimising your ability to influence
• Managing personal and professional set-backs effectively
• Developing your ability to lead with enhanced emotional resilience and self-awareness
• Developing your executive leadership presence and confidence

“Experience forged through fire makes you
stronger and wiser - it is all important”
Along your leadership journey there will be many situations
which will stretch your skills, experience and understanding,
with the hardest projects or assignments often teaching
us the most about ourselves and our capabilities. The first
hard jump is often from being a technical expert to middle
management and then again to an executive level where
the mastery of skills such as influence, negotiation, flexibility
and agility become the hallmark of success. In this session,
Deidre will discuss how to recognise those learning moments
and then how they can be translated into your leadership
toolkit in a way that is uniquely ‘you’. Explore:
• Reflecting on and analysing your experiences to increase
learning and development
• Transitioning through leadership roles effectively

“Don’t dismiss the positive feedback you receive
about your potential – they might be right!”
Women, regardless of their seniority and career achievements,
have a tendency to severely undervalue and undersell their
skills, abilities, experiences and the value that they add to their
teams and organisations. Women often struggle to take on
positive feedback and tend to deflect compliments and attribute
thier success to others or luck. This lack of confidence is highly
detrimental to leadership effectiveness and inhibits career
progression. In this session, Tracey will reflect upon her most
crucial leadership lessons and will explore:
• The problem with Imposter Syndrome - overcoming self-doubt,
owning your achievements and knowing your value
• Key advice for current and emerging female leaders and
lessons learnt

Transformational change in this environment involves

in transition from a largely government-funded organisation
into one operating in a more commercial and contestable
environment. In this session, Pam will outline the many
challenges faced in leading this transformation as Managing
Director of TAFE NSW and lessons learned from the
greatest leadership challenge of her career. Pam will also
