1. The use of the bedroom establishes the domestic lifestyle of Serenity and the bedroom is the
only private place she is able to express her frustration and true feelings of her peers, she also
documents her new-found confidence with the montage of her outfit changes to signify her bold
and creative personality.
As a group we decided to have a typical setting in a 'coming of age' film to establish the school
setting and emphasises the importance of the complications and stress that school life
contributes to Serenity's personality.
As a group we chose to shoot our protagonist in a bus around Wandsworth common to
establish her new-found independence and in our trailer we wanted to create the resolution of
the narrative so we aimed to make the ending of ‘Ambivalent’ ambiguous to make the audience
question Serenity’s next location or the next stage of her life.
2. The use of the long shot of Serenity walking outside the school symbolizes her introverted
persona which is contrasted with the yellow wall as the colour 'yellow' symbolises happiness,
optimism, positivity and enlightenment which are all the attributes Serenity wants to embrace in
order to prepare her for the next stage of her life.
