MLA Checklist:
• First page, in the upper left corner, single-spaced:
a. Your name
b. Instructor’s first and last name
c. English 101-(Section #)
d. Date
e. Remember this mnemonic: “You and me on a classy day.”
• Title:
a. Centered, 12 pt. font, not bolded/italicized/underlined.
b. If there is a subtitle: The main title is on top and followed by a colon (:). The
subtitle is right below. It is the same size, etc. as the main title.
c. All words except prepositions (of, from, for, etc.) are capitalized.
• Body of paper:
a. The paper is double-spaced with 1-inch margins.
b. The paper is in 12 pt font, Times New Roman.
c. Your last name is at the top of each page in the header followed by the page
number (e.g. Flathers 1). It’s okay if there’s no header on the first page.
d. Paragraphs are indented.
• Work Cited:
a. It’s on a new page.
b. It’s titled “Works Cited.”
c. It’s in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
d. It’s got a hanging indent (first line is left-justified and all subsequent lines are
indented).
e. It’s double-spaced
