the
raduating from Messiah College this
past spring presented Reinhard with the
same choices that every other senior faces.
He was being told he needed to choose a career, find a
place to live, and to settle into the daily grind. Connor
chose to do none of those things. Instead, he set out on
a cross-country journey in his silver Chrysler Town and
Country minivan, without so much as a map or the slight-
est hint of a plan. Even so everythings has seemed to
be working out so far for this minivan ragamuffin.
His goal was to end up on the beaches of the west
coast, but he took his time to get there, stopping in
every small town, and meeting up with strange and
interesting folk from all over the country. When
he needed money, he washed dishes in the local
diner, or found some work to do for one of
the townspeople. He never worked to make
money, just to provide for his needs. When
that was accomplished, he would head
out for the next town along the way, all
the while saying “California or Bust.”
He hit a roadblock by the time he got to
Nashville, however. As we has driving
down the road, smoke started seeping
out the sides of the hood of his van. He
pulled over and realized that this might
be a problem. He was able to get his car
to a garage, but had no money to pay
for the repairs. He ended up being able
to get an odd job at a small local venue,
fufilling his passion for music as well as
raising money to continue his trip.
While working there for three months, he
stayed above the venue in the worlds small-
est room, saving up his money so he could
continue his journey west. But somehow,
Nashville grew to feel like home, and
he felt like neither leaving nor staying
would be the best option. But he
thought back to why he started
this voyage, and he decide
that keeping a job would
be unture to himself.
