Question 3What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution which would be Harris Publications Inc because they already publish
music magazines similar to mine so I know they have similar target audiences who like R&B
music so my magazine would sell well, also my magazine is targeted at people of a younger age
which is different to their usual target audience of around 25 so my magazine would have no
compotition with the other magazines they already publish, it would stand out from the rest
and sell very well. It also gives the publishers a wider target audience as more younger people
will start buying the magazine not just people around the age of 21-25. Bauer wouldn’t be good
distributers as the types of magazines they sell have the genre of rock and punk like ‘Kerrang’
which is completely different to mine so their target audience is different which means they will
be much less likely to buy my magazine. IPC would also not be a good institution to distribute
my magazine as they distribute magazines like ‘what’s on tv’ these magazines do not have
anything to do with music and their target audience is between 40-50 which is much older than
my target audience so it would be pointless them publishing my magazine.

Question 4Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be someone aged between 16-19 years old, they could
either be male or female because my magazine is targeted to both genders and be working
class as the magazines genre is R&B and is only targeted to young teenagers so it wouldn’t
appeal to people who are upper class as the class of the people in my magazine articles are of
working class, I have done this so it is easy for teenagers to relate to the magazine. The race of
the person who is likely to buy my magazine would be white or black british as the artist in the
magazines are these two races so the reader will be able to relate to them if they are from the
same background. My magazine is very much like another R&B magazine called ‘Vibe’ it has
very similar articles and is targeted at people of the same ages.

Question 5How did you attract/address your audience?
My colour palette is red,
white and black. Red is the
     main colour on the
magazine as it is the colour
     of the main mastehead.
The image is of a teenage girl
Red is a very bold and
                                                                                              showing a very seductive and
     bright colour which is
                                                                                              confident pose and she is
     attractive to the audience
                                                                                              looking directly into the
                                                                                              camera which makes the
By having an article about winning free reader drawn in to the front
tickets to 2013 summertime ball it attracts cover and wants to read more
the reader as the magazine is giving things
away so they will be more likely to buy it if
they know they might get something back
from it.

To address my audience I used a very informal way of writing which teenagers will relate to
very easily a teenager is more likely to buy a magazine using informal language than formal
language because it’s easy to read and its they way they speak on a day to day basis.

            AUDIENCE FEEDBACK.

            Question 6-

Question 7- Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

From the preliminary task I have learnt a lot of things for my preliminary task of making a
college magazine I didn’t have to put a lot of care into it, whereas for my music magazine I had
to put a lot of time and care into it because it had to be as close as possible to a real magazine
so I couldn’t afford and mistakes or messiness. For the music magazine I had to use a DSLR
camera and take pictures of my model in the green room, I used that camera because it has
very sharp quality and by taking pictures in the green room I could easily edit out the
background using photoshop. Both the preliminary task and main task were done in photoshop
however I had to use a lot more things on photoshop for my music magazine to make it look
professional and make sure everything was in line and neat. My image had to be pin sharp and
have no shadows, the edges of the image had to be smooth so it didn’t look like an amateurs
            work.

When designing my college and music magazines I had to draw out what I wanted the pages to
look like, this was much more difficult for the music magazine because I had to draw a front
cover, contents page and double page spread whereas for the preliminary task I only had to do
a front cover and contents page. I had to make the music magazine look very professional so I
made many drafts of the different pages of the magazine on Photoshop until I got it right.
