How media represents social groups and stereotypes
1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
2. Representation Indies emos Scene goths Chavs Above is a representation of different stereo types within society.
3. My magazine representation Women in media today are represented as sexual objects, who aren’t very intelligent. My magazine in fact shy’s away from this and interprets women as they really are. I have aimed my magazine at both males and females so that both men and women are shown to have the same interests, music, gigs, festivals etc. Also that it is ok for them both to have the same interests. Also men in today’s society are seen as dominant and “macho” often showing off their masculine figures again I have shy’d away from the typical stereotype of men and perhaps shown the more sensitive side to men. I did this by the choice of main sell, by choosing someone who isn’t very muscular, and by asking him certain questions you were able to see the sensitive side to men. As my magazine is aimed at indie/rock fans there is an element of stereotyping because It is aimed at one group of people, my magazine is perhaps male dominated as there is a male on my front cover contents and double page spread, but I didn’t intend to make it that way. I’d like to think that females will pick my magazine up and like it because they are also my target audience.
4. Representation 2 The dominant ideology of youth today is that they go out and get drunk every night, not very intelligent, lazy and not having any respect for the older generation. Even though this is the view of most people there is an emergent ideology that youth are respecting older people, they do have future plans and are talented. This is portrayed in my magazine, through the love of music of the fans, also through the interview with my main sell.
