13. Tone
Tone is the writer’s attitude towards the
subject of the piece, the audience, and self.
Tone is conveyed with the use of the
author’s words and details.
It is the what the author himself feels
toward the setting or the character, and what he
wants the readers to feel.
14. Example:
James didn’t want to go into
that dark room and preferred to
stay where he was.
James was scared.
15. Example:
The sun was shinning so
bright that Margaret wanted to
run around the garden singing
all day .
Margaret was excited and
happy.

17. •What do you think
is the tone of the
video clip
presented?
18. Mood
Mood is the emotion evoked by a
text in the reader or it is the emotion the
reader gets when reading the story.
The mood depends on what the
reader feels.
19. Example: The big round moon is shinning
brightly as the day. Although the scene
was beautiful, the shadow of the
branches from the dead tree outside
my bedside window looks like long
hands of a monster ready to snatch
me out of bed.
The mood was scary.
20. Example: The five year old child was crying
out loud. Every blow from his father’s
iron like fist makes his body cringe.
Soon, he no longer feels the pain nor a
cry can be heard from his pallid lips.
The kicked he received from his father
broke his rib until he came down limp.
The mood the was anger to the father
and pity for the son.
