3. Intended Purpose
The intended purpose of this analysis is to compare and contrast the previously
stated photo sharing apps functionality on a personal basis, and all judgements are made
through this goal in mind.
4. Features Analyzed
Of the many features that appear on the Apps selected, here are the ones analyzed in
this presentation
● Privacy
● Photo Sharing
● Memory
● Cross Compatibility
● Personalization
● Creative Features
● Non-Photo Sharing Capabilities
● Inspiration Accessibility
● Entertainment
● Political Impact
5. Snapchat
Snapchat is unique because photo sharing is the main function of the app to this day. The
following are features that help Snapchat remain relevant.
● Snapchat has several communication features in one location. This includes Text
Chat, Photo Sharing, and Video Sharing.
● Snapchat has a Filter option that content creators can use to create new filters and
publish them for profit.
● Snapchat has a Story feature that is widely used by most Snapchat users.
● Snapchat has a Memories feature which saves any selected pictures onto the app.
It can also upload these pictures directly to your device. This, however, requires a
lot of memory space in your device.
7. Pinterest
Pinterest uses it unique formatting and varied features to attract and maintain users.
Here are some of Pinterests defining features.
● Pinterest has many niche following that allow users access to a lot of helpful
information.
● While there is not as active entertainment options, Pinterest makes up for it in
creative outlets. There are many ways to find inspiration on Pinterest through
Targeted Searches in their Search feature.
● Pinterest has a wide variety of content, making it an active photo sharing platform,
and making the app less formal when compared to a competitor like Instagram.
9. Instagram
Instagram has a few unique qualities that separates it from the other Photo Sharing apps.
● Instagram has an interactive Direct Message (DM) feature to help connect users
● Instagram has a permanent photo image feed, meaning what you post will remain
on your profile until deleted.
● Instagram users can interact with many features, including Stories, Reels, Private
Stories, Photo Filters, and even an Interactive Shop.
● While starting as a photo sharing company, Instagram has implemented many
features to help attract more users.
● Instagram is a common platform for many politicians to try and reach a broader
audience.
11. Comparing the Findings
While the apps all contain a photo sharing quality, here are some of the other similarities
they have.
● Snapchat and Instagram share the story feature, which allows users to post a
limited time post and eventually disappears.
● Pinterest and Instagram share many similar features, including a permanent profile
feed, market places, and varied amounts of content.
● All of the apps maintain photo sharing as the main purpose of the app, ensuring
that it is the first thing you see when you open the apps.
● Snapchat and Instagram both collaborate with other media outlets to enhance the
features found on their platform.
12. Comparing the Findings Continued
● Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest all have personalization tools to help customize
your experience on the apps. This includes dark settings, editing tools for images,
video editing, blocking other accounts, and many more features!
● Snapchat and Instagram maintain a heavy focus on entertainment, however, this
has manifested in different ways across the platforms.
13. Contrasting the Findings
While the apps share a lot of features, let’s explore what sets them apart.
● Snapchat is the most casual of the apps, often being used as a direct messaging or
direct photo sharing app.
● Instagram has the widest variety of features on its app. This comes from Instagram
being owned by a large company with many resources to invest.
● Pinterest is the most creative of the apps explored, having content to cover almost
any topic one can think of. It also has the most unique media feed.
● Instagram remains one of the biggest political tools of today’s world, only trailing
to a website funded and ran by a campaign.
14. Conclusions
After researching and comparing the three selected apps, these are my findings:
● Snapchat is my official recommendation after completing this research.
● Snapchat maintains its focus on photo sharing while still progressing its
technology.
● Snapchat allows close interactions between two different profiles without much
risk of publicity.
● Snapchat is the most casual of all of the apps I researched, making it highly
accessible, entertaining, and easy to walk away from.
15. The End
Overall, my research has shown me that most apps in today's day and age
many apps cover a wide variety of functions. This means photo sharing, creative outlets,
political advocacy, online shopping, limited time posting, and many other features I did
not have the time to mention or research.
Through this netted approach apps can stay mainstream while maintaining
loyal to their original mission.
