Topic: Type of Footing
Course Title: Design of concrete Structures-II
Course Code: CE 323
2. IsolatedFooting
It is circular, square or rectangular slab of uniform thickness. Sometimes, it
is stepped to spread the load over a larger area. When footing is provided to
support an individual column, it is called “isolated footing”. Isolated Footing.
3. Mat foundations. A mat foundation, sometimes called a raft
foundation, looks like it sounds. It is a “mat” of concrete that sits on
or just below the ground; in other words, a shallow foundation. You
may have heard it referred to as a slab foundation, a common
choice for steel buildings

4. Combined
A strap footing is a component of a building's
foundation. It is a type of combined footing,
consisting of two or more column footings connected
by a concrete beam.
5. Pile foundation systems. Foundations relying on driven piles often
have groups of piles connected by a pile cap (a large concrete block
into which the heads of the piles are embedded) to distribute loads
which are larger than one pile can bear
PILE FOUNDATION
6. Cantilever footing
A footing used to carry a load from two columns, with one
column and one end of the footing placed against a building
line or exterior wall.
7. Floating foundation
Definition of floating foundation. a building
support on soft soil that consists of a stiff
reinforced concrete slab which distributes
the concentrated loads by columns to the
soil so that the pressure intensity on the soil
is nowhere more than the acceptable
amount.
