• Indianapolis unemployment rose to 4.6 percent, according to the most
recent estimates available from the BLS, which is 30 basis points
lower than the national rate. The state’s unemployment rate is also 4.6
percent, a slight increase from last month. Additionally, Indianapolis
job growth continues to be above the national growth rate.
• Despite this increase in unemployment, the majority of industry
supersectors still had job growth compared to this time last year.
Notably, Professional & Business Services showed year-over-year
growth after having two months of loss. Trade, Transportation &
Utilities continues to be strong in Indianapolis, posting the greatest 12-
month job growth of the supersectors for its fourth consecutive month.
• National unemployment was steady at 4.9 percent in February and
below 5.0 percent for the second month since before the recession.
After a slow January, February returned back to normal levels of
growth with 242,000 net new jobs.
