Number of jobs
• According to the most recent estimates available from the BLS, the
Indianapolis unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.2%. However, the
increase is largely due to a growing labor force, which had greater
gains than total employment for the past two months.
• Total non-farm employment for the city posted a record high for the
second consecutive month. Industry supersectors Trade,
Transportation, & Utilities and Professional & Business Services made
large gains and once again had record-breaking employment levels.
Other Services and Government also grew over the past month.
• 2015 ended on a very high note for the country, with December gaining
292,000 net new jobs and revisions in October and November resulting
in a three-month increase of 851,000 jobs. Overall, the U.S. labor
market grew by nearly 2.7 million jobs over the course of 2015, down
somewhat from the 3.1 million recorded in 2014 due to a moderate
pause during the summer.
