Unit G324: Advanced Portfolio in Media
Locations
1. Shots from The Grizzly Bear Sunbury on Thames Green Street:
The grizzly bear is our prime pub location; we chose this as our main setting for
the story because it’s a corner pub, which ties in with the soap name. The Grizzly
bear is also situated next to a long road, which will be good for filming Brenda’s
dramatic approach to the pub before the shooting. We chose to use a pub for the
main scenes because they are considered a social place and most people enjoy a
“drink or two” there and so it means Brenda’s actions will be clearly defined in
our soap operas community. The pub also has a back entranced which can be
used for our final scenes as Liam walks in to see what Brenda has done which is
useful for our filming.
Conventionally, pubs are a typical location in British Soap Operas such as
Eastenders or Coronation Street. It is the place in which the characters celebrate
significant events, for example weddings, the birth of a child and birthdays and
also socialize on less eventful days.
This is a side view of the
pub, which displays its logo
This is a front view of the pub
showing its main entrance
This shows the main road next to
the pub, which will be used for
filming Brenda’s arrival
This is the back entrance of the pub,
which will be used to film Liam’s
entrance as Brenda shoots the gun
2. 2. Shots from The Hare & Hound Sunbury on Thames Vicarage Road:
The Hare & Hound is another popular pub in Sunbury. It is a possible option for
filming inside and out for our trailer. Once again it is also on a corner, which
helps to reiterate the soaps name. It has a spacious inside, which will make
filming easier, and it also has a beer garden, which may be good if we wish to do
some outside filming. Similarly to the Grizzly bear it has a back entrance, which
is need for a few of our final scenes. It also has a grand entrance, which makes
filming the entering scene a viable option here. We chose this as our second
option because it is close by to an area that we can use for road filming which
will save time moving destinations, the beer garden allows for us to add a
potential outside scene to give our filming more variety and improve our overall
filming experience.
This is the front entrance of
the Hare & Hound, which is
very grand making it
attractive for our filming as
Brenda enters
This is the beer garden of the
Hare & Hound, which is useful
if we need to film outside of
the pub
This is the side view of the
pub next to its main road,
another good location we can
film for Brenda’s approach
This shows the entrance to their
beer garden, which is nice and
open, which will help with
filming.
This shows the side view of the
pub from the car park, this view
may be good for an opening or
closing shot in our trailer
3. 3. Shots from The Three Horseshoes Feltham High Street:
The Three Horseshoes is another viable pub for filming. It has a large open space
inside making filming a possibility, however we are unsure if it has a back
entrance, which is needed. It has a large entrance door, which can be useful for
the establishing shot as Brenda enters the pub. We chose this as our last resort
pub because it isn’t as easily accessible for filming and it has less desirable
features for filming due to the lack of a beer garden and most likely no second
entrance, which is needed for our filming.
This image shows an outside view
of the pub an explains its large
space in and out, the more room
we have the better our filming is
likely to be so this pub is a
potential location for us if we
have problems using our other
locations
This image shows the large
car park, which could be
useful for filming Brenda’s
approach with the use of
cars or vehicles
This shows the pubs grand
entrance, which will provide a
dramatic effect as we film
Brenda’s entrance
4. 4. Shots from Sunbury Cross:
Sunbury Cross is a busy local area to our school, which has many destinations,
which we could use for filming. Its sub-urban look and feel relates well to our
trailer and the working class “kitchen sink” we are trying to show in the trailer. If
it needs to be used there are many option around it, which would make good
filming scenarios and so if we cannot use certain locations we will use this as a
back up location.
This image shows the subway at
Sunbury cross its graffiti covered
walls provide a gritty and working
class look which could be used in
our filming to emphasis the
working class attitude we are
trying to portray
This image shows the sign of
Sunbury cross shopping
Centre, which is a busy area in
Sunbury. Its sub-urban
atmosphere would work well
for Brenda’s long approach to
the pub
This image shows the sign of
some of the more specific
graffiti in the subway, which
shows the 235 a local bus. This
gives viewers a way to relate to
the trailer as it is portrayed in
their local area.
5. 5. Shots from Local Sunbury Roads:
The local area around Sunbury has diversity from more modern and expensive
housing to more gritty and urban housing providing a good contrast and a small
class divide which would be good to show in our trailer as we are trying to focus
on more working class “kitchen sink” feel so that viewers can relate to our
trailer. The photos below show this contrast and also potential filming locations.
The photos show some juxtaposition between the styles of lives people live here
in Sunbury, they do not show exact filming locations but more a range of variety
in the area which we may implement into our filming of the local area for our
trailer because it adds a real life issue which viewers can relate to.
This road of more modern
houses can be used as a
filming location on Brenda’s
journey to the pub and could
be used as a focus to sow
class divide and the contrast
between different areas of
Sunbury
This road of older buildings
from a more gritty part of
Sunbury is useful to show the
contrast in parts of Sunbury
and if used correctly in the
trailer can portray the
differences in how people are
from the two areas and what
kind of life they lead
This alley way is hard to
show is another potential
location for filming Liam as he
runs to Brenda to stop her
before it is too late.
These three images show a group of alley ways and garages which all can be used a filming locations
for Liam’s running to stop Brenda committing her crime, the variation in how they look will hopefully
be used to show that Liam has traveled a large amount of land to try and stop Brenda.
