New – Fuel station for government vehicles temporarily closed
The fuel station for government vehicles located at Transportation Motor Pool on
the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be temporarily closed beginning Sept. 29 at 5
p.m. and will re-open Oct. 1 at 5:30 a.m. This temporary closure is in support of end of
fiscal year inventory. Customers needing to refuel government vehicles during this time
are able to use the AAFES fueling stations or local gas stations using their government

New – Temporary energy reduction request for Sept. 16
In support of Energy Curtailment Specialists, the Joint Base Myer-Henderson
Hall community has been asked to help with a voluntary energy reduction Tuesday,
Sept. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. During this time, the community is asked to voluntarily reduce
energy usage where possible. This temporarily reduction is in support of the total North

Effective Oct. 1, Military Personnel Division will be closed the first Wednesday of
every month from 8 to 11:30 a.m. for training.

AOWCGWA to host new member sign-up
The Army Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area is hosting a new member

3. Fall Education & Career Fair Scheduled
Mark your calendar for the MCCS Henderson Hall Fall Education & Career Fair,
scheduled Thursday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium.
Local, national, and international educators and employers will be present to meet with
prospective students and employees, and career experts will be on site providing free
resume review. An interactive mobile classroom will be parked outside the venue, and

Play morning
Play Morning is scheduled for Sept. 17 and 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Virginia
Highlands Park, 1600 South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA 22202.
This playgroup is for parents and preschool children to provide time for play, physical
activity and socialization for parents. The group will meet at playground # 1, by the restrooms,

Participants will be given information on the basics of identifying stressors in their life

Play, Learn, Grow: Fire & Car Safety

5. EFMP yoga therapy
Exceptional Family Member Program yoga therapy for children with special
needs is scheduled for Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Terry L. Smith Gym. The
class is open to children ages 12-18 years old and is free and open to DOD ID card

Anger Management
Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions management,
specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and receive resources on how to

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your new baby
arrives. A brief overview of the labor and delivery process, newborn care, and baby proofing
your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bag of free baby care and safety items.

Stranger Danger self defense class
This class is designed to teach your children, ages 3-18, about the dangers of
strangers and provide them with techniques and skills that increase their awareness
and safety. The class will cover basic age appropriate escape tactics, as well as
specialized training for older children focused on driving safety plans and cell phone
distractions. Parents are encouraged to attend and learn a few techniques alongside
their children. The class will be held Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Terry L.
Smith Gym on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base.
VA Claims Assistance
Thinking of filing a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs? A National
Service Officer from American Veterans (AMVETS) will be in Bldg. 29’s Career
Resource Management Center on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall Sept. 18 by appointment only 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please bring your
service medical records, private physician’s records, DD Form 214, marriage certificate,
children’s birth certificates, and copies of your dependents’ social security cards. The
National Service Officer will consult with you about the condition for which you are

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening,
6. prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services.
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

New – Parking reserved in Tri-Services parking lot Sept. 16
Parking spaces in the Tri-Services parking lot will be reserved in front of Brucker Hall on the
Fort Myer portion of the joint base Sept. 16 at 9 p.m. in support of the Hispanic American Heritage
event held Sept. 17 in Brucker Hall.
Traffic delays Sept. 16 on Fort McNair portion of JBM-HH
The community on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall may
experience some traffic delays Sept. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon due to a 5K run/ 1.5 mile walk. The
race is hosted by Naval Sea Systems Command and will start and finish near the fitness center.
The upper parking lot of the Fort McNair Fitness Center will be closed during this time in
support of the run.
