1. WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
By Ivan Little
2. The conventions I have used
There are many conventions
that I have implemented into my
piece that show and represent a
drama genre film. The main
target of drama’s are to evoke
emotion from the audience and
to get them to feel something for
the actors or the situation
involved.
I feel I have done this is my film
as we can clearly see sympathy
is being shown to Will, the main
character, who is struggling at
home and has parents fighting
all the time. This pathos that is
put on Will is the main
convention that links with real
life media products such as
Forest Gump, where we have
sympathy for the main
protagonist played by Tom

4. Cliffhanger
Another convention following real life
media products in the drama genre
would be the fact that I have a
cliffhanger at the end of the piece just
before it cuts away. This is often used
in real life in movies such as Children
of men where we end up having a lot
of questions unanswered at the end of
the opening sequence. That is a typical
convention of Drama and I think I’ve
used it well in my piece as at the end
of the call, where Will gets the manic
ring from his mum just before it cuts off
for the end.
5. Lastly, in my film we see the journey taken by a young, working class boy which fits in
well with the conventions of real life media products as it follows the journey of
someone and sees what they go through and what happens to them over a period of
time. You can see this same structure in films such as Kingsman which follows a
working class boy throughout the film almost in the perspective of him which is similar
to mine.
