2. For the research we did into media genres we looked at many
films and decided which films we could relate to. We then
thought about what film we could portray and use the largest
variety of camera shots sound and editing. We found out what
genres would then best fit all of the techniques we wanted to
incorporate into our film. Upon all of this we decided to go with
a psychological thriller. This changed our original idea of a
supernatural thriller as we thought it would need a lot more
time and effort and that it wouldn’t benefit our grade as much
as if we did the psychological thriller. So from this I believe that
our research into thriller genres affected our film in a huge
way.
3. I would say that we have followed some media conventions but also we
have slightly tweaked some others to make them slightly more unique. We
have followed some of the conventions associated with the psychological
thriller genre we chose to do. For example we gradually reviled the
identity of the character “Rae” at the beginning of the film to create a
sense of suspense. We also followed the convention of the style and feel of
the music incorporating a little change in tone as the film progressed and
crescendos and diminuendos at specific points in the film to create
suspense. The part where I would say that we have slightly altered
conventions is the fact that the main character that is being bullied is
female. In a lot of psychological thrillers the main protagonist is a male.
We have done this because bullying is well known amongst boys but is not
always recognised in females, because of this reason we chose to go with
a female role.
4. We do not fully follow the narrative theory I would have thought
because in the narrative theory at the beginning there is
equilibrium. However in our film it starts straight in at there being
a problem and she understands this. Our film opening never
progresses out of this stage due to it only being the opening and
there isn’t enough time to evolve the situation but if we did there
would be an evolution onto resolving the problem but we may not go
back to equilibrium to add a sense of drama and personnel thought
to the end of the film.
