2. My Idea
My advert is going to be about jeans. But instead of a standard set of jeans,
these type of jeans are going to be more flexible, more comfortable and also
more sustainable than any other type of jean on the market.
The target audience for this product is going to be aimed at both males an
females. It will also be aimed at mostly the younger generation since they
more up to date with most recent trends and styles.
3. Primary Research
For this piece of primary research I
conducted a focus group based on
my original three advert ideas. First
I told the group about my idea and
what it was about, I then asked
them what they liked about each
idea and what they would improve
or change. I did this so that I could
receive other people’s opinions
since they are the ones I will be
selling the product too. From
doing this focus group and from the feedback I received, I found that having a celeb
representative in the advert or if I mention that a certain role model uses this product, it
would attract them to buy it more than if there was no celebrity in the advert.
4. For this piece of primary research I decided to conduct an observation based on my chosen
topic which was ‘Jeans’. There were three questions which I wanted answered: ‘What style of
jeans are they wearing?’, ‘What colour jeans are they wearing?’ and lastly if they are male or
female and if they are wearing jeans or not. From the results I received, I found out that both
males and females equally wear jeans and it is not one gender which dominates. I also found
out that most jean wearers wear skinny jeans in the colour blue or black. I took these results
and decided to adjust my advert to suit the outcome, Therefore in the video there will now be
black skinny jeans which are being promoted to both male and females.
5. Secondary Research
For this piece of secondary research I
decided to analyze an advert based on the
same type of genre as my idea. In this, I
talk about certain persuasive techniques
which were used in the advert and
why/what they used them for.
From this research I found out that
companies using certain persuasive
techniques for their adverts makes their
advert look appeal to the audience. I have
took notice of this, so when I come to
create my own advert I am going to use
the technique know as ‘claims’ just like
form the advert I analyzed. I will use this to
try and gain a larger audience and to try
and persuade them to purchase the
product.
6. Qualitative Research
The next bit of research I did was qualitative
research. In the questionnaire I conducted, I
included two open questions so that I could
gain some more detailed and precise
feedback on my specific product. These
questions were ‘What do you like about
wearing jeans?’ and ‘In what way would you
like to improve/change about a standard pair
of jeans?’. As you can see from the answers to
my first question, many people actually wear
jeans because they are considered stylish.
This helps my claim to making an advert for a new pair of jeans because they are currently
quite popular in the younger generations dress sense. This is good for me because it means
my product genre is not outdated but is actually very well received in the fashion industry at
the current time. Another reason people like jeans is because they are comfy to wear. This
helps my product idea/advert because my jeans are supposed to the comfiest on the current
market, therefore I can interpret this into my advert by using the advertising technique known
as ‘claims’. This will gain the audiences attention and will make them more likely to purchase
my product to see if what they heard is in fact true.
7. As you can see from the second question I
asked, there are numerous responses which
mention different things which people would
like to see changed or improved about jeans.
Some of the responses I would like to speak
about is ‘different types of jeans’ and
‘different colours’. These are two
improvements which I have taken on board
and will be making for my product. Many
companies mainly focus on skinny jeans,
although there is still a large market around
other type of jeans, such as boot cut and slim
fit. These will still have the exact same qualities of what the skinny jean will have, such as:
flexibility and the great comfort of the product. I have done this so that I can appeal to a huge
audience compared to what I would have been aiming at. This is more or less the same with
the ‘different colours’ response. A lot of companies seem to focus on mostly black jeans or navy
coloured jeans, whereas I will be branching out to many different colours so that the audience
are not limited to what colour or type of jean they want.
Qualitative Research #2
8. Quantitative Research
I also conducted quantitative research for
my Idea, so that I had a much wider range
of data to support my advert creation. The
following images show two closed
questions I asked to the public, ‘How old
are you?’, and ‘Do you wear Jeans?’. These
required closed responses which made it
easier for me to collect all of the data to
analyze. The data I received from both
questions help my claim to produce an advert based on jeans. This is because there is a very
large audience based around fashion. As you can see form the responses, 90% of all the
respondents were aged between 10-19, this shows me that fashion is very much dependent on
the younger generation, mainly
teenagers. I also found out that 80%
of people I asked wore jeans, which is
a incredibly high percentage,
especially from a marketing
standpoint.
9. Audience Research
The last bit of research I conducted was
‘Audience Research’. I conducted this
type of research so that I could get a
better understanding of what my ideal
target audience should be. Once again I
am using the question, 'How old are
you?’, as an example. This is because,
based on the answers I receive could
potentially tell me the exact age range
in which I should be aiming my jeans
towards. As you can see from the
results, the vast majority of people
were in fact in the age range of 10-19. I
also asked them ‘If yes (they wear
jeans), how many times a week do they
wear jeans?’ From the results I
received, I can say that more than three
quarters of the 10-19 year olds I asked,
said they wore jeans for at least 4 days a
week. This is a good outcome for my
research because this tells me that jeans are considered very stylish at the current time,
therefore I can take advantage of this and directly aim my advert at the younger generation.
10. Summary
From gathering all of my data, I have taken all of it into account and have made certain
adjustments to my promotion of the product carefully.
My product are a new brand of ‘Jeans’, and I have decided to aim my advert at the
younger audiences, preferably around 10-21, I have chosen this age range due to the
high demand in fashion coming from tis generation. I also chose to aim my advert at
working class citizens because most likely all of these people will not have full time
jobs but will be living with their parents therefore wont have a great income.
Lastly, My advert is going to be about a man who is trying to speak to a girl in a
flirtatious way, although the girl in fact actually has a boyfriend. Not long after the
boyfriend walks in on the other boy talking to his girlfriend and starts to shout and
chase him, although he can’t keep up to the the fact he isn’t wearing the brand new
special pair of jeans.
