2. SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
"Sustainable tourism is the concept of visiting a place
as a tourist and trying to make only a positive impact
on the environment, society and economy.“
Tourism can involve:
Primary transportation to the general location, local
transportation, accommodations, entertainment,
recreation, nourishment and shopping. It can be
related to travel for leisure, business and what is called
VFR (visiting friends and relatives).
There is now broad consensus that tourism
development should be sustainable; however, the
question of how to achieve this remains an object of
debate.
3. MEXICO TOURISM
With more than 45 million acres of surface kept in ecological reserves
plus one of the richest natural offerings on our planet, Mexico can
proudly say it´s made sustainable tourism a priority. Civil and non-
government associations, as well as educational and training
institutions, have made ecotourism their motive for work.
The rich natural resources, privileged geographic location and
biodiversity make Mexico an excellent territory to explore. Visitors can
take in the unique landscape and indigenous flora and fauna, while
the different topographies of Mexico lend to different adventures. Visit
Mexico and discover all the opportunities to make your trips
sustainable.
4. GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS
The SEMARNAT (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Secretaria
de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales) is the Federal Government
agency in charge of driving the protection, restoration and conservation
of ecosystems and natural resources, as well as environmental goods and
services in Mexico, with the aim of fostering their use and sustainable
development.
The Semarnat promotes awareness about the environmental problematic,
fosters participation and widely communicates strategies, actions and the
main results of the Federal Government in facing this global challenge.
