• Study by Mind found that people believe journalists have
more influence over public attitudes towards mental health
than politicians do
• Negative portrayals of mental health in the media can often
lead to negative attitudes towards mental health
• Mind’s research shows that the more mental health is
reported about in the media the more people talk about it
in their every day lives
• The Mind Media Awards celebrates various forms of media
including audio, visual, and written, that encourages a
positive outlook of mental health and aims to educate its
audience on mental health and how mental health can be
improved.

4. Criteria
• Content must have been broadcasted or published in the UK or have been
available from June 2019 to June 2019
• Content should be relevant to mental health and challenge the perception of
mental health
• Content should be responsibly produced and safe for the intended audience
• It must give a voice to people with mental health problems and include at
least one first hand testimony
