Surprisingly India's favourite sport and the emerging fetish with social media tools share quite a few common traits! In this slide deck find out how a game of cricket can teach some valuable lessons to ace the game of social media marketing!
2. Motion of the ball and motion of the audience
sentiments should be keenly watched
Last year when I played for the first time, I always missed the ball while batting, this year was
better and I could hit the ball and save the wicket. The only strategy I followed was to keenly
observe where the ball was going. Even for marketing, it is imperative to study how the target
audience is evolving. Only then can you align your marketing strategies in sync with their
sentiments and usage patterns. Following age old methods in an ever-changing market leads to
under performance and yields poor or no results.
3. Both the captain and the team has to put in efforts and
Work genuinely!
During the match we also observed an interesting trend that was happening.
The captain pointed it out for us. He said – ‘I cannot alone score this many runs in every over. I
need your support’ Unknowingly, we were depending on the
best-performing player which was unfair and detrimental for us to win.
Similarly for any marketing activity to be a success, the team as well as the manager has to
perform their own list of tasks diligently only then can the deadlines be met and the envisioned
results be achieved!
4. Watch and learn from your competitors
Learning by observing an example is quick and smart. There were girls in other teams who were
much better than me. Their throw was perfect and confidence was amazing. Unlike last year, this
year I made it a point to not do other things while not playing but to watch them implement their
strategies or learn from their mistakes and it helped me gain some perspective!
When it comes to marketing, the rule still applies. Regular monitoring is a task that can’t be missed
by social media marketing managers.
5. Every requirement communicated to you is the ball from the opponents team
& the marketing strategy that you come up with is the way you bat!
It could be a Yorker or a bouncer, whether you score a six or are going to be clean bowled,
depends on a number of factors. ;)
A careful analysis of which social media platform to choose and what kind of content to include are
crucial factors for the success of any marketing campaign. Some objectives will require complex
campaigns while others will have a comparatively simpler approach.
6. Wides a Aplenty, Chances of Winning Scanty!
Delivery of 3 out of 6 balls by me were wide which means we gave away 9 runs in less than an
over for nothing! It was painful!
Wrong keywords are the wides in the world of digital marketing. Add a budget of thousands
perhaps lakhs to this and you’ve successfully wasted a fortune by reaching no relevant audience!
Using the right set of keywords is a no-brainer. A proper research is required for the same and
constant testing is a mandate if you want to ace the entire digital marketing game!
7. May you always have a crowd to cheer you on
before it’s time to go back to the pavilion! ;)
