Essay On City Planners
Those moving from big cities to smaller cities like College Station could have trouble adjusting to the lifestyle and surrounding environment at first.
Since College Station and Bryan cities are mainly the second home to thousands of college students, therefore, city planners did not focus much on the
entertainment aspect for the people that live here. The main entertainment that college students would be able to enjoy around here is going to the
cinema during the weekends. Unlike small, growing cities like College Station and Bryan, big cities like Austin, Dallas and Houston are often act as
magnets that attract many businesses to come to the city. The reason that businesses show up to big cities was because they know for sure that their

After observing and collecting the demographic data using U.S. Census, we then compared the data to the city of Austin's demographic data. By
comparing the City of College Station and Bryan to the city of Austin, urban planners would be able to determine whether Dave and Buster's would be
successful if they open a new location here. The reason that Austin was used as the standard measurement was because there is a Dave and Buster's in
Austin that is successfully attract people from a variety range of age.
First, we looked at the areas' population. Based on the U.S. Census collected in 2010, the total population in the city of College Station is 93,857
people and the total population in the city of Bryan is 76,201 people. Compared to Austin, the combined population of both the City of College
Station and the City of Bryan is approximately six times the Austin's population. Based on this factor alone, we could say that the Dave and Buster's
does have the potential of being successful in the areas of College Station and Bryan. However, other factors should be taken in consideration before
making any final decision.
The second factor that we used is the age groups among the cities. Looking at different age groups in the community is critical because businesses are
often provide services to only a certain amount of age groups. For example, it is not appropriate to have an amusement park in a community where the

My "Perfect" City
I. Utilities
The city I propose as a perfect city, would be as close to an ecocity as possible, although have some differences. For example, for electrical needs, I
would suggest the city have a solar power plant, but on those desperate times, energy would be bought from other electrical plants from nearby towns
or states.
Water purification and a wastewater treatment plants would be necessary in order to provide the citizens and visitors with clean healthy water. To
prevent flooding, this city was built on flood plains.

Paddleboats would be popular in the lakes and river. Walking and biking would be the most influenced form of transportation. Neighborhood stores
would be encouraged, promoting bike and walk transportation. No mass transportation systems will be found running through the city.
III. Density of Homes
Understandably, some people enjoy large lawns. For every 1 home that is built on an acre property, 2 homes have to be built on ВЅ acre property. The
homes will be built more northern and away from the river. Towards the southern part of the river will only be green space and nature preserves. The
city will have a medium density
IV. Businesses/Industry/Commercial
Tourism will be the major money catcher on the lake and riverside areas. Tourists will be attracted to the city's beauty and fun activities (see
aesthetics). Although tourism brings in a lot of money, small animal and vegetable farms will be maintained, providing the city with some of its food
portion. Gardens will also be kept at most of the homes. Not much food will be transported into the city. The city will try to be the most independent
possible. Building will use the solar heat method for water and space heating on those rare occasions when necessary.

Descriptive Essay On The City
One weekend night I had the craving for some boneless wings and chili cheese fries. I don't drive and no one on campus could drive me so I decided to
walk somewhere to get food. So, I put on my shoes and headed out of the dorms to satisfy my craving for chili cheese fries and buffalo wings. The
only place that was open was one of the few restaurants on campus, The SandBar. It's the one of the few places on campus you get good food at a
decent price, get a laid–back atmosphere, eat late, and can walk to wherever you are on campus.
The Sandbar is located quietly at the university building known as the Cove which also house two other places to get food, Sushic and Moe's
Southwestern Grill. The building is right across from the Education Building and is a five to ten–minute walk away from the dorm halls and the
apartments on campus. Every day the Sandbar is open from 12 pm in the afternoon to 6am in the mornings. Awesome for those late–night cravings for
fries for some buffalo wings. There's a huge parking lot on the right side of the building for students for faulty to park. In front of the cozy little
building, there are silver colored tables scattered around a rectangular fountain. The clear blue water looks so pretty in the daytime when the fountains
are on. Inside the building is a simplified jazz house with a stage that has a grand piano right in the center where they have live jazz performances
every so often. Tables fill in the empty space between the stage and counter for the bar–like area. TV's hover over the counter and are always playing
either sports or something that the staff thought was a good thing to watch. The atmosphere is so relaxing and comfortable since it caters mostly to
college students and their faulty. Costumer conversations fill the air about whatever is on their minds while waiting to order their food. The ordering
system is quite cool and can be efficient. They use iPads with their POS system for the business uploaded and customers can select want they want, the
table number they want, and whether the meal is to–go or not. It's a fast ordering system and the food is out in no time.
When the food does come out though it is very good. The menu choices are very limited but what they

You can grow vegetables and fruits in your backyard and not worry about pollution to spoil your food. In some cities, the pollution is so bad that it
can form dangerous smog that make breathing difficult and contain hazardous air pollutants. The looks and architecture of a city is different than
countryside. Cities are full of cemented buildings and everything is clustered. That means that there is less space for everything. In countryside, there
are fewer infrastructures so there is space everywhere. The houses are so big and they don't come with a garden, you get a land with it. It's less
populated in countryside but it is calm, less noisy and you are near natural environments. That means it's greener and full of trees and various animals
compared to the gray look of cities that houses tons of squirrels. п»їCity and Countryside Living in a city is a completely different experience than

The Concept Of A Smart City Essay
The concept of a "Smart City" has been fashionable in recent years. Cities have claimed to be smart, based on their use of information and
communication technology (ICT) for marketing purposes and to make it attractive to skilled labour. For a city to be smart, it has to be based on
something more than ICT (Allwinkle & Cruickshank, 2011). While there are a variety of definitions for a smartcity, the key concept of a "Smart City"
relates to the use of ICT infrastructure as a means to enable social, environmental, economic and cultural developments (Allwinkle & Cruickshank,
2011).
Ensuring livable conditions within the rapid urban population growth requires an understanding of the "Smart City" concept (Nam, et al., 2012).
Several definitions have been put forward. However, there are two widely popular definitions in the urban planning literature suggested by Giffinger
and Nam and Pardo.
According to Nam and Pardo (2011), the smart city should be regarded as a combination of three dimension: Technology which is based in the use of
ICT infrastructure to improve life within a city; People which is based on education, learning and knowledge, because well educated people strengthen
human infrastructure and collective decision making; and Institutions which is based on governance, policy and cooperation between stakeholders.
Scholar Rudolf Giffinger from the Vienna University of Technology identified the operation of at least six dimensions in a smart city. These dimensions

Descriptive Essay About A Beautiful City
Imagine yourself coming to a city you have never been to for a vacation. You have just gotten a leave from your job and you are expecting a relaxing
vacation without any hassles. After a long flight, you reach your final destination, Pearadex, California. You walk out of the airport into a huge,
beautiful city full of gigantic skyscrapers that is the home of the city's tech industry. As you walk into the downtown area, you see a beautiful fountain
with water gushing out in all directions making its way through the city using a median of streams which resemble a microchip when looked from
above. Little kids are playing in the stream splashing around while the senior citizens sit on pear–shaped benches watching the young children with
glee. Hover cars make their way as they gently glide on top of the river and the streets lining them and guide their passengers home with the low
sound of hover cars powered by compressed gases. Paddle boats and tour gondolas glide across the water gently as their occupants heartily talk
and laugh. Suddenly a bell rings out of nowhere and you are alarmed as you do not know what is going on. You breathe a sigh of relief as you see
kids of all ages flock out of school in the thousands and hear their screams of joy as you walk past. They all dash to Crystal Lake to escape the heat.
The clear water with a hint of blue is full of ripples going off in all directions from the boats and canoes. The familiar smell of freshly cut grass
from the field in Birchland Park enters your nose. You are home! You finally attain your peace and quietness. The neighborhood is very quiet
allowing you to take a peaceful nap and dream about the wonderful sights you will see and the things you will do in this wonderful city tomorrow.
Pearadex city has surpassed all levels expected from the public and is the future generation of cities. It is located in Northern California, United
States of America, and has had quite a big history considering that it was founded on June 19, 1984. Even though this city looks and seems like it
has had a steady and easy going past it has had its fair share of problems. But learning from our mistakes, we have made our city the magnificent city

Short Essay On A Day In The City
London awoke on Sunday to the sound of car horns and sirens. Every day in London traffic always blared up to her in her flat. She glanced at her
clock and it read 7:56 a.m. She got up out of bed and walked over to her kitchen to make a cup of Earl Grey tea. After the teapot made it's classic
"Hissssss" of being done, she poured the water into her London Metropolitan Police mug, her weekly job. She added in the bag of tea, and she then
made her way to her balcony to look over the bustling city. It was bright and clear day, and with being on the 30th floor of her apartment tower, she
saw a lot of the historical city. Not too far off in the distance was the Olympic Park. London admired the park, she liked the smell of grass, and she

this she smiled, she loved London derbies for the excitement and electric atmosphere they brought with them. Facing off against a local team

Persepolis House Essay
Ancient Near East has always been one of the major themes studied within Western Art. Many impressive constructions characterize this culture:
temples, gates, palaces and sculptures pieces. Architecture and the development of large cities, such as Persepolis Palace, is a widely interesting
matter. This type of design provides the essential information on who build it, why it was build, for whom and what it signifies to the people; it offers
information of the communities ' thoughts, beliefs and form of living. It was around 520 BCE when Darius I began the construction of the ambitious
Persepolis Palace, covering a 125.000 square–meter. The construction of this, located in the Plateau of the Zagros lands or Fars Providence, Iran, made
the workers acknowledge many international styles. To the people, it was a constant reminder of an entrance of all people. While grey limestone was
the main material used, other supplies found around the whole empire also helped with the construction: cedar coming from Lebanon, yaka wood
coming from Gandhara and Carmania and bricks coming from Babylon. With great material used, the structure came to include courts, halls, and
columns. The Persepolis Palace, constructed by the great Darius I, expresses an internationalist style that establishes the respectable knowledge of a
powerful leader who depicted hospitality and the centralization of the nation's government within the palace. By also tracing a historical and cultural

What Makes A City?
What makes a city? There are many thing that makes a city a city and a society a civilization. There are many definitions for civilization and I think
the most correct it that a civilization is an advanced society. Most archaeologists use the term complex societies instead of civilizations. This essay
discusses how complex societies are made up of several characteristics like dense populations, substance base, craft production, monumental
architecture, taxation and some civilizations even had writing. All of these things go hand in hand with each other. This essay will also discusscity
–states and what characteristics they have in common and what they don't have in common. Population density is found in all of the civilizations.

When bureaucrats come in there is a rise in the social elite. The social elite were mostly made up of religious figures, military as well as civil
leaders and of course the bureaucrats. This is where monumental architecture come in. Monumental architecture could be anything. It could be a
religious temple or a palace or even a warehouse. Most monumental architecture was dedicated to someone like a king or a god. When long
distance trade starting to occur and more craft goods being produced, you need a way to keep a record of all the items and trades. The creation of
writing was what helped with this. Writing kept the bureaucrats informed and kept a record of the trades that occurred. (Smiley 2015: Unit 1). All of
these aspects are a part of a civilization and there are many more. Every society of the world was a civilization and every civilization had a city. A
city–state is a part of a civilization but is independent. One example is the civilization Mesopotamia had city–states that were all independent of each
other. City–states share a lot of the same traits like a civilizations but on a smaller scale. There was craft production, a centralized political and
religious bureaucracies and trading. There are other feature that makes up a city–state like a walled city, canals, and outlying villages, farms, fields and
a temple. (Smiley 2015: Unit 2). Two cites come to mind when these features are mentioned Ur and Maskan–shapir. Ur was occupied about 7,000 years

City Vs Country
Living in the City vs. Living in the Country
I grew up in the city and thought I would always be a resident of Winston–Salem, but relocating to the country was probably one of the best decisions I
have ever made. Living in either one of these provides some similar things like a roof over my head and a place to rest. Both locations allow me to
have neighbors and access to public schools and there is a Food Lion and a Sheetz within a few miles from them too. Some things that are perceived
differently and living in the country change these perceptions as opposed to living in the city. Depending on the location a simple door knock, the
sound of gunshots and the sound of sirens can have different implications.
A knock at the door can lead to entirely different people being at your doorstep whether you live in the city or the country. In the city, strangers knocking

need for medical help from an ambulance, and most of the time these sounds are coming from the trucks from the fire department because they are the
first responders out in the country.
There are many similarities between living in the city and living in the country like having neighbors and public schools. They both provide a place
to rest with a roof over your head and places to shop within a few miles. The differences in how specific events are perceived are like opposites

A Beautiful City
In every country, there is a city that attracts people's attentions. It could be a beautiful city or bear a great history displayed in its fascinating
buildings or fabulous museums. Some people could have memories to share with this city. Others could sense that this city is their place to gather
with their lovers and friends. Manhattan, which is known to be one of the most attractive cities in the world, astonishes people in many ways. There
was a noticeable advancement through the last decades. Manhattan can be seen in different ways in the eyes of people, which reflects different
impressions on people. These astonishments show contradictions that make up Manhattan as it is now. In the daily life of Manhattan, the rate of time
is as fast as the speed of light. An explorer walking around the city that never sleeps will discover that this city is constantly moving. People are
running to catch trains, buses, planes, etc. They have no time to sit and have a chat to one another. "Manhattan from sense of sight", John Berger
states that, " Everywhere there is talk...... The talk directly corresponds to what is going on in one's head at the moment.". Clearly, talking is a formal
protection and it protects oneself. Also, it diminishes the space between people. In addition, communication prevents sliding into oblivion. In the play
"The IMAGINARY INVALID" by Moliere, Argan felt that he was lonely and couldn't find love from his surroundings. He develops a

Sustainable Cities : A Sustainable City
Sustainable Cities
A sustainable city is when harmony is reached between the environment, economy and society. Environmentally, sustainable cities are ecologically
friendly by using alternative sources of energy such as solar or wind power. Economically, governments should share a similar decision–making
process with institutions and with the public by having a common belief in what should be done by improving sustainability. Sorensen, Marcotullio,
and Grant (2004), find that a good decision making process consists of planning and control at the municipal and national political levels which
would allow local level functions to become reinforced. Socially, sustainable cities are classless, meaning that there are no social divisions which
serve as limits; leading to a more equal society. One of the many ideas would be using mixed housing to remove the class divisions between people.
Also, city streets would be walkable, with businesses and services located at close proximity to promote a healthier lifestyle and serve as an alternative
to using cars for transportation. The writers differ in their analysis when examining the approaches to improving sustainability in cities. This section
will analyze four important ideas on how cities can become more sustainable. Campbell (1996), argues that it is necessary to focus on three major
points, being the environment, economy and society when planning a sustainable city. He constructs a prism which holds each of these features at a

Descriptive Essay About My City
Our town is more home to us than our actual house. We make so much memories around town, whether it's dining out with the family at a local
restaurant or learning how to ride a bike at our local park to spending our first paycheck at the local mall. Our town is very precious and we often
take for granted, what a privilege it is to live in a place where so much is accessible to us. We often oversee all the little things our town offers like
the stores, the parks, the many street lights that keep our town well lit, and the well paved roads. Today I will discuss the description of my town, the
people that make up my neighborhood, and the perks of living in Orland Park.
Orland Park is a southwest suburb in Illinois. It is a well known town due to it's many fine dining restaurants, shopping centers, and great school
district. Orland Park is a busy town and to fit the needs of the people, the busiest street was just remodeled. Lagrange Road was just remodeled and
widened into a three lane road in each direction. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation website, "The project cost ninety–five million
dollars and took three years to complete." Now there is a brick median in the road that is filled with trees, flowers, and small bushes. On the
southbound side of LaGrange Road there is a walking trail, that is also used as a biking trail. Most of the shopping centers and buildings all have the
same design. The buildings consist of tan colored bricks and long but narrow

There are many differences between living in the city or in a country setting, but the country setting has many more advantages over the city. The air
and water quality and other environment factors are improved in the country setting. The school system is safer and less crowded in a rural setting.
The roads are not loaded with traffic and taxis. The country is safer than the city and crime rates are lower. In the country, there is an abundance of
trees and vegetation. In the country, there are parks and open spaces, and there is a variety of wildlife to observe. Although some of the reasons why
one might choose to live in either place are left to personal preference, there are many factors based solely on facts.

People may also live a greater distance away from family and friends. There may not be many large local events such as concerts or shows hosted in a
country town. The country can have serious effects on people with allergies to pollen and other air borne plant particles. Because there are many trees
and vegetation in the country the pollen count can get very high and can severely affect people with allergies. In the city, there are a few drawbacks
mostly to do with distances and entertainment.
Although living in the city can be fast paced and exciting, there are some disadvantages involved with living there. The environment in the city may
not be as healthy in the city. The air quality is usually reduced due to emissions and the reduced amount of vegetation and trees. City water is often
treated with more chemicals. The rivers if any are more likely to be polluted in the city. The amount of litter on the streets is often higher. There are
fewer trees and parks with not as much open space. There is not very much wildlife present in cities. The schools in cities often have larger classroom
sizes and more students per school. Violence is so common in city schools that many of them need metal detectors and security guards to help protect
children. Schools with more students in urban and city areas have higher violence rates than schools that are more rural. Most people are aware that
the city can be a dangerous place. Crime rates

Research Paper On The City Of Ur
The City of Ur
The dessert is a terrifically uninhabitable place. There is little or no water, there is no vegetation, there is little wildlife, and the wildlife available is
not particularly appetizing. There is no useful wood or stone as building materials, and so to live in the desert is completely dependant on the
importation of all good from far away lands. Why then are cities built in desserts. In my mind these were cities build by people exiled to the desert
with no other possible place to go. However recently I read about a city in the desert named Ur which dates back to the 900bc making it one of the
first cities in the world. The paradox of a city built in the desert as one of the first cities in the world is at face value...show more content...
These rich soil and abundant fresh water conditions provide the necessary foundation for a city to survive in a dessert.
UR was a city that developed because it could. It had the all the necessary conditions to support a city and these conditions came together all at the
right time to produce a city in the desert. However UR was much more than just a city that happened to come together, it is a place which exhibited
extraordinary character and provided an unimaginably high standard of living for its time.
The agriculture surpluses produced from the irrigating techniques of the time were sufficient to support a class of non farmers consisting of merchants,
politicians and religious figures. This separation from the land and the free time associated with this separation allowed some of the people of UR to
focus their energy on things other then sustenance such as structural innovation, creativity in the form of the arts, rudimentary medicine, law and
religion.
One of the most striking aspects of the city is its residential structures. The city of UR was a prehistoric city so there are no written accounts of the
city. All that is known from the city can be determined from archeology. Because the city was violently destroyed and lost, it was relatively
undisturbed for thousands of years until it was rediscovered by archeologists. these conditions made the discovery of such

Essay On City Planners

  • 1. Essay On City Planners Those moving from big cities to smaller cities like College Station could have trouble adjusting to the lifestyle and surrounding environment at first. Since College Station and Bryan cities are mainly the second home to thousands of college students, therefore, city planners did not focus much on the entertainment aspect for the people that live here. The main entertainment that college students would be able to enjoy around here is going to the cinema during the weekends. Unlike small, growing cities like College Station and Bryan, big cities like Austin, Dallas and Houston are often act as magnets that attract many businesses to come to the city. The reason that businesses show up to big cities was because they know for sure that their ...show more content... After observing and collecting the demographic data using U.S. Census, we then compared the data to the city of Austin's demographic data. By comparing the City of College Station and Bryan to the city of Austin, urban planners would be able to determine whether Dave and Buster's would be successful if they open a new location here. The reason that Austin was used as the standard measurement was because there is a Dave and Buster's in Austin that is successfully attract people from a variety range of age. First, we looked at the areas' population. Based on the U.S. Census collected in 2010, the total population in the city of College Station is 93,857 people and the total population in the city of Bryan is 76,201 people. Compared to Austin, the combined population of both the City of College Station and the City of Bryan is approximately six times the Austin's population. Based on this factor alone, we could say that the Dave and Buster's does have the potential of being successful in the areas of College Station and Bryan. However, other factors should be taken in consideration before making any final decision. The second factor that we used is the age groups among the cities. Looking at different age groups in the community is critical because businesses are often provide services to only a certain amount of age groups. For example, it is not appropriate to have an amusement park in a community where the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Perfect City Essay My "Perfect" City I. Utilities The city I propose as a perfect city, would be as close to an ecocity as possible, although have some differences. For example, for electrical needs, I would suggest the city have a solar power plant, but on those desperate times, energy would be bought from other electrical plants from nearby towns or states. Water purification and a wastewater treatment plants would be necessary in order to provide the citizens and visitors with clean healthy water. To prevent flooding, this city was built on flood plains. Solid waste pickup services will exist, preventing litter and garbage...show more content... Paddleboats would be popular in the lakes and river. Walking and biking would be the most influenced form of transportation. Neighborhood stores would be encouraged, promoting bike and walk transportation. No mass transportation systems will be found running through the city. III. Density of Homes Understandably, some people enjoy large lawns. For every 1 home that is built on an acre property, 2 homes have to be built on ВЅ acre property. The homes will be built more northern and away from the river. Towards the southern part of the river will only be green space and nature preserves. The city will have a medium density IV. Businesses/Industry/Commercial Tourism will be the major money catcher on the lake and riverside areas. Tourists will be attracted to the city's beauty and fun activities (see aesthetics). Although tourism brings in a lot of money, small animal and vegetable farms will be maintained, providing the city with some of its food portion. Gardens will also be kept at most of the homes. Not much food will be transported into the city. The city will try to be the most independent possible. Building will use the solar heat method for water and space heating on those rare occasions when necessary.

  • 4. Descriptive Essay On The City One weekend night I had the craving for some boneless wings and chili cheese fries. I don't drive and no one on campus could drive me so I decided to walk somewhere to get food. So, I put on my shoes and headed out of the dorms to satisfy my craving for chili cheese fries and buffalo wings. The only place that was open was one of the few restaurants on campus, The SandBar. It's the one of the few places on campus you get good food at a decent price, get a laid–back atmosphere, eat late, and can walk to wherever you are on campus. The Sandbar is located quietly at the university building known as the Cove which also house two other places to get food, Sushic and Moe's Southwestern Grill. The building is right across from the Education Building and is a five to ten–minute walk away from the dorm halls and the apartments on campus. Every day the Sandbar is open from 12 pm in the afternoon to 6am in the mornings. Awesome for those late–night cravings for fries for some buffalo wings. There's a huge parking lot on the right side of the building for students for faulty to park. In front of the cozy little building, there are silver colored tables scattered around a rectangular fountain. The clear blue water looks so pretty in the daytime when the fountains are on. Inside the building is a simplified jazz house with a stage that has a grand piano right in the center where they have live jazz performances every so often. Tables fill in the empty space between the stage and counter for the bar–like area. TV's hover over the counter and are always playing either sports or something that the staff thought was a good thing to watch. The atmosphere is so relaxing and comfortable since it caters mostly to college students and their faulty. Costumer conversations fill the air about whatever is on their minds while waiting to order their food. The ordering system is quite cool and can be efficient. They use iPads with their POS system for the business uploaded and customers can select want they want, the table number they want, and whether the meal is to–go or not. It's a fast ordering system and the food is out in no time. When the food does come out though it is very good. The menu choices are very limited but what they Get more content on HelpWriting.net

First of all, living in a city is more modern than living in countryside. There are way more transportation services (bus, taxi, metro, tramway etc.) in cities allowing you to access all the services which are most of the time already at your doorstep compared to countryside where everything is isolated and far. You can grow vegetables and fruits in your backyard and not worry about pollution to spoil your food. In some cities, the pollution is so bad that it can form dangerous smog that make breathing difficult and contain hazardous air pollutants. The looks and architecture of a city is different than countryside. Cities are full of cemented buildings and everything is clustered. That means that there is less space for everything. In countryside, there are fewer infrastructures so there is space everywhere. The houses are so big and they don't come with a garden, you get a land with it. It's less populated in countryside but it is calm, less noisy and you are near natural environments. That means it's greener and full of trees and various animals compared to the gray look of cities that houses tons of squirrels. п»їCity and Countryside Living in a city is a completely different experience than living in a rural area. • 6. The Concept Of A Smart City Essay The concept of a "Smart City" has been fashionable in recent years. Cities have claimed to be smart, based on their use of information and communication technology (ICT) for marketing purposes and to make it attractive to skilled labour. For a city to be smart, it has to be based on something more than ICT (Allwinkle & Cruickshank, 2011). While there are a variety of definitions for a smartcity, the key concept of a "Smart City" relates to the use of ICT infrastructure as a means to enable social, environmental, economic and cultural developments (Allwinkle & Cruickshank, 2011). Ensuring livable conditions within the rapid urban population growth requires an understanding of the "Smart City" concept (Nam, et al., 2012). Several definitions have been put forward. However, there are two widely popular definitions in the urban planning literature suggested by Giffinger and Nam and Pardo. According to Nam and Pardo (2011), the smart city should be regarded as a combination of three dimension: Technology which is based in the use of ICT infrastructure to improve life within a city; People which is based on education, learning and knowledge, because well educated people strengthen human infrastructure and collective decision making; and Institutions which is based on governance, policy and cooperation between stakeholders. Scholar Rudolf Giffinger from the Vienna University of Technology identified the operation of at least six dimensions in a smart city. These dimensions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Descriptive Essay About A Beautiful City Imagine yourself coming to a city you have never been to for a vacation. You have just gotten a leave from your job and you are expecting a relaxing vacation without any hassles. After a long flight, you reach your final destination, Pearadex, California. You walk out of the airport into a huge, beautiful city full of gigantic skyscrapers that is the home of the city's tech industry. As you walk into the downtown area, you see a beautiful fountain with water gushing out in all directions making its way through the city using a median of streams which resemble a microchip when looked from above. Little kids are playing in the stream splashing around while the senior citizens sit on pear–shaped benches watching the young children with glee. Hover cars make their way as they gently glide on top of the river and the streets lining them and guide their passengers home with the low sound of hover cars powered by compressed gases. Paddle boats and tour gondolas glide across the water gently as their occupants heartily talk and laugh. Suddenly a bell rings out of nowhere and you are alarmed as you do not know what is going on. You breathe a sigh of relief as you see kids of all ages flock out of school in the thousands and hear their screams of joy as you walk past. They all dash to Crystal Lake to escape the heat. The clear water with a hint of blue is full of ripples going off in all directions from the boats and canoes. The familiar smell of freshly cut grass from the field in Birchland Park enters your nose. You are home! You finally attain your peace and quietness. The neighborhood is very quiet allowing you to take a peaceful nap and dream about the wonderful sights you will see and the things you will do in this wonderful city tomorrow. Pearadex city has surpassed all levels expected from the public and is the future generation of cities. It is located in Northern California, United States of America, and has had quite a big history considering that it was founded on June 19, 1984. Even though this city looks and seems like it has had a steady and easy going past it has had its fair share of problems. • 9. Short Essay On A Day In The City London awoke on Sunday to the sound of car horns and sirens. Every day in London traffic always blared up to her in her flat. She glanced at her clock and it read 7:56 a.m. She got up out of bed and walked over to her kitchen to make a cup of Earl Grey tea. After the teapot made it's classic "Hissssss" of being done, she poured the water into her London Metropolitan Police mug, her weekly job. She added in the bag of tea, and she then made her way to her balcony to look over the bustling city. It was bright and clear day, and with being on the 30th floor of her apartment tower, she saw a lot of the historical city. Not too far off in the distance was the Olympic Park. She flicked on the TV to Sky Sports to discover that the match was set to kick off at 3 p.m. Not only that, she found out that it was against another London club. After realizing this she smiled, she loved London derbies for the excitement and electric atmosphere they brought with them. Facing off against a local team always means sparks are gonna fly. Glancing at the clock and seeing that it was only 10:37 a.m. made her sigh some. She had no clue how she was going to pass the time until kickoff. She flopped on her sofa and flicked through the channels. She settled on watching a few reruns of Downtown Abbey. While watching that she was also playing on her phone checking a news app to catch up on the happenings in the quite nearby Parliament. After killing a couple hours with reruns and boring news she realized at 12:46 p.m. she had not at anything ate anything at all that day. • 10. Persepolis House Essay Ancient Near East has always been one of the major themes studied within Western Art. Many impressive constructions characterize this culture: temples, gates, palaces and sculptures pieces. Architecture and the development of large cities, such as Persepolis Palace, is a widely interesting matter. This type of design provides the essential information on who build it, why it was build, for whom and what it signifies to the people; it offers information of the communities ' thoughts, beliefs and form of living. It was around 520 BCE when Darius I began the construction of the ambitious Persepolis Palace, covering a 125.000 square–meter. The construction of this, located in the Plateau of the Zagros lands or Fars Providence, Iran, made the workers acknowledge many international styles. To the people, it was a constant reminder of an entrance of all people. While grey limestone was the main material used, other supplies found around the whole empire also helped with the construction: cedar coming from Lebanon, yaka wood coming from Gandhara and Carmania and bricks coming from Babylon. With great material used, the structure came to include courts, halls, and columns. The Persepolis Palace, constructed by the great Darius I, expresses an internationalist style that establishes the respectable knowledge of a powerful leader who depicted hospitality and the centralization of the nation's government within the palace. • 11. What Makes A City? What makes a city? There are many thing that makes a city a city and a society a civilization. There are many definitions for civilization and I think the most correct it that a civilization is an advanced society. Most archaeologists use the term complex societies instead of civilizations. This essay discusses how complex societies are made up of several characteristics like dense populations, substance base, craft production, monumental architecture, taxation and some civilizations even had writing. All of these things go hand in hand with each other. This essay will also discusscity –states and what characteristics they have in common and what they don't have in common. Population density is found in all of the civilizations. ...show more content... When bureaucrats come in there is a rise in the social elite. The social elite were mostly made up of religious figures, military as well as civil leaders and of course the bureaucrats. This is where monumental architecture come in. Monumental architecture could be anything. It could be a religious temple or a palace or even a warehouse. Most monumental architecture was dedicated to someone like a king or a god. When long distance trade starting to occur and more craft goods being produced, you need a way to keep a record of all the items and trades. The creation of writing was what helped with this. Writing kept the bureaucrats informed and kept a record of the trades that occurred. (Smiley 2015: Unit 1). All of these aspects are a part of a civilization and there are many more. Every society of the world was a civilization and every civilization had a city. A city–state is a part of a civilization but is independent. One example is the civilization Mesopotamia had city–states that were all independent of each other. City–states share a lot of the same traits like a civilizations but on a smaller scale. There was craft production, a centralized political and religious bureaucracies and trading. There are other feature that makes up a city–state like a walled city, canals, and outlying villages, farms, fields and a temple. (Smiley 2015: Unit 2). Two cites come to mind when these features are mentioned Ur and Maskan–shapir. Ur was occupied about 7,000 years Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. City Vs Country Living in the City vs. Living in the Country I grew up in the city and thought I would always be a resident of Winston–Salem, but relocating to the country was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Living in either one of these provides some similar things like a roof over my head and a place to rest. Both locations allow me to have neighbors and access to public schools and there is a Food Lion and a Sheetz within a few miles from them too. Some things that are perceived differently and living in the country change these perceptions as opposed to living in the city. Depending on the location a simple door knock, the sound of gunshots and the sound of sirens can have different implications. A knock at the door can lead to entirely different people being at your doorstep whether you live in the city or the country. In the city, strangers knocking ...show more content... In the city, these sounds typically mean that there has been an automobile accident and the police are on the way. Sometimes they indicate the need for help from the police during a physical altercation or that of a property crime. Not in the country though. Out there, the sounds of sirens indicate the need for medical help from an ambulance, and most of the time these sounds are coming from the trucks from the fire department because they are the first responders out in the country. There are many similarities between living in the city and living in the country like having neighbors and public schools. They both provide a place to rest with a roof over your head and places to shop within a few miles. The differences in how specific events are perceived are like opposites though. • 13. A Beautiful City In every country, there is a city that attracts people's attentions. It could be a beautiful city or bear a great history displayed in its fascinating buildings or fabulous museums. Some people could have memories to share with this city. Others could sense that this city is their place to gather with their lovers and friends. Manhattan, which is known to be one of the most attractive cities in the world, astonishes people in many ways. There was a noticeable advancement through the last decades. Manhattan can be seen in different ways in the eyes of people, which reflects different impressions on people. These astonishments show contradictions that make up Manhattan as it is now. In the daily life of Manhattan, the rate of time is as fast as the speed of light. An explorer walking around the city that never sleeps will discover that this city is constantly moving. People are running to catch trains, buses, planes, etc. They have no time to sit and have a chat to one another. "Manhattan from sense of sight", John Berger states that, " Everywhere there is talk...... The talk directly corresponds to what is going on in one's head at the moment.". Clearly, talking is a formal protection and it protects oneself. Also, it diminishes the space between people. In addition, communication prevents sliding into oblivion. In the play "The IMAGINARY INVALID" by Moliere, Argan felt that he was lonely and couldn't find love from his surroundings. He develops a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When I took, my first step out I felt "horrifying rush" (Lahiri 172) of people passing me. Endless amounts of streets surround me, I felt like a rat in a maze. I did not know what street I should go on to get where I wanted to go. There was endless amount of cars flowing through the streets and honking their monotone horn. Never– ending noise generated by rest of the things around me. So many different surround you as you work. • 15. Sustainable Cities : A Sustainable City Sustainable Cities A sustainable city is when harmony is reached between the environment, economy and society. Environmentally, sustainable cities are ecologically friendly by using alternative sources of energy such as solar or wind power. Economically, governments should share a similar decision–making process with institutions and with the public by having a common belief in what should be done by improving sustainability. Sorensen, Marcotullio, and Grant (2004), find that a good decision making process consists of planning and control at the municipal and national political levels which would allow local level functions to become reinforced. Socially, sustainable cities are classless, meaning that there are no social divisions which serve as limits; leading to a more equal society. One of the many ideas would be using mixed housing to remove the class divisions between people. Also, city streets would be walkable, with businesses and services located at close proximity to promote a healthier lifestyle and serve as an alternative to using cars for transportation. The writers differ in their analysis when examining the approaches to improving sustainability in cities. This section will analyze four important ideas on how cities can become more sustainable. Campbell (1996), argues that it is necessary to focus on three major points, being the environment, economy and society when planning a sustainable city. He constructs a prism which holds each of these features at a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Descriptive Essay About My City Our town is more home to us than our actual house. We make so much memories around town, whether it's dining out with the family at a local restaurant or learning how to ride a bike at our local park to spending our first paycheck at the local mall. Our town is very precious and we often take for granted, what a privilege it is to live in a place where so much is accessible to us. We often oversee all the little things our town offers like the stores, the parks, the many street lights that keep our town well lit, and the well paved roads. Today I will discuss the description of my town, the people that make up my neighborhood, and the perks of living in Orland Park. Orland Park is a southwest suburb in Illinois. It is a well known town due to it's many fine dining restaurants, shopping centers, and great school district. Orland Park is a busy town and to fit the needs of the people, the busiest street was just remodeled. Lagrange Road was just remodeled and widened into a three lane road in each direction. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation website, "The project cost ninety–five million dollars and took three years to complete." Now there is a brick median in the road that is filled with trees, flowers, and small bushes. On the southbound side of LaGrange Road there is a walking trail, that is also used as a biking trail. Most of the shopping centers and buildings all have the same design. The buildings consist of tan colored bricks and long but narrow Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. City vs Country There are many differences between living in the city or in a country setting, but the country setting has many more advantages over the city. The air and water quality and other environment factors are improved in the country setting. The school system is safer and less crowded in a rural setting. The roads are not loaded with traffic and taxis. The country is safer than the city and crime rates are lower. In the country, there is an abundance of trees and vegetation. In the country, there are parks and open spaces, and there is a variety of wildlife to observe. Although some of the reasons why one might choose to live in either place are left to personal preference, there are many factors based solely on facts. Some advantages of...show more content... People may also live a greater distance away from family and friends. There may not be many large local events such as concerts or shows hosted in a country town. The country can have serious effects on people with allergies to pollen and other air borne plant particles. Because there are many trees and vegetation in the country the pollen count can get very high and can severely affect people with allergies. In the city, there are a few drawbacks mostly to do with distances and entertainment. Although living in the city can be fast paced and exciting, there are some disadvantages involved with living there. The environment in the city may not be as healthy in the city. The air quality is usually reduced due to emissions and the reduced amount of vegetation and trees. City water is often treated with more chemicals. The rivers if any are more likely to be polluted in the city. The amount of litter on the streets is often higher. There are fewer trees and parks with not as much open space. There is not very much wildlife present in cities. The schools in cities often have larger classroom sizes and more students per school. Violence is so common in city schools that many of them need metal detectors and security guards to help protect children. Schools with more students in urban and city areas have higher violence rates than schools that are more rural. Most people are aware that the city can be a dangerous place. • 20. Research Paper On The City Of Ur The City of Ur The dessert is a terrifically uninhabitable place. There is little or no water, there is no vegetation, there is little wildlife, and the wildlife available is not particularly appetizing. There is no useful wood or stone as building materials, and so to live in the desert is completely dependant on the importation of all good from far away lands. Why then are cities built in desserts. In my mind these were cities build by people exiled to the desert with no other possible place to go. However recently I read about a city in the desert named Ur which dates back to the 900bc making it one of the first cities in the world. The paradox of a city built in the desert as one of the first cities in the world is at face value...show more content... These rich soil and abundant fresh water conditions provide the necessary foundation for a city to survive in a dessert. UR was a city that developed because it could. It had the all the necessary conditions to support a city and these conditions came together all at the right time to produce a city in the desert. However UR was much more than just a city that happened to come together, it is a place which exhibited extraordinary character and provided an unimaginably high standard of living for its time. The agriculture surpluses produced from the irrigating techniques of the time were sufficient to support a class of non farmers consisting of merchants, politicians and religious figures. This separation from the land and the free time associated with this separation allowed some of the people of UR to focus their energy on things other then sustenance such as structural innovation, creativity in the form of the arts, rudimentary medicine, law and religion. One of the most striking aspects of the city is its residential structures. The city of UR was a prehistoric city so there are no written accounts of the city. All that is known from the city can be determined from archeology. Because the city was violently destroyed and lost, it was relatively undisturbed for thousands of years until it was rediscovered by archeologists. these conditions made the discovery of such Get more content on HelpWriting.net
