PRIMARY EDUCATION
EDITING THE FLAWS
In India, there exists one of the best setup to impart QUALITY EDUCATION
even to remote areas. But the setup – which is theoretically best – isn’t as best
in imparting results as well.
The problem lies in:-
 The overburdened teachers.
 Negligence and non-cooperation of parents.
 Children come in GREED for Mid-Day meals, scholarships and
uniforms… not in NEED to study
 Vigilance set up only to monitor the growth rate but not in growth in
education.
 SHIKSHA KA NIYAM- to pass every student till class 8th
washes away the spirit of competition and fair play.
 Management Committees- SMC and Gram Shiksha Samiti- are
themselves illiterate and insensitive to school issues.
Government makes laws and laws are great.. But theory is quite
different from practicality, isn’t it ?? Government actually needs
to see what the ground reality is….
Thus, it somewhere needs to amend its laws and see to their
implementation as well….
PROBLEM- absence of all kinds of parental cooperation and guidance add to
misery of teachers. The teachers already overburdened by just not the file works
alone is also held responsible for many tasks she just doesn’t needs to be blamed for:
• Mid day meals ?? Why ???
SOLUTION- The Pradhan- solely responsible for catering to the needs of
school- should be made responsible !!!
• Low attendance of students ?? Why ???
SOLUTION- Teacher is the pool and students thirsty. Pool never walks up to the
thirsty.A counselling committee should be organised that looks up to literate parents
for their need to make their children study by-
• calling regular sessions at Panchayat Levels to hear problems and
solve them
• Sending workers door to door to guide parents
• Collecting attendance and drop-outs data from schools and work
on it
• Being in direct contact with teachers.
Maintaining all records ??
SOLUTION- Appointing clerks for the task. Such tasks consume a
very good deal of time that could be spent on teaching
• Presence at duties ??
SOLUTION- involvement of teachers in duties and their training
seldom makes them spend months out of schools.. So teachers should
be trained during vacations and should be given duties on holidays.
IMPACT :- Teacher would be free enough to concentrate on
students and help from parental side would add to it !!
PROBLEM – children come
in greed of mid day meals,
uniforms and scholarships…
not out of love or need of
education.This is so against the
spirit of Education.
SOLUTION – the facilities
lure the students to schools
but not to studies. Instead of
scholarships, students should
be provided with proper
stationaries and bags. Since the
parents most often take up
this money for odd chores.
IMPACT – providing with
basic needs to these poor
fellow will make them better
equipped for studies…
PROBLEM – Management Committee of Schools that look up the flaws
of it the schools like SMC and Gram Shiksha Samiti, either compromises of 9
out of 11 illiterate people of the “YES MAMS” or r least interested with the
school issues.
SOLUTION – The members of such committee should be selected by
Counselling Committee as per the data they acquire from each parent(those
who show vigilance in their child’s education)These members should be
trained to promote education and be educated to understand
flaws of the setup.
IMPACT – Such committee comprises of people directly related with
schools and would become functional and helpful when they start pointing
the flaws out.
PROBLEM – Among one of the laws is one that
states clearly that no student should be failed till class
8th.
One learns to stand up after failure and improves by
spirit of competition. Such a law does nothing but
allows the unqualified be declared as qualified.
SOLUTION – Such a law should be amended to allow the
teachers to retain a student in the same class after failing twice.
IMPACT – A pressure to study, zeal to do better develops while the
reluctance washes away……
PROBLEM – Vigilance Committee looks up only to
paper records and not to the growth in education in
practical terms. This leads to students passing out with
poor quality of education.
SOLUTION – Data should be collected of performance
of each student by SDM, analysed and checked in record
to deterioration of performance of certain students. Play
way periods should be conducted by trained professionals
or teachers to help children learn while studying. Mid-
semesters should be conducted.
IMPACT – Mid-semesters improves a student by the
time he/she gives the annual examinations. Play way
method of learning enhances participation of students.
Individual attention through data spots the needy who
wants help in studies…
CHALLENGES
Illiteracy of parents, their negligence and
in-cooperation.
Money requirement of parents which is
fulfilled by children by working.
Providing too much for free have made
them greedy, so this needs to be stopped
or continued, if needed, to a small extent.
The very social framework of such remote
areas is weak.
