2. Alexandru Averescu (born April 3, 1859,
Babele, United Principalities - d. October 2,
1938, Bucharest, Romania) was Marshal of
Romania, Army General and Commander
of the Romanian Army during the First
World War, being often credited for the few
military successes of Romania. He was also
Prime Minister of Romania in three
separate cabinets (being an Interim Minister
of Foreign Affairs during January-March
1918). Averescu was the author of 12 works
on military issues (including a volume of
memoirs on the front line) , honorary

3. It is remarkable by the strategic thinking of a large scale, in this
sense memorable remains the offensive from Flămânda in the autumn of 1916
and from Marasti in the summer of 1917. The general is a good organizer, a
man who loves and takes care of the soldiers a strategist with a vision, and
especially a man whom the country can rely on in the mercenary moments, as
the circumstances of 1917, when, if desired, Averescu could have taken power
by a coup. On the contrary, he proved to be a wise man, resisting temptations,
at a time when the Romanian state was weakened.
His contribution to the accomplishment of Great Romania is huge

4. "He had always been able to cope even with desperate situations"
All these qualities turned him into the most beloved and most popular general of the
Romanian army from the 1916-1919 era. This is how the myth of Averescu was born, a myth
that propelled him to the head of the government at the end of the war. A fine analyst and well-
known of the Romanian realities of the interwar period, Constantin Argetoianu described in his
memoirs the key in which the general's popularity can be interpreted among the people:
"Among the peasants, Averescu's name was on all lips; in him the hopes were crystallized, only
the expectation of the miracle of a livelihood without need and worry ...
The popularity of General Averescu was a psychosis of the front, and the
demobilization took her to the villages as if bringing any other illness. The origin of this
psychology must be sought in the fact that whenever a weight was on the front, General
Averescu had been sent to handle things and managed to face even the desperate situations ... "

5. Political career
After the war, Averescu launches himself into politics: he establishes the
People's Party, he is appointed prime minister (1920-1921, 1926-1927), but at the
zenith, General Averescu's star begins to descend. If at the military level he was able
to dominate the enemy of Ion I.C. Bratianu, in political terms, did not resist the same
Bratianu who helped him lead the government in 1926-1912, but who put his point on
the political career in 1927 when disputes arose between him and the general. The
death of Bratianu, King Ferdinand, the crisis of the monarchy were the factors that
brought Alexandru Averescu into politics in the early 1930s.

6. In 1938, although suffering from heart, he holds the last public positions - royal
counselor and minister of state in the government of Patriarch Miron Cristea. He
died in the same year on October 3, being buried with great honors in the crypt of
the Mărășești heroes.

7. Achievements as Minister: Agrarian and Financial Reform
As a politician, Alexander Averescu did not rise to the
expectations of his contemporaries, his myth proved to be part of the
imaginary born in the front of the front, but the political career gave
him the opportunity to wash away his shameful deeds and the whole
political class - the revolt of 1907. Averescu was the one who carried
out the agrarian reform. Other achievements of its political activity
were monetary unification, financial reform.
In his entire personality, Alexander Averescu remains in national history, mainly through his
military achievements. He is one of our great commanders and heroes in the First World War. And
to Alexander Averescu we owe him an eternal gratitude for his important contribution to Romania
today!
