Descriptive Essay On A Tree
Our tree was a wonderful place. It continuously changed throughout the year, and we continuously witnessed its changes. During science class,
occasionally Safiyya and I would walk down with the entire class to the vast of trees near South Lakes High School. While we were visiting that area,
we would note qualitative, quantitative observations and inferences about our adopted a tree. Since it was in the Deciduous Forest biome, most times
out of five times we visited, it rained. As the year progressed, out predictions were based on the weather. For example, in September, we knew it
would be chillier. During chilly weather, we knew it would activate the leaves to fall off. Thus in the weather of autumn, we predicted amber foliage.
The entire project's purpose was to see the progression of the tree at Snake Den/ Difficult Run.
Our tree isn't fitting into the description of tall or short. Its high is about the middle height compared to the rest of the trees in the vicinity. Its leaves
were spiky at the edges of the leaf. The coloration of the leaf was similar to the rest of the leaves, except it was paler. Leaves on the tree were attached
to the twigs that the trunk shot out. Branches on it were really thin and wispy, it looked as if one yank to the limb it would gently drop. The trunk of
the entire tree was crooked compared to other trees. None of the other trees were perfectly straight, but our tree was especially twisted. It starts out
fine, then slowly leans to the right. There aren't any other major branches that sprout from the trunk. Throughout the year, our trees progressed like
any other tree would. All leaves were darkened to bright vivid shades and some even faded to gray, one common thing is that they all had a glossy
top and a matte green on the underside. Soon the snow would drown base of the trunk. It would melt and nourish the life of the tree and leaves will
grow again. The cycle will always continue until the death of this tree comes. Overall our tree was on the skinnier side and it compared to other trees
as microscopic.
Keeping the measurements was vital in this project. The numbers told if there was growth in the one tree we were surveilling. On the first day of
visiting the tree, it was

Three Descriptive Research Methods Essay
One of of three methods used for descriptive research is the case study. The case study method is the oldest form of research used in psychology
today. To help you better understand what case studies are I would recommend you think of an individual person case. Case study is when someone
studies one person to explain things that happen for all of us. Basically applying the outcome to all people ; one representing all. Case studies will
describe your behavior. In present day we have noticed that although the individual cases may be accurate, it only applies to that one person. There
will always be a conflict of interest because what may happen to one person does not necessarily happen to the next. For example you may say that after

This type of research gathers information from a large group of people. It will be not go into depth as much as the case study might and involves
many cases. As an example think of making you own survey and distributing it out to various amounts of people, gathering the information and
conducting you hypothesis. We are constantly asked to participate in surveys whether its an internet advertisement or a class handout from the
college you attend. When asking you question you have to be careful as to how you word the question. The words you choose may influence a
participant to lean toward a certain side. You may sound biased toward one issue which will effect you survey and hypothesis. Using random
sampling allows researcher to have a fair representation of the subjects under study. Every person has an equal chance of participating. I would use this
method with very larger groups of people. Ex. school. The last from of research would be naturalistic observation. Basically watching and recording the
behavior of different subjects in the natural environment.Much of the reality shows today could be considered a form of naturalistic observation.
Pending on how much the program actually interferes with the subject , they allow for an interesting hypothesis. This research will describe the
behavior of an subject. Now that we have the information from the research we can evaluate the differences and similarities. When the research reveals

Descriptive Essay : ' The Playground '
As a small child in elementary school, I remember the anticipation of lunchtime recess, do you? Ordinarily, the lunchtime bell would ring, the teacher
would line everyone up to eat lunch, that's when the excitement began to build. The chatter of voices began to fill the air; students begin discussing
what they want to conquer first. Mary–go–rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, balls, jump ropes, a time where imaginations would explode and run
rapidly. Once Lunchtime is over, the Teachers would open a portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: the playground. First, you hear the
screeching of chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor. Then the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy would fill the area. Bursting through the doors,

An unstructured recess can offer students' benefits that structured pay will never allow for. The government, school districts, and teachers may not see
the need or the benefits of recess, but research tells us that children build social, mental, and physical skills through this type of interaction. The United
States Department of Labor requires two paid fifteen–minute breaks and a one–hour lunch break for employees working over eight hours a day
(WHD); if adults must ahead to these guidelines why shouldn't students/children be permitted the same provisions? Everyone needs a break from a
rigorous work day: students need unstructured recess play.
Viewed as Satan himself: pure evil, Common Core State Standardized Testing has been labeled by critics as the predominant reason for vanishing
recess time. Verging on seven years, forty–one states around the country adopted the State Board of Education Common Core standard test for both
Math and English (EdSource). One might ask why the U.S. Government felt it necessary for this type of testing? Created to eliminate discrepancies
between educational experiences and strengths among high school graduates from different states, and the growing

Campus Descriptive Essay
West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every morning I would wake up knowing that I have the
privilege of attending a good school with a breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into my
room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates walking to class and going about their days.
Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the first
time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped
for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard
planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub
v" on every passing persons clothing. Most of my classmates were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing my surroundings. A
strong breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced me as I continued my journey to class. Passing several students on my
way, nodding my head in acknowledgement, a few familiar faces make eye contact and smile. The weather that day was perfect, not too hot, but

A narrative essay is about storytelling for a narrative story to work it must capture and hold the audience attention you must give a clear understanding
of your story. A descriptiveessay lets you describe in detail what the essay is all about using words that appeal to your sense of smell, hearing, see,
touch, and taste. A descriptive essay lets you use words that describes a person, place, or object. When I compare the author'snarrative essay "Are the

Make the description vivid and interesting. I think that a descriptive essay is more powerful because it tell a story in detail. It tells you what it is all
about how to except the story where the story originated from whether it is fiction or a documentary. My opinion on the essays are similar because
narrating the story is the author who is writing the story and also describing the essays in many ways. I think you must like the descripting essay

Terrified beyond belief as I fall, i hit the carpet with a soft thud, and turn enough to see you stand to your mesmerizing full height, laughing. You turn

Alone, in carpet fibers up to my knees, I stay still. You'll come back, right? I wonder.* PRINCESS!!!! *I shout out, and I wait, as the light slowly

The finish is too smooth to attempt a climb up the leg, and I ponder in the darkness for a while. The chair would also be too difficult, not to mention

gently climb up the cord, straddling it, and stand up on it, delicately balancing my way to the towering plug. Luckily, its contour allows many
places to grip, and soon I am to the top, where the cord begins. I shudder as I look at the thing cord disappear overhead into the darkness, between the

while climbing. Slowly and slowy I inch higher, as the floor and power strip disappear into the darkness. Higher and higher I go for what seems like
nearly an hour before, in the darkness, the cord begins to slip. I'm in free fall, my pathetic life flashing before my eyes, dying on the cord of a laptop
before I'm jolted back to reality. I slide a few inches down the cord as it stops, and sweaty and panting, I race to the top. I discover the connector, twice
as long as I, had become lodged in the crack behind the desk, and could not fall to the ground. My meager weight and tugging must have dislodged it. I

Silent. At the edge of the sky there was a magnificent white patch, a turning page, catching the sun. The rest was ivory grey, with a subtle hint of
mauve, just enough to announce the coming sunset. Scanning the horizon were the white cotton balls on cerulean satin, with a subtle layer of dove
grey underneath, which was thin enough to let the light through. Stood there like a ghost, a silent observer of the venerable castle, and the clouds.
The colossal mountains were shielding the inferior castle. Beyond the towering mountains was a decrepit, venerable and ancient castle like structure.
The azure roof was coated and concealed by the thick opaque dust. The roof was as dusty as an abandoned warehouse floor. It was an elderly going

walked towards the battle of our lives, the castle silhouetted behind us like someone faintly saying goodbye. The narrow barren streets were
scattered with muculent mud and broken decomposed parts of the castle lay beside it reminding us that danger was slowly approaching. The street
was a skeleton, stripped of its flesh. All that remains was the broken parts of the concrete structure. Quiet and derelict. The street was a river of the
rusted burnt charcoal like concrete parts of the castle. Perhaps years back this street was immersed in pools of yellow light from the assaulted street
lamps. Walking past the street lamps made the scent of burnt smoke go inside me like a barren soul. The street lamps were concealing us and we
were inferior to the street lamps. The street lamps were covering us with darkness reminding us of the danger ahead of

Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such
a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing
that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually
used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive
grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show

Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide.
Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold
the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the
other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively
correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for
second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach
to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to
prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or

It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me.
My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my
friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of
slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear
what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are

One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or

is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to
fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your
time, Kevin. We really appreciate it."
The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of
that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking
and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to
be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive
again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

No matter how hard life gets for me and how chaotic things can become there has always been one person that I can turn to, my mom. She's been a

does the guidance she has given me over the years. She's not afraid to give me a reality check and to tell me the things I don't want to hear even though I
need to. She keeps me grounded and teaches me to appreciate the smaller things in life. Even though my dad was still involved in my life after my

try. My mother is strong–willed and stubborn; when she sets her mind to something almost nothing will stop her and what an impossible feat it is to
change her mind on something. She is very impatient; when she wants something done she wants it done at this very moment, no later. She is
idealistic and she enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. She loves nature and would love nothing more than to be living in a cabin in the
mountains while listening to country music. She does not pay much attention to news happening outside her local area and prefers to focus on what's

Social Structure and Its Effect On Our Lives
Social structures are constraints that affect the lives of both the affluent and the indigent members of society. Each society has its own set of social
arrangements for example; class, gender and ethnicity are all constraints that each society has to deal with in one way or another. One of the most
fundamental of the social structures would be class. Class structure is found in all societies and is the key source of economical inequality. Members of
different class groups start their lives with unequal opportunities. This means that when someone is born into a poor household they will undoubtedly
remain in the same economical situation they began in. Gender is another important...show more content...
According to McGregor (1989) class is the main cause of inequality and social injustice in Australia. The prime explanation for this is that members of
different class groups begin their lives with unequal opportunities, this affects the education they will receive, the social connections they will make
and even the way they speak and behave. McGregor also argues that the class one belongs to is determined by many factors, these include; power,
family background, wealth, lifestyle, mannerisms, social interactions, and employment. Class can be separated into three categories, upper class, middle
class and lower class.
According to Abercrombie (2000) the upper class is distinguished from the rest by its wealth and power. The upper class consists of very few
people; McGregor argues that it may be as little 1% of society's population. The people in this group are employers, they own large quantities of land,
and some are self–employed or have a career as managers or professionals. Wealth is distributed among the upper class members mainly through
inheritance. With greater wealth people have the opportunity to manipulate the life that they will lead. The education system reinforces many
inequalities insuring that members of the highest class have better opportunities and elevated chances of achieving greatness. Members

The Abandoned house stood there, with fog rising to the sky. Lights flickered being the only light in the dark..... The fog dragged a cold breeze, that

I turned on my flashlight, it was the first thing that came to my mind. As, the bright light flashed its way on, were the "shadow" I saw a couple

sudden, the most creepiest sound in history of sounds filled my ears, it was the sound of tiny footsteps of children running around... I took one step onto
the stairs and it made a huge noise. Then the running noise stopped. I listen, my heart stopped......

I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses, one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth,
soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to force

Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it
is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From the

Descriptive Essay Of A Restaurant
Once I stepped inside the restaurant I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate level and the laughter of the customers. Right off the

ingredients are fresh, mouth watering, and surely not filled with antibiotics and all that other genetically modified elements found in processed foods.
The vintage, rustic looking place, holds a small town atmosphere with a big taste.
The host sat my sister and I at a table in the middle of the dining area. A giant window let sunlight flood into the room and the speakers provided a
good backdrop of music to help engage conversation. The restaurant itself seems fairly modern: leather seating, dark wood tables, and mason jar
for glasses. It is the epitome of a hang out spot for any teen, millennial, or elder meetup. The staff caters to the needs of the customers and are
always ready to help out in any way possible. I started the meal off with a glass of sweet tea that never made it lower then the halfway point. The
waitress was always there with a pitcher of their home brewed sweet tea. The tea itself was not too sweet, it had the subtle taste of the bitterness that
tea should have. In other words it did not taste like someone dumped a bag

As we sat in the booth, more people walked into the doors looking as if they've been there a thousand times before, so eager; knowing exactly what
they would be ordering. Then there was the people like Darell and I, who supposedly looked like lost puppies; unaware of what they were going to get

As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures to which the natural spot light shines from the sun hit
the wonderful master pieces. Then you walk more deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium size to
large sculptures. One sculpture that is space equally to one an another, but they all have no cloth on. As you tend to get closer and closer and the
story of the sculptures reveal more details of what is the sculpture tell you like a story telling. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of a more
muscle structures. When looking at a stone sign above, you notice that you are in a theme of nude figure sculptures. In the center were the four
main sculptures which is in order from finest pick from the museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The Lansdown Athlete, the
Roman copy of the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos. From my opinion is that the
sculptures are in nude because they tell us that the sculptures are goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real. The nude sculpture is one
who is not wearing cloth or less who which it shows our body parts. Most of the sculptures are made out of stone, marble, and bronze. They are shown
in large structure or a human size. All figures are mostly made in Greek Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist show more details in human body
structures. For

Descriptive Essay On A Tree

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On A Tree Our tree was a wonderful place. It continuously changed throughout the year, and we continuously witnessed its changes. During science class, occasionally Safiyya and I would walk down with the entire class to the vast of trees near South Lakes High School. While we were visiting that area, we would note qualitative, quantitative observations and inferences about our adopted a tree. Since it was in the Deciduous Forest biome, most times out of five times we visited, it rained. As the year progressed, out predictions were based on the weather. For example, in September, we knew it would be chillier. Its leaves were spiky at the edges of the leaf. The coloration of the leaf was similar to the rest of the leaves, except it was paler. Leaves on the tree were attached to the twigs that the trunk shot out. Branches on it were really thin and wispy, it looked as if one yank to the limb it would gently drop. The trunk of the entire tree was crooked compared to other trees. None of the other trees were perfectly straight, but our tree was especially twisted. It starts out fine, then slowly leans to the right. There aren't any other major branches that sprout from the trunk. Throughout the year, our trees progressed like any other tree would. All leaves were darkened to bright vivid shades and some even faded to gray, one common thing is that they all had a glossy top and a matte green on the underside. Soon the snow would drown base of the trunk. It would melt and nourish the life of the tree and leaves will grow again. The cycle will always continue until the death of this tree comes. Overall our tree was on the skinnier side and it compared to other trees as microscopic. Keeping the measurements was vital in this project. The numbers told if there was growth in the one tree we were surveilling. On the first day of visiting the tree, it was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Three Descriptive Research Methods Essay One of of three methods used for descriptive research is the case study. The case study method is the oldest form of research used in psychology today. To help you better understand what case studies are I would recommend you think of an individual person case. Case study is when someone studies one person to explain things that happen for all of us. Basically applying the outcome to all people ; one representing all. Case studies will describe your behavior. In present day we have noticed that although the individual cases may be accurate, it only applies to that one person. There will always be a conflict of interest because what may happen to one person does not necessarily happen to the next. For example you may say that after ...show more content... This type of research gathers information from a large group of people. It will be not go into depth as much as the case study might and involves many cases. As an example think of making you own survey and distributing it out to various amounts of people, gathering the information and conducting you hypothesis. We are constantly asked to participate in surveys whether its an internet advertisement or a class handout from the college you attend. When asking you question you have to be careful as to how you word the question. The words you choose may influence a participant to lean toward a certain side. You may sound biased toward one issue which will effect you survey and hypothesis. Using random sampling allows researcher to have a fair representation of the subjects under study. Every person has an equal chance of participating. I would use this method with very larger groups of people. Ex. school. The last from of research would be naturalistic observation. Basically watching and recording the behavior of different subjects in the natural environment.Much of the reality shows today could be considered a form of naturalistic observation. Pending on how much the program actually interferes with the subject , they allow for an interesting hypothesis. This research will describe the behavior of an subject. Now that we have the information from the research we can evaluate the differences and similarities. When the research reveals that one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay : ' The Playground ' As a small child in elementary school, I remember the anticipation of lunchtime recess, do you? Ordinarily, the lunchtime bell would ring, the teacher would line everyone up to eat lunch, that's when the excitement began to build. The chatter of voices began to fill the air; students begin discussing what they want to conquer first. Mary–go–rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, balls, jump ropes, a time where imaginations would explode and run rapidly. Once Lunchtime is over, the Teachers would open a portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: the playground. First, you hear the screeching of chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor. Then the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy would fill the area. Bursting through the doors, ...show more content... An unstructured recess can offer students' benefits that structured pay will never allow for. The government, school districts, and teachers may not see the need or the benefits of recess, but research tells us that children build social, mental, and physical skills through this type of interaction. The United States Department of Labor requires two paid fifteen–minute breaks and a one–hour lunch break for employees working over eight hours a day (WHD); if adults must ahead to these guidelines why shouldn't students/children be permitted the same provisions? Everyone needs a break from a rigorous work day: students need unstructured recess play. Viewed as Satan himself: pure evil, Common Core State Standardized Testing has been labeled by critics as the predominant reason for vanishing recess time. Verging on seven years, forty–one states around the country adopted the State Board of Education Common Core standard test for both Math and English (EdSource). One might ask why the U.S. Government felt it necessary for this type of testing? Created to eliminate discrepancies between educational experiences and strengths among high school graduates from different states, and the growing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Campus Descriptive Essay West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the first time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons clothing. Most of my classmates were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing my surroundings. A strong breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced me as I continued my journey to class. Passing several students on my way, nodding my head in acknowledgement, a few familiar faces make eye contact and smile. The weather that day was perfect, not too hot, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Narrative and Descriptive Essay McKinney_w5_a2.docx Compare–Contrast Essay Eng121: English Composition I (AXC13480) Regina McKinney Professor: Nancy Segovia January 1, 2014 A narrative essay is about storytelling for a narrative story to work it must capture and hold the audience attention you must give a clear understanding of your story. A descriptiveessay lets you describe in detail what the essay is all about using words that appeal to your sense of smell, hearing, see, touch, and taste. A descriptive essay lets you use words that describes a person, place, or object. When I compare the author'snarrative essay "Are the Rich Happy?" by Steven Leacock and the author's descriptive essay "Sister Flowers" by Maya Angelou it is clear that there...show more content... Make the description vivid and interesting. I think that a descriptive essay is more powerful because it tell a story in detail. It tells you what it is all about how to except the story where the story originated from whether it is fiction or a documentary. My opinion on the essays are similar because narrating the story is the author who is writing the story and also describing the essays in many ways. I think you must like the descripting essay better it is giving you vivid detail in your essay. It appeals to your senses in many ways follow your feelings when listening to a descriptive essay. Can you feel the passion or can you taste the cookies Sister Flowers made and the lemons, sugar, in the lemonade. And I believe she made those cookies and lemonade with lots of love for Marguerite. I believe she wanted to encourage Marguerite to talk more in class. And bring more detail to her work. • 6. Bed Room Descriptive Writing Terrified beyond belief as I fall, i hit the carpet with a soft thud, and turn enough to see you stand to your mesmerizing full height, laughing. You turn away, and I can practically hear your footsteps boom as you step to the counter, grab my wallet, and leave, closing the seemingly mile–tall door shut. Alone, in carpet fibers up to my knees, I stay still. You'll come back, right? I wonder.* PRINCESS!!!! *I shout out, and I wait, as the light slowly fades from the room, and all that is left to illuminate your bedroom is the light flooding in from a crack in the door to the bathroom that you absent mindedly left on getting ready to go out. That, and the soft glow of your laptop, up on your computer desk. You were serious. I was alone.* *Wading...show more content... The finish is too smooth to attempt a climb up the leg, and I ponder in the darkness for a while. The chair would also be too difficult, not to mention once i reach the seat being at the mercy of your ass. But there, in the back, barely visible. Apower cord, plugged in a power strip. I race toward it, and gently climb up the cord, straddling it, and stand up on it, delicately balancing my way to the towering plug. Luckily, its contour allows many places to grip, and soon I am to the top, where the cord begins. I shudder as I look at the thing cord disappear overhead into the darkness, between the wall and the desktop, but I grasp the cord and begin to shimmy up. The cord is thicker aorund than I am tall, but the rubbery surface allows for ease while climbing. Slowly and slowy I inch higher, as the floor and power strip disappear into the darkness. Higher and higher I go for what seems like nearly an hour before, in the darkness, the cord begins to slip. I'm in free fall, my pathetic life flashing before my eyes, dying on the cord of a laptop before I'm jolted back to reality. I slide a few inches down the cord as it stops, and sweaty and panting, I race to the top. I discover the connector, twice as long as I, had become lodged in the crack behind the desk, and could not fall to the ground. My meager weight and tugging must have dislodged it. I climb onto the smooth surface, the room aglow in a soft blue light from the disturbed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Castle Descriptive Writing Silent. At the edge of the sky there was a magnificent white patch, a turning page, catching the sun. The rest was ivory grey, with a subtle hint of mauve, just enough to announce the coming sunset. Scanning the horizon were the white cotton balls on cerulean satin, with a subtle layer of dove grey underneath, which was thin enough to let the light through. It was an elderly going paler as it got older and ancient. As I nonchalantly walked up the moaning narrow staircase, a thick mist of cold crisp air blew through me, rustling my hair and sending a chill down my spine....show more content... It looked like the sun had given up on trying to break through the iron curtain of clouds that it decided to lounge behind them. As we nervously walked towards the battle of our lives, the castle silhouetted behind us like someone faintly saying goodbye. The narrow barren streets were scattered with muculent mud and broken decomposed parts of the castle lay beside it reminding us that danger was slowly approaching. The street was a skeleton, stripped of its flesh. All that remains was the broken parts of the concrete structure. Quiet and derelict. The street was a river of the rusted burnt charcoal like concrete parts of the castle. Perhaps years back this street was immersed in pools of yellow light from the assaulted street lamps. Walking past the street lamps made the scent of burnt smoke go inside me like a barren soul. The street lamps were concealing us and we were inferior to the street lamps. The street lamps were covering us with darkness reminding us of the danger ahead of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show more content... Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are ...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Descriptive Essay About My Mother No matter how hard life gets for me and how chaotic things can become there has always been one person that I can turn to, my mom. She's been a wealth of advice to call on when I'm clueless and a shoulder to cry on when I'm down. Her compassion for others inspires me to be a better person as does the guidance she has given me over the years. She's not afraid to give me a reality check and to tell me the things I don't want to hear even though I need to. She keeps me grounded and teaches me to appreciate the smaller things in life. Even though my dad was still involved in my life after my parents split up it was my mother who I primarily lived with and it was her who had the greatest influence on my life growing up. My mother is strong–willed and stubborn; when she sets her mind to something almost nothing will stop her and what an impossible feat it is to change her mind on something. She is very impatient; when she wants something done she wants it done at this very moment, no later. She is idealistic and she enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. She loves nature and would love nothing more than to be living in a cabin in the mountains while listening to country music. She does not pay much attention to news happening outside her local area and prefers to focus on what's happening in her immediate area. From my mother I have learned how to be the person that I am today. Through her I have learned the importance of family and that it is paramount to spend time with them while I still have it. Even now I try to spend time with my family when I have the opportunity to. Form her I have learned compassion for those around me and for animals. Even Get more content on HelpWriting.net

'So,' explained Mariana as they set off. 'This castle isn't a major tourist site, but my parents and I used to visit this castle a lot when I was little, just because it's so beautiful. It's actually a private home, but they still let people look around. 'Mariana,' he continued, his heart racing. 'I love you. I've loved you since the moment I first saw you sitting in the library, the most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen. The better I get to know you, the more I love you. I can't think of anything that would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. • 14. Social Structure and Its Effect On Our Lives Social structures are constraints that affect the lives of both the affluent and the indigent members of society. Each society has its own set of social arrangements for example; class, gender and ethnicity are all constraints that each society has to deal with in one way or another. One of the most fundamental of the social structures would be class. Class structure is found in all societies and is the key source of economical inequality. Members of different class groups start their lives with unequal opportunities. This means that when someone is born into a poor household they will undoubtedly remain in the same economical situation they began in. Gender is another important...show more content... According to McGregor (1989) class is the main cause of inequality and social injustice in Australia. The prime explanation for this is that members of different class groups begin their lives with unequal opportunities, this affects the education they will receive, the social connections they will make and even the way they speak and behave. McGregor also argues that the class one belongs to is determined by many factors, these include; power, family background, wealth, lifestyle, mannerisms, social interactions, and employment. Class can be separated into three categories, upper class, middle class and lower class. According to Abercrombie (2000) the upper class is distinguished from the rest by its wealth and power. The upper class consists of very few people; McGregor argues that it may be as little 1% of society's population. The people in this group are employers, they own large quantities of land, and some are self–employed or have a career as managers or professionals. Wealth is distributed among the upper class members mainly through inheritance. With greater wealth people have the opportunity to manipulate the life that they will lead. The education system reinforces many inequalities insuring that members of the highest class have better opportunities and elevated chances of achieving greatness. • 15. Descriptive Essay On The Abandoned House The Abandoned house stood there, with fog rising to the sky. Lights flickered being the only light in the dark..... The fog dragged a cold breeze, that sent a chill up my spine, this house has been here forever and nothing like this has ever happened before, I gulped and strolled into the cold night fog. As I approached the house, the door slowly opens and a Shadow steps towards me. The weather just dropped like 40 degrees, I don't like this at all. I turned on my flashlight, it was the first thing that came to my mind. As, the bright light flashed its way on, were the "shadow" I saw a couple seconds ago was gone, it must have gone back into the house have to check this out. I decided to go into the "Haunted Mansion", I walked in and every step I took, the wooden floor made a loud "CREAK!!!" The lights are so dim, that you can't see anything far away into the darkness, this was literally a maze. I walked until I noticed there was a staircase heading up to this second floor. I took a couple steps towards the stairs then All of sudden, the most creepiest sound in history of sounds filled my ears, it was the sound of tiny footsteps of children running around... I took one step onto the stairs and it made a huge noise. Then the running noise stopped. I listen, my heart stopped...... • 16. Descriptive Essay I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses, one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth, soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to force a smile, wait no scratch that– I used to try to force a smile. Now I'm not saying this so that you can view me as unhappy or negative, but in all fairness who has a smile as their natural way of expression. By all means, my personality, interests, and hobbies are the fundamental building blocks to the life I choose to live. Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From the earliest years of elementary up till this present day, it was either my wardrobe, my posture, or my way of speaking that gained the attention of my mother's judgmental eye. Eventually, the criticism started to slip out of my own mouth, and that's when I began to compare myself to others. I'm not oblivious to how unhealthy this makes me, but when I am told that I need to be better (basically my entire life), it's easy to fall into unhealthy habits. Speaking of unhealthy habits, having trust issues seems to be my main one. As I grew older and entered the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Descriptive Essay Of A Restaurant Once I stepped inside the restaurant I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate level and the laughter of the customers. Right off the back the restaurant's ambiance had a positive vibe. Mindful, it was a Saturday late afternoon. Mary Jane Burger and Brew is a local restaurant trying to stay true to its past. The granddaughter of the original owner now runs the place with the intention of serving good quality food where the ingredients are fresh, mouth watering, and surely not filled with antibiotics and all that other genetically modified elements found in processed foods. The vintage, rustic looking place, holds a small town atmosphere with a big taste. The host sat my sister and I at a table in the middle of the dining area. A giant window let sunlight flood into the room and the speakers provided a good backdrop of music to help engage conversation. The restaurant itself seems fairly modern: leather seating, dark wood tables, and mason jar for glasses. It is the epitome of a hang out spot for any teen, millennial, or elder meetup. The staff caters to the needs of the customers and are always ready to help out in any way possible. I started the meal off with a glass of sweet tea that never made it lower then the halfway point. The waitress was always there with a pitcher of their home brewed sweet tea. The tea itself was not too sweet, it had the subtle taste of the bitterness that tea should have. In other words it did not taste like someone dumped a bag Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay : ' The Chicago ' Walking up to the door, we took in the scenery of a family of four sitting at a dark, brown circular table, hanging out as if this was the place to be. As soon as we walked in the door, the mouth watering smell of sweet, burning, crispy bacon and pepperoni enticed me. We hadn't eaten all day and this was our first time in this particular place. I knew this experience would be great when I saw just how many people it attracted. It attracted people of many backgrounds and of many ages. Every table appeared free of crumbs and sauce stains as they sat shining under the fluorescent lights. Opening the box of pizza we saw that it was unbelievably thin. When I picked up my slice, the cheese was gooey and hot. I like that the food was fire cooked right in front of our faces so we didn't have to worry about where our food has been when we finally got it. The toppings started to spill off as I took my first bite. The pizza was mind–blowing. I had never tasted anything so savory. When we were full we still didn't want to stop eating (it was that good). One box just wasn't enough, we needed more. When we got down to our last slices of pizza we realized that we were, in fact, full. As we sat in the booth, more people walked into the doors looking as if they've been there a thousand times before, so eager; knowing exactly what they would be ordering. Then there was the people like Darell and I, who supposedly looked like lost puppies; unaware of what they were going to get off of the menu; unaware of the delicious pizza they were about to receive. Seeing all of the people from different walks of life, so excited to eat this pizza was great. Although the slices were only big enough to feed a five year old, it was oddly satisfying and just enough to fill us up. The pizza looked exactly as it did on the menu. The employees' customer service was way over the top. They made sure that we were contented with our choice and always had a smile Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Descriptive Essay On Sculptures As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures to which the natural spot light shines from the sun hit the wonderful master pieces. Then you walk more deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium size to large sculptures. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of a more muscle structures. When looking at a stone sign above, you notice that you are in a theme of nude figure sculptures. In the center were the four main sculptures which is in order from finest pick from the museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The Lansdown Athlete, the Roman copy of the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos. From my opinion is that the sculptures are in nude because they tell us that the sculptures are goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real. The nude sculpture is one who is not wearing cloth or less who which it shows our body parts. Most of the sculptures are made out of stone, marble, and bronze. They are shown in large structure or a human size. All figures are mostly made in Greek Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist show more details in human body structures.
