4. What is UPS?
An uninterruptible power supply(UPS).UPS is an
electrical apparatus that provides battery backup when the
electrical power fails or drops to an unacceptable voltage
level.
5. Cause of Choosing UPS battery
monitoring over GSM
īThe system provides detailed UPS running & battery
Voltage information from long distance & Wide Area.
īAutomatically and continuously monitor data on a 24-hour
basis.
īThis system is easily maintained and low cost.
6. Objective
īTo design a mechanism involving GSM technology to
monitor UPS batteries through sending SMS to mobile
phone in case failure or when battery charge falls to
unexpected level.

ī When UPS Running
from Mains Power
ī When Mains Power out & Is
there Battery1 Voltage >10.5V
Then the GSM Module
sends SMS:
UPS Standby, Mains ON,
Charging on;
Battery 1 : 10.5<14.5 V
Battery2 : 10.5<14.5 V
Then the GSM Module sends
SMS:
UPS Running from
Battery 1, LVD: 10.5 V
Battery 1 : >10.5 V
Battery2 : >10.5 V

ī When Battery1 Voltage <10.5
V & Battery2 Voltage >10.5 V
ī When Battery1 & Battery2
Voltage <10.5 V
Then the GSM Module sends
SMS:
UPS Running from
Battery2, LVD: 10.5 V
Battery1 : <10.5 V
Battery2 : >10.5 V
Then the GSM Module sends
SMS:
UPS Shutdown due to low
Battery;
Battery1 : <10.5 V
Battery2 : <10.5 V

ī A Microcontroller is a compact microcomputer designed to
the operation of embedded systems.
ī Microcontroller is a computer chip. It is able to
programming though controlling, sequencing, monitoring
in low-cost.

14. GSM Module (SIM908)
ī GSM is the world standard technology for Mobile
Communication.
ī A GSM module is a wireless module that works with a GSM
wireless network.
ī Since there are many networks provider in our country. So
that, no need to provide the network. As a result the cost
will be reduced in our project.

15. Relay
ī A relay is an electrically operated switch. It is operate the
electromagnet system. When Current flowing through the
coil then the relay creates a magnetic field which attracts a
lever and changes the switch contacts.

ī It is a integrated Circuit. It maintains the output voltage at a
constant value.

20. Conclusion
GSM based UPS battery monitoring system is beneficial for
the human generation, because nowadays mobile technology
is used effectively & enormously. The system can supervise
the running status of UPS device.
