Essay on Traffic Safety
Traffic Safety
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as "the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that
endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property"–a traffic and not a criminal offense like road rage. Examples include speeding or driving too fast
for conditions, improper lane changing, tailgating and improper passing. Approximately 6,800,000 crashes occur in the United States each year; a
substantial number are estimated to be caused by aggressive driving. 1997 statistics compiled by NHTSA and the American Automobile Association
show that almost 13,000 people have been injured or killed since 1990 in crashes caused by aggressive driving. According to a NHTSA survey, more

NHTSA research shows that compliance with, and support for, traffic laws can be increased through aggressive, targeted enforcement combined with a
vigorous public information and education program. When Maryland launched its "Aggressive Driver Campaign" in 1995, with an emphasis on public
information, education and enforcement, the media and the public praised the state police for their efforts. The public's perception was that the police
were "out there to catch the other guy." Related fatalities have declined dramatically. According to State Farm Insurance, the number of drivers on the
road is increasing. In 1990, an estimated 91 percent of people drove to work, and commuters in one–third of the largest cities spent well over 40 hours
a year in traffic jams. The Traffic Law Enforcement Division anticipates and responds to the needs, and develops innovative products that law
enforcement will seek and use to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, and injuries. Collaborating with law enforcement, prioritizing program delivery,
marketing, expanding partnerships, and establishing new partnerships, technology, and research accomplish this. They now have a Pursuit Seminar for
Law Enforcement Driver Trainers program. The focus of the seminar is to address legal and operational vehicular pursuit training issues that include
identifying factors to consider when initiating, conducting and terminating a

On the way to work or school today did you wear your seatbelt? If not you were risking you life. Not wearing your seatbelt increases your risk of
being killed or critically injured in car crashes exponentially. Although some people find seatbelts uncomfortable, seat belts decrease death in car
crashes, allow the car's safety features to perform more efficiently, and saves lives The first reason that not wearing a seatbelt should be illegal is
that seatbelts decrease death in car crashes. Although there are laws that state people have to wear seatbelts, 11.5% of people in America don't

Aircraft, vehicles, vessels and other conveyances). In 2014, about 2,000 less people died in a car accident than 2017 (Number of U.S. Aircraft,
vehicles, vessels and other conveyance). In 2015 the number of people that were killed in a crash was 35,092 (National Highway Traffic Safety

90 % of Indians are asking this question as they think that wearing helmet is an extra burden along with other burdens they carry in their daily life.
People give lots of explanation for not wearing helmet while riding bike. In spite of hearing /reading all those accident incidents in news, bike riders
still say no to helmet. Some think riding bike is adventures and exciting with no helmet, for some it's highly irritating, some thinks that carrying helmet
wherever they go is highly impossible. They have seen loss of life due to accidents which could have avoided by wearing helmet and suffering of
accident victim's family only in news paper. I just wish that no one experience loss of life especially due to ignorance.

In tropical countries if we stuck in traffic it's difficult and we should suffer all these heat and sweat. To avoid that plan your office timing, look for
peak hours and start from home earlier which will help to avoid traffic to some extent.
We can do nothing for unconditional roads rather than waiting for the government to solve the problem. In that case we should drive carefully in
optimum speed.
Face shield in helmet gets affected by road dust, pollution, rain, heat; and gives blurred vision. So change the face shield or helmet itself as it is not
safe to wear blurred vision helmet while driving.
Driving faster is not fun and it is hazardous to you as well as to others. Carrying helmet is bit difficult but losing life is even more difficult. Keep in
mind. Short or long trips helmet is must , we can't say only long trips get into accident. We don't know what will happen the very next moment, so

The Dangers of Not Following Traffic Laws
Driving is one of most dangerous things you will ever do. Driving remains the number one cause of death in the United States. Drivers put themselves
and others at risk every time they get behind the wheel of their vehicle. The dangers increase when drivers fail to following traffic laws such as
drinking and driving, speeding or texting while driving their vehicle. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege. You must follow traffic laws and
demonstrate your ability to drive safely and cautiously on the roads. It is your own responsibility to be a safe and careful driver, not only for
yourself but for other drivers you share the road with. If you fail to follow traffic laws you are not only putting yourself in a dangerous situation, you
are putting others in danger as well. You also take the chance of traffic fines, having your license suspended or revoked or even worse, death.
Traffic Laws:
Traffic laws are designed and applied for your safety. They allow orderly and safe commutes between destinations. Traffic laws may be enforced by
tickets, fines and even jail time for major violations such has driving under the influence. Road safety is important and by knowing the rules and
practicing good driving skills, you help play a vital role in avoiding a crash. Speed limit laws are the most common traffic law in place. They let drivers
know how fast or how slow they may drive in

Vehicle Safety Essay
In the recent years, the United States government has been enforcing stricter mandates on auto manufacturers to create safer vehicles, and on
construction companies to create safer roadways. Matthew Jensen wrote a dissertation for the Graduate School of Clemson University titled, A
Methodology for the Analysis of In–vehicle Operating Data and Design of Intelligent Vehicle Systems for Improved Automotive Safety. In his abstract,
Jensen evaluated the future of vehicle manufacturing and traffic–related incidents. Of course, every year more vehicles are manufactured, which in
theory means the number of miles driven in vehicles increases. He points out how the World Health Organization (WHO) found that automobile
crashes was the ninth...show more content...

of safe driving is the human–vehicle interface (HVI), very similar to the human computer interface/ interaction (HCI). HVI is used to produce sounds,
visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction
environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means of receiving feedback are visual. Since the
introduction of HVI "the cost for real–time control systems decreases" and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve
decision–making response time (Jensen).
The article describes three formats of in–vehicle feedback; visual, haptic, and audio. Each of the three formats to be broke down into various systems
and functions. Very similar to a database containing tables, rows, and attributes. In the visual table, there are four rows one of which is the dashboard.
The dashboard contains several aids including gauges, on–board diagnostics, GPS, and lamps. The haptic table contains the break/ throttle row, were

Safe Driving Research Paper
Obeying the traffic laws and safe driving isn't easy when many people on the road don't share your mind–set. You make an effort to allow a safe
following distance only to have a tailgater negate this by following you too closely. How do you deal with aggressive tailgaters without becoming
aggressive yourself? Here are five suggestions: Don't Get Drawn into the Aggressive Driving "Game" While getting some revenge may seem
tempting, the other driver will simply respond in kind. The end result is an unpleasant and dangerous road battle that could end in your being
arrested or getting into a car crash. The chances are good that the tailgater has been an aggressive driver for a very long time. Don't be like him.
Allow the Tailgater to Pass If you're in the passing lane of a multilane highway, signal, and pull into the right lane. Use the left lane for passing only. If

This decreases your risk of the tailgater rear ending you. When increasing your distance, slow down gradually by letting up on the gas somewhat
so that you don't surprise the tailgater. Slowing down too rapidly may also cause the tailgater to misinterpret this as an aggressive gesture. Don't
Tap the Brake Pedal While this might cause the tailgater to back off, the effect is only temporary and may make the person angry. In addition, he
will ignore further brake tapping on your part, even when your braking is real. This can set you up for a rear end accident. Pull over to the Side
When There Are No Passing Zones Both the tailgater and you want the same thing. He's not enjoying the experience any more than you are. If the
road has no passing zones, pull over where it's safe to do so, and allow the tailgater to pass. Failing to do this may tempt him to pass you on a blind
curve, and endanger both of you. Remember to signal before pulling

In recent years, the country as a whole has become more conscious and aware of health and safety. From dieting and exercise, to putting in new
laws to prevent accidents and drug use, society is making an effort to make cities and their citizens feel more secure. That's why some believe that
the driving age should be made older. However, recent studies are showing that that make not be the solution to the problem of the many fatal
injuries sustained by teenage drivers. The solution seems to be an obvious one: keep teens off the road, and eliminate teen crashes. This looks to be a
sound argument, as according to "Traffic Safety Facts," 12 percent of all fatal crashes were young drivers. Not just fatal crashes, though, as the article

Motor Vehicle Safety
Motor accidents are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States. In the year 2000 the National Highway TrafпЃc Safety
Administration (NHTSA) estimated that around 41,000 people were killed in traffic accidents within the United States. This mortality rate has since
dropped 25% from 2000 to 2009 (Rockett et al., 2012). There are many reasons for motor vehicle injuries, ranging from lack of seat belt use, elderly
drivers, alcohol and young children being improperly secured. All of these things factor into motor injuries differently and must be addressed as a
separate problem. Highway safety is an important issue in public health and many things have already been implemented to help reduce...show more

ASAP has led the way for many alcohol programs to follow including many citizen organized programs. Programs such as Remove Intoxicated Drivers
(RID) in 1978 and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in 1980. These programs were created by people personally affected by a accident
caused by drunk driving. Their focus is to prevent the loss of loved ones for other families. These programs educate the public on the risks of DUI
and promote safer driving and smarter choices. MADD has even received support from alcohol companies because of their focus on the offender, and
not blaming the alcohol companies. Alcohol related highway fatalities in 1982 were at 57% of all fatalities. This number dropped to only 38% by 1999.

children help to reduce serious injury by up to 70% in an accident. (Anderson & Rice, 2009) Simply restraining the child with a seatbelt though is
not enough. For children under the age of 5, child safety seats are far more effective then seat belts at preventing injuries in a crash. Until the child is
old enough or tall enough to use a seat belt child safety seats are far superior then seat belts. It is up to the parent or guardian to ensure

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay
Problem Statement:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading cause of death in children aged 13 and under
[1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents,
improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being
incorrectly fastened to their car seats could possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of concern
due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened
in a federally–approved child passenger restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many families
do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90%
were using car seats. Of these, only 60% were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using booster
seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that approximately 70%– 80% of families are using their...show more content...
Often, the improper use of the car seat is a result of parental error when strapping the child in, which results in errors such as the straps being too slack
or too tight, and the buckle of the harness not being completely latched. Thus, the goal of this design is to prevent this parental error while strapping
children into their child restraint

Road Safety: Intersections Essay
Introduction
In modern days, society is entrusted with the responsibility of using one of the most accessible pieces of potentially dangerous pieces of machinery.
With the rates of injuries and fatalities caused by vehicles continuously increasing, it has become the role of engineers to evaluate and improve the
measures taken to prevent further damage. One major aspect of road safety is intersections, where the possibility of collisions is very high. 20% of all
accidents occur within 100m intersections (K.W Ogden, 2001). The intersection that will be discussed in this report is the Broadwater Rd and
Newnham Rd intersection at Wishart. This intersection is subjected to steep inclines and in some cases sight distance was largely hindered,...show more

Madden, 2007). It will be assumed in further discussion that friction is the only resistance force acting on vehicles to allow negative acceleration.
Also, other resistance forces such as air resistance will be neglected. The process of braking begins with applying force to the brake pedal,
eventuating to brake pads in the front wheels generating friction with the rotor and brake shoes in the rear wheels generating friction with the drum
(How Car Brake Works, 2012). As friction opposes motion, the spinning components are brought to rest by converting kinetic energy to heat energy.
The pressure with which the brake pads and shoes act, dictate whether the vehicle negatively accelerates due to static or sliding friction. When
different sections of the wheel are in contact with the road, it is regarded as static friction (Logbook pg2). Conversely, if only one section of the
wheel is in contact with the road, it is regarded as sliding friction. The coefficient of friction increase with the resistance of the surfaces to move past
each other, thus; the coefficient of sliding friction is less than that of static friction (Townsend, 2002). This drop in the friction acting against the motion
of the vehicle locks its brakes, making it very difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, the anti–locking
brake system is a standard safety feature in most vehicles (Royal Automobile Club of

Essay on Road Accidents !! Lack of road–sense has further complicated the matters. Driving licenses are given on illegal gratifications to the
authorities and traffic rules and regulations are thrown to the winds. Overloading is one of the major factors of road– accidents and deaths. The
condition of the vehicles is hardly found road–worthy. The unmanned railway level–crossings further add to the chaos and confusion. The multiplicity

Causes of Accidents The elite and rich drivers often use their mobile phones while being on the move in their cars. This results in accidents and
crashes. These phones have added further to the already worsening situation of road deaths and accidents. Driving and using the mobile phone
simultaneously may cause loss of control of the vehicle or concentration needed in safe and sane driving. To prevent these accidents, it is imperative
that effective long and short term measures are immediately taken. Road safety should be a compulsory school subject. Roads should be properly
maintained any looked after. There should be multi–lane roads wherever necessary. There should be separate tracks for slow moving vehicles from
those of fast and very fast moving vehicles. There should be an effective check on speed of the vehicles. Radar guns can be used to check the speed.
Violation of traffic rules should be strictly dealt with. Grant of driving licenses and permits to vehicles should be properly streamlined. Those driving
under the influence of drugs and alcohol should be given exemplary punishment and their licenses cancelled. There should be heavy fines as well
besides imprisonment. Road tax should be increased as a measure to reduce vehicle population on the roads. People should be encouraged, to use
public transport system instead of their own cars etc. particularly when they are single. They can 'also pool

Persuasive Essay On Road Safety
Someone once said, " Safety isn't expensive, it's priceless." This means people should be teaching everyone about safety because it is free. People
should take advantage of these free opportunities. Young children that are not informed of safety are getting killed by vehicles because they do not
understand road safety. According to the Auto Channel website in the year of 1999, 733 children under the age of 14 died from accidents with cars.
Also, in the year of 2000, nearly 44,600 children were treated in hospital emergency rooms for pedestrian related injuries.
The background of the issue is that children are not being educated the correct way about cars, road intersections, lights, road signs and many other
informing things that they need to know. As said before in the year of 2000, nearly 44,600 children were affected by this issue. This is a problem
that we can fix. The number will not go all the way to zero because because things happens that we can not control, but the number will go down if
we control the things we can control. If 733 children die under the age of 14 due to an accident, say each of them have four family members give
or take some, that is a total of about 3,000 people being affected by those people being killed. Those numbers do not include the extended family of
these people and the people who went to school with the child who was passed away. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are affected by
the deaths of children who die from pedestrian accidents. Children dying is an urgent problem. Parents never should receive a call saying that their
child has been hit by a car, because they ran out in front of the vehicle. This is a problem that needs to be fixed. When people think about this issue,
they should think about safety town. They should think that a safety town will slove the issue. Safety town will be though of a place to inform
children about roads and road signs. People will image a safe place that is saving children's lives, by informing them. There would be a conflict of
bringing a safety town to Saginaw because some people may believe that it is not going to help and they children are still going to be getting hit by
vehicles. The people who do

Along with accidents not only comes a little headache or a broken bone, but injuries that stay with you forever such as whiplash and brain damage.
Most brain damage incidents occur when you are involved in a side impact collision and the side of your head hits the glass (brain injury). Side
impact airbags are just one of the many ways in which this type of life threatening injury can be avoided (whiplash). There is also whiplash, which
hurls your head violently, and usually results in long term disability. Since whiplash is so hard to avoid, it can only be avoided by reducing the
number of accidents on the streets. Also one of the most painful and most traumatizing injuries that we encounter in accidents are bone fractures, which
occur in 65% of all accidents (Bush 11). So in turn by making these cars safer we can all avoid these painful, traumatizing, life–threatening injuries.
Seat belts although they are the most effective safety device on cars must be made safer. Out of all people who died in car accidents, 63% of those
were not wearing seat belts (seatbelts). This goes to show you the effectiveness of seat belt. Therefore automotive manufactures must mandate the
installation of 5–point seatbelt on all cars. In all major race car organization such as NASCAR (National Association Stock Car Automotive Racing)
they require these 5–point seat belt. Which is nothing more than a seatbelt that is buckled in 5 spots rather that the conventional 3.

Safe Driving Essay
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know
exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic
accidents in adults' eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some
type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students
really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road. The course gives teens a...show

This shows that teens do not take driving seriously and also do not realize what can happen to them if they continue with bad driving habits. In fact,
insurance rates are high enough as it is for teens now. If they get into a car accident, the insurance rates will sky rocket, their parents may have a
hard time being able to afford the insurance. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of fatalities for teens. As stated in a magazine, "Drivers ages 16 to
19 are four times more than likely than older drivers to crash" (Brophy). This quote shows that teen drivers are involved in more traffic accidents
then older drivers. It has much to do with the young drivers not being safe and making horrible choices while they are driving or in the car with
another person. If teens engage in the driving education course, they will definitely become more knowledgeable about all the safe ways to drive
when their parents do not have to ride with them anymore. Teen drivers are involved in many car accidents due to unsafe driving habits. A course on
safe driving will give the young driver behind the wheel more experience. The second reason that teens should attend a driver's education course, is to
give the teen driver actual experience behind the wheel. Parents are mostly

Essay On Traffic Safety

  • 1. Essay on Traffic Safety Traffic Safety The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as "the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property"–a traffic and not a criminal offense like road rage. Examples include speeding or driving too fast for conditions, improper lane changing, tailgating and improper passing. Approximately 6,800,000 crashes occur in the United States each year; a substantial number are estimated to be caused by aggressive driving. 1997 statistics compiled by NHTSA and the American Automobile Association show that almost 13,000 people have been injured or killed since 1990 in crashes caused by aggressive driving. According to a NHTSA survey, more ...show more content... NHTSA research shows that compliance with, and support for, traffic laws can be increased through aggressive, targeted enforcement combined with a vigorous public information and education program. When Maryland launched its "Aggressive Driver Campaign" in 1995, with an emphasis on public information, education and enforcement, the media and the public praised the state police for their efforts. The public's perception was that the police were "out there to catch the other guy." Related fatalities have declined dramatically. According to State Farm Insurance, the number of drivers on the road is increasing. In 1990, an estimated 91 percent of people drove to work, and commuters in one–third of the largest cities spent well over 40 hours a year in traffic jams. The Traffic Law Enforcement Division anticipates and responds to the needs, and develops innovative products that law enforcement will seek and use to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, and injuries. Collaborating with law enforcement, prioritizing program delivery, marketing, expanding partnerships, and establishing new partnerships, technology, and research accomplish this. They now have a Pursuit Seminar for Law Enforcement Driver Trainers program. The focus of the seminar is to address legal and operational vehicular pursuit training issues that include identifying factors to consider when initiating, conducting and terminating a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Road Safety On the way to work or school today did you wear your seatbelt? If not you were risking you life. Not wearing your seatbelt increases your risk of being killed or critically injured in car crashes exponentially. Although some people find seatbelts uncomfortable, seat belts decrease death in car crashes, allow the car's safety features to perform more efficiently, and saves lives The first reason that not wearing a seatbelt should be illegal is that seatbelts decrease death in car crashes. Although there are laws that state people have to wear seatbelts, 11.5% of people in America don't (Jensen). With the combination of low gas prices and cars getting better gas milage more people are getting on roads causing more crashes (Korosec). The number of total registered vehicles from the years 1960 to 2017 has increased by a whopping 189,178,419 (Number of U.S. Aircraft, vehicles, vessels and other conveyances). In 2014, about 2,000 less people died in a car accident than 2017 (Number of U.S. Aircraft, vehicles, vessels and other conveyance). In 2015 the number of people that were killed in a crash was 35,092 (National Highway Traffic Safety Association). The United States has the most deaths due to car crashes than any other advantageous country (Chen). In countries with high income, the United States has the highest "Death per 100,00 people" and "Per 10,000 registered vehicles"(Chen). According to a congressional speech from Jeffrey W. Runge, "95% of vehicles related deaths were Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Speech On Road Safety 90 % of Indians are asking this question as they think that wearing helmet is an extra burden along with other burdens they carry in their daily life. People give lots of explanation for not wearing helmet while riding bike. In spite of hearing /reading all those accident incidents in news, bike riders still say no to helmet. Some think riding bike is adventures and exciting with no helmet, for some it's highly irritating, some thinks that carrying helmet wherever they go is highly impossible. They have seen loss of life due to accidents which could have avoided by wearing helmet and suffering of accident victim's family only in news paper. I just wish that no one experience loss of life especially due to ignorance. Every year around 1.2 billion people had been into accident in which half of accidents are bike related. In tropical countries if we stuck in traffic it's difficult and we should suffer all these heat and sweat. To avoid that plan your office timing, look for peak hours and start from home earlier which will help to avoid traffic to some extent. We can do nothing for unconditional roads rather than waiting for the government to solve the problem. In that case we should drive carefully in optimum speed. Face shield in helmet gets affected by road dust, pollution, rain, heat; and gives blurred vision. So change the face shield or helmet itself as it is not safe to wear blurred vision helmet while driving. Driving faster is not fun and it is hazardous to you as well as to others. Carrying helmet is bit difficult but losing life is even more difficult. Keep in mind. Short or long trips helmet is must , we can't say only long trips get into accident. • 5. The Dangers Of Not Following Traffic Laws Laci Richey Cause Number: T03513–16–05 July 1, 2016 The Dangers of Not Following Traffic Laws Driving is one of most dangerous things you will ever do. Driving remains the number one cause of death in the United States. Drivers put themselves and others at risk every time they get behind the wheel of their vehicle. The dangers increase when drivers fail to following traffic laws such as drinking and driving, speeding or texting while driving their vehicle. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege. You must follow traffic laws and demonstrate your ability to drive safely and cautiously on the roads. It is your own responsibility to be a safe and careful driver, not only for yourself but for other drivers you share the road with. If you fail to follow traffic laws you are not only putting yourself in a dangerous situation, you are putting others in danger as well. You also take the chance of traffic fines, having your license suspended or revoked or even worse, death. Traffic Laws: Traffic laws are designed and applied for your safety. They allow orderly and safe commutes between destinations. Traffic laws may be enforced by tickets, fines and even jail time for major violations such has driving under the influence. Road safety is important and by knowing the rules and practicing good driving skills, you help play a vital role in avoiding a crash. Speed limit laws are the most common traffic law in place. They let drivers know how fast or how slow they may drive in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Vehicle Safety Essay In the recent years, the United States government has been enforcing stricter mandates on auto manufacturers to create safer vehicles, and on construction companies to create safer roadways. Matthew Jensen wrote a dissertation for the Graduate School of Clemson University titled, A Methodology for the Analysis of In–vehicle Operating Data and Design of Intelligent Vehicle Systems for Improved Automotive Safety. In his abstract, Jensen evaluated the future of vehicle manufacturing and traffic–related incidents. Of course, every year more vehicles are manufactured, which in theory means the number of miles driven in vehicles increases. More recently developers to begin using accelerometer and global positional systems (GPS) to provide feedback to the driver (Jensen). Yet another critical component of safe driving is the human–vehicle interface (HVI), very similar to the human computer interface/ interaction (HCI). HVI is used to produce sounds, visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means of receiving feedback are visual. Since the introduction of HVI "the cost for real–time control systems decreases" and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve decision–making response time (Jensen). The article describes three formats of in–vehicle feedback; visual, haptic, and audio. Each of the three formats to be broke down into various systems and functions. Very similar to a database containing tables, rows, and attributes. In the visual table, there are four rows one of which is the dashboard. The dashboard contains several aids including gauges, on–board diagnostics, GPS, and lamps. The haptic table contains the break/ throttle row, were pedal pulsation will notify the operator of activated antilock–brakes or traction control. Jensen Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Safe Driving Research Paper Obeying the traffic laws and safe driving isn't easy when many people on the road don't share your mind–set. You make an effort to allow a safe following distance only to have a tailgater negate this by following you too closely. How do you deal with aggressive tailgaters without becoming aggressive yourself? Here are five suggestions: Don't Get Drawn into the Aggressive Driving "Game" While getting some revenge may seem tempting, the other driver will simply respond in kind. The end result is an unpleasant and dangerous road battle that could end in your being arrested or getting into a car crash. The chances are good that the tailgater has been an aggressive driver for a very long time. Don't be like him. Allow the Tailgater to Pass If you're in the passing lane of a multilane highway, signal, and pull into the right lane. Use the left lane for passing only. If you're on a two lane...show more content... This decreases your risk of the tailgater rear ending you. When increasing your distance, slow down gradually by letting up on the gas somewhat so that you don't surprise the tailgater. Slowing down too rapidly may also cause the tailgater to misinterpret this as an aggressive gesture. Don't Tap the Brake Pedal While this might cause the tailgater to back off, the effect is only temporary and may make the person angry. In addition, he will ignore further brake tapping on your part, even when your braking is real. This can set you up for a rear end accident. Pull over to the Side When There Are No Passing Zones Both the tailgater and you want the same thing. He's not enjoying the experience any more than you are. If the road has no passing zones, pull over where it's safe to do so, and allow the tailgater to pass. Failing to do this may tempt him to pass you on a blind curve, and endanger both of you. Remember to signal before pulling Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. In recent years, the country as a whole has become more conscious and aware of health and safety. From dieting and exercise, to putting in new laws to prevent accidents and drug use, society is making an effort to make cities and their citizens feel more secure. That's why some believe that the driving age should be made older. However, recent studies are showing that that make not be the solution to the problem of the many fatal injuries sustained by teenage drivers. The solution seems to be an obvious one: keep teens off the road, and eliminate teen crashes. This looks to be a sound argument, as according to "Traffic Safety Facts," 12 percent of all fatal crashes were young drivers. Not just fatal crashes, though, as the article goes on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Motor Vehicle Safety Essays Motor Vehicle Safety Motor accidents are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States. In the year 2000 the National Highway TrafпЃc Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that around 41,000 people were killed in traffic accidents within the United States. This mortality rate has since dropped 25% from 2000 to 2009 (Rockett et al., 2012). There are many reasons for motor vehicle injuries, ranging from lack of seat belt use, elderly drivers, alcohol and young children being improperly secured. All of these things factor into motor injuries differently and must be addressed as a separate problem. Highway safety is an important issue in public health and many things have already been implemented to help reduce...show more content... Programs such as Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID) in 1978 and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in 1980. These programs were created by people personally affected by a accident caused by drunk driving. Their focus is to prevent the loss of loved ones for other families. These programs educate the public on the risks of DUI and promote safer driving and smarter choices. MADD has even received support from alcohol companies because of their focus on the offender, and not blaming the alcohol companies. Alcohol related highway fatalities in 1982 were at 57% of all fatalities. This number dropped to only 38% by 1999. In 2005 vehicle crashes were a leading cause of injury and death for children over the age of one. 510 children 3 years or younger were killed in a highway accidents in 2005.Proper restraint for children must be used until they have reached the recommend height. Child restraint systems for children help to reduce serious injury by up to 70% in an accident. (Anderson & Rice, 2009) Simply restraining the child with a seatbelt though is not enough. For children under the age of 5, child safety seats are far more effective then seat belts at preventing injuries in a crash. Until the child is old enough or tall enough to use a seat belt child safety seats are far superior then seat belts. It is up to the parent or guardian to ensure Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Motor Vehicle Safety Essay Problem Statement: Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally–approved child passenger restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60% were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using booster seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that approximately 70%– 80% of families are using their...show more content... • 11. Road Safety: Intersections Essay Introduction In modern days, society is entrusted with the responsibility of using one of the most accessible pieces of potentially dangerous pieces of machinery. With the rates of injuries and fatalities caused by vehicles continuously increasing, it has become the role of engineers to evaluate and improve the measures taken to prevent further damage. One major aspect of road safety is intersections, where the possibility of collisions is very high. 20% of all accidents occur within 100m intersections (K.W Ogden, 2001). The intersection that will be discussed in this report is the Broadwater Rd and Newnham Rd intersection at Wishart. This intersection is subjected to steep inclines and in some cases sight distance was largely hindered,...show more content... Madden, 2007). It will be assumed in further discussion that friction is the only resistance force acting on vehicles to allow negative acceleration. Also, other resistance forces such as air resistance will be neglected. The process of braking begins with applying force to the brake pedal, eventuating to brake pads in the front wheels generating friction with the rotor and brake shoes in the rear wheels generating friction with the drum (How Car Brake Works, 2012). As friction opposes motion, the spinning components are brought to rest by converting kinetic energy to heat energy. The pressure with which the brake pads and shoes act, dictate whether the vehicle negatively accelerates due to static or sliding friction. When different sections of the wheel are in contact with the road, it is regarded as static friction (Logbook pg2). Conversely, if only one section of the wheel is in contact with the road, it is regarded as sliding friction. The coefficient of friction increase with the resistance of the surfaces to move past each other, thus; the coefficient of sliding friction is less than that of static friction (Townsend, 2002). This drop in the friction acting against the motion of the vehicle locks its brakes, making it very difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, the anti–locking brake system is a standard safety feature in most vehicles (Royal Automobile Club of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Causes of Accidents The elite and rich drivers often use their mobile phones while being on the move in their cars. This results in accidents and crashes. These phones have added further to the already worsening situation of road deaths and accidents. Driving and using the mobile phone simultaneously may cause loss of control of the vehicle or concentration needed in safe and sane driving. To prevent these accidents, it is imperative that effective long and short term measures are immediately taken. Road safety should be a compulsory school subject. • 14. Persuasive Essay On Road Safety Someone once said, " Safety isn't expensive, it's priceless." This means people should be teaching everyone about safety because it is free. People should take advantage of these free opportunities. Young children that are not informed of safety are getting killed by vehicles because they do not understand road safety. According to the Auto Channel website in the year of 1999, 733 children under the age of 14 died from accidents with cars. Also, in the year of 2000, nearly 44,600 children were treated in hospital emergency rooms for pedestrian related injuries. The background of the issue is that children are not being educated the correct way about cars, road intersections, lights, road signs and many other informing things that they need to know. As said before in the year of 2000, nearly 44,600 children were affected by this issue. This is a problem that we can fix. The number will not go all the way to zero because because things happens that we can not control, but the number will go down if we control the things we can control. If 733 children die under the age of 14 due to an accident, say each of them have four family members give or take some, that is a total of about 3,000 people being affected by those people being killed. Those numbers do not include the extended family of these people and the people who went to school with the child who was passed away. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are affected by the deaths of children who die from pedestrian accidents. Children dying is an urgent problem. Parents never should receive a call saying that their child has been hit by a car, because they ran out in front of the vehicle. This is a problem that needs to be fixed. When people think about this issue, they should think about safety town. They should think that a safety town will slove the issue. Safety town will be though of a place to inform children about roads and road signs. People will image a safe place that is saving children's lives, by informing them. There would be a conflict of bringing a safety town to Saginaw because some people may believe that it is not going to help and they children are still going to be getting hit by vehicles. • 15. Essay on Car Safety Car Safety Automobile Safety It's a dark rainy night. You and your family are coming home from a late night family party. As a car is coming through an intersection another car cut in front of it. The driver decides to hit the brakes so you can avoid the car, but as he presses the brakes, the car loses control on the slick wet road. He is not able to gain control and at that point he has endangered the lives of himself and many others on the road. This is just one example of the many types of things that occur in our streets everyday. All that would have been needed to avoid this situation would have been a traction control system in his car, which would have detected that the car was skidding and would have applied the brakes to...show more content... Along with accidents not only comes a little headache or a broken bone, but injuries that stay with you forever such as whiplash and brain damage. Most brain damage incidents occur when you are involved in a side impact collision and the side of your head hits the glass (brain injury). Side impact airbags are just one of the many ways in which this type of life threatening injury can be avoided (whiplash). There is also whiplash, which hurls your head violently, and usually results in long term disability. Since whiplash is so hard to avoid, it can only be avoided by reducing the number of accidents on the streets. Also one of the most painful and most traumatizing injuries that we encounter in accidents are bone fractures, which occur in 65% of all accidents (Bush 11). So in turn by making these cars safer we can all avoid these painful, traumatizing, life–threatening injuries. Seat belts although they are the most effective safety device on cars must be made safer. Out of all people who died in car accidents, 63% of those were not wearing seat belts (seatbelts). This goes to show you the effectiveness of seat belt. Therefore automotive manufactures must mandate the installation of 5–point seatbelt on all cars. In all major race car organization such as NASCAR (National Association Stock Car Automotive Racing) they require these 5–point seat belt. Which is nothing more than a seatbelt that is buckled in 5 spots rather that the conventional 3. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Safe Driving Essay Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults' eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road. The course gives teens a...show more content... This shows that teens do not take driving seriously and also do not realize what can happen to them if they continue with bad driving habits. In fact, insurance rates are high enough as it is for teens now. If they get into a car accident, the insurance rates will sky rocket, their parents may have a hard time being able to afford the insurance. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of fatalities for teens. As stated in a magazine, "Drivers ages 16 to 19 are four times more than likely than older drivers to crash" (Brophy). This quote shows that teen drivers are involved in more traffic accidents then older drivers. It has much to do with the young drivers not being safe and making horrible choices while they are driving or in the car with another person. If teens engage in the driving education course, they will definitely become more knowledgeable about all the safe ways to drive when their parents do not have to ride with them anymore. Teen drivers are involved in many car accidents due to unsafe driving habits. A course on safe driving will give the young driver behind the wheel more experience. The second reason that teens should attend a driver's education course, is to give the teen driver actual experience behind the wheel. Parents are mostly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
