Counterterrorism Model Effectiveness
Effectiveness of the counterterrorism model
After the 9/11 attacks, the reports of Alā€“Qaeda attacking the United States directly have been minimized. Development of the intelligence sharing has
led to open sharing of information where terrorists can be easily tracked. The wiretapping of phone calls, for example, has led to the tracking of
terrorist activities. The greatest achievement of the intelligence post the 9/11 attacks was the followā€“up of Alā€“Qaeda`s leader Osama bin Laden. By
killing the group's leader, the US achieved partial deactivation of the group although it wasn`t dismantled as its effects are still evident in the Islamic
world (Lawrence 2006) .
The openness and sharing of information have also eased the US security system as...show more content...
Once the government defeats the terrorist group and takes over a certain region, they have taken it as an initiative to educate the public on the essence
of peace while disproving the Alā€“Qaeda`s Jihadists' beliefs. This has proven effective in areas like Iraq for example especially after the arrest of Sad
am Hussein when peace was declared in the region. Although the winning troops do not spend as much tome in the locality, their actions have proven
effective not only by changing people`s approach to terrorism but also by affecting their way of thinking in a positive

Terrorism ā€“ is there any working global frameworks to counter it?
By Zuzanna Sadowska
On the 22nd of September 2003 Kofi Annan, UN Secretaryā€“General, organized a conference "Fighting Terrorism for Humanity" in New York City. He
opened the summit with words: "Terrorism will only be defeated if we act to solve the political disputes or longā€“standing conflicts that generate
support for it. (...) If we do not, we should find ourselves acting as recruiting sergeants for the very terrorists. We have to win hearts and minds." The
causes of terrorism may be inter alia historical, economical, religious or ideological, and there is no way to entirely eliminate it from our world.
Preventing terrorism needs complete understanding of the phenomenon and...show more content...
"In spite of this, or just for that reason, all attempts to develop a definition of terrorism that would meet methodological criteria required in such
circumstances and would be acceptable by the politicians, scientists and lawyers, thus the environments declaring the need for it for many years, ended
up with failure so far. The reason is not an incompetence of people taking these attempts but excessive politicization and treatment not only
manifestations of terrorism, but also "circumstances surrounding" (in this case: the definition), in terms of political or ideological struggle with real
and even imaginary enemy" ā€“ Krzysztof Karolczak notes in his book.
The Polish penal code there is no such a word as "terrorism". The legislature did not want to define the concept, being afraid of related problems.
Instead of that, the description focused on terrorismā€“related offenses, which are called the crimes of a terrorist nature. These are prohibited acts
punishable by imprisonment of a maximum of at least five years, committed in order to:
1) serious intimidation a lot of people,
2) compel a public authority of the Republic of Poland or another state or an organ of an international organization to perform or abstain certain actions,
3) cause serious disturbances in the system or economy of Poland, another state or international organization ā€“ as well as threats to commit such an act.
Article 165a, in turn, refers to the financing of terrorism: "Who

Evolution Vs Macroevolution Research Paper
Evolution is the scientific theory that all life forms came from ancient ancestors. Humans today show a great amount of diversity such as natural
selection, migration, and mutations. Microevolution is a change in a living creature that happens within the same species, while macroevolution is
with living creatures evolving to a different form of species. Charles Darwin was one of the first scientists to form some type of a theory on evolution.
However, data sets such as; the geological column, fossil record, and structural homology, all prove that evolution is just a theory. The geological
column is a classification system that is made up of creatures that over time fossilized. In theory one can dig up a fossil and guess around what time it
was alive. Exploring Creation with Biology, says Charles Darwin believed that because he found more "complex" lifeforms on the top of the
geological column, that life was evolving like macroevolution states. (272) There is no way to...show more content...
The fossil record is a great example that disproves macroevolution. The fossil record, according to, Biologyā€“Online, "is the totality of fossilized
artifacts and their placement within the earth's rock strata. It provides information about the history of life on earth, for instance what the organisms
look like, where and when they live, how they evolved, etc." If creatures really did evolve over time we would be able to see one creature, change
into another by examining fossils. The fossils we examine have intermediate links and transitional forms. These are the records in between the
evolution of one creature to another. Paleontologists discover fossils all around the world, but still cannot prove the existence of evolution on creatures
from the past, because of the missing links that are brought up when comparing creatures for

Opposing Argument Analysis
The type of opposing argument that has been the most difficult to refute or encounter was on trying to put enough information into the outline to have
on the final essay. Also on trying to find good enough sources that relate to the topic that I was doing. I strategized this aspect on my paper by mostly
getting help for the outline from my individual tutor. I also got some help from the tutor on trying to find good sources or I eventually found some
useful sources to use. I basically just got help for the outline and sources that I was struggling with from the tutor or I eventually understood it. The
strongest point of my argument is

Counter-Strike Analysis Essays
COUNTERā€“STRIKE:
GRAB A WEAPON, THERE IS WORK TO DO
Intro
Never before has a multiplayer game blended all elements of true competition and sweatā€“soaked shirt anxiety as well as Counterā€“ Strike.
Counterā€“Strike is a tactical firstā€“person shooter video game which is based on a team of counter terrorists against a team of terrorists battling in series
of rounds, with rounds lasting four or five minutes, won by either completing a mission objective or eliminating the opposite force. Counterā€“Strike
grew from a fun diversion into a way of life, creating rhetorical communities that include gamers and people seeking nonā€“stop action in street style
combat. Counterā€“Strike reveals a fantasy theme that revolves around terrorism and...show more content...
Also, the environment textures look realistic enough and complement the provided camouflage well enough for you to be hidden, but not be invisible.
As in real life, CS captures all aspects of a real combat from the distinguishable differences between good guy and bad gay to the realistic gun sounds.
It is the teamā€“based tactics that makes it so appealing to wide range of people in different culture. Working as a team is a must and taking the lone
wolf approach will often get you killed instantly. Teams must come up with different offensive and defensive strategies based on the situation and the
environment present. This is one of the most appealing portions of the game that creates a fantastic balance that keeps gamers and players coming back
for more.
Symbolic Cues CS is famous for its own culture created by players associated with the game. The team element is an important aspect of the game that
creates and unifies a language understood by the rhetorical community surrounding it. Relatively, this could only increase the number of symbolic cues
shared among players. Counterā€“Strike communities have a wide range of terms that only members of a certain group belonging to the CS nation can
identify and understand. Excessive Play of CS would result in different situations and scenarios that vary from one time to other. Therefore, players turn
to certain analogies and word codes to further simplify the situation on hand.

Example Of Counter Argument
In my opinion the counter arguments were phrased in a very oppressive manner resulting in me as a reader opposing their viewpoints rather then
supporting them. It gives America a false perception of a country that only seems to accept one language. A perfect example of an extremely decisive
quote was the quotation by Alan West. His insulation that America was on the road to hell because there was a commercial in other languages seems
fanatical. In relation to persuading the reader, I feel the author was rather successful. Throughout the article the author proposes two main choices, one
being diversity is beneficial to the country, while the other being English all the time or you have no place in the country. In my opinion I would support

The Unreliable Narrator Analysis
In this letter, the unreliable narrator had affected on showing its own unique perspective on the situation that happened between Christopher and father.
The narrator is Christopher himself in the letter, showing subjective opinion by focusing on the emotion he felt that explains inaccurately towards
certain situation. For instance, in this part, father revealed that he was a murderer of Wellington, and as Christopher does not understand the purpose
and reason why father became to commit it, and the harsh condition that the father also suffered under. And Christopher only focuses on the fact that
his father killed the dog, which led him to the mind that father, will kill him soon. This affected the whole image and understanding of the letter

Control Orders: A Case Study
As the person conducting an impact assessment of their use, one would say that the legal problem that are face from the Control Orders is the human
rights organization and freedom rights of the people. Another problem that the Control Orders face is the terrorist recruiters use young kids to carry out
the terrorist attacks, so it would be harder to incarcerate. The Control Orders would be useful against suspected terrorist, "being in certain areas or
leaving Australia, owning or using certain things, accessing certain forms of technology, including the internet, communicating or associating with
certain people and carrying out certain activities, including work" (Department, 1995).

ASIO: A Case Study
As above demonstrates, this Act provides controversial, unusual and empowering duties to ASIO. The unusual and contentious background to this Act
is highlighted by the long debate prior to its enactment. This act took almost the longest in history to enactā€“ 15 months of parliamentary debate
occurred, and after such scrutiny, a sunset clause of 10 years was applied to the act. The Coalition government gave reasoning for this 10 year clause
as 'there was still a threat of terrorist attack and it was undesirable to distract ASIO from its operations any more frequently than necessary'. Others said
that terror is a 'is a longā€“term, generational threat' and the Australian citizens deserve to have protection from such threats. However, this threat

Counterargument Analysis
In my analysis I will take apart the main idea as well as the counterargument. First "Without newspapers, citizens will be deprived...) (5ā€“6) Ms. Finley
has quite a lot of facts easy to understand and that make the essay enjoyable to read and think about. The facts support her main point and begin with,
Lines (27ā€“31) "newspapers keep the public informed so that it can petition speak and write when dissatisfied can vote with adequate knowledge about
the candidates and issues and can understand their civic duties and responsibilities " This is the most important job that newspapers do, they teach us
about our candidates and how to fix local problems like plastic recycling. She uses our founding father, Lines (29ā€“31) Thomas Jefferson [who]

Counter Argument
I thought this article was very interesting and well argued. I learned a few things about drinks that I didn't know before, and I really enjoyed reading
it. It had a solid, evidenceā€“backed argument that was credible and made a lot of sense. However, Danielson neglected to address the counterā€“argument.
Had he stated the counterā€“argument of people not wanting to pay additional money for the same product, he could have rebutted it and made his
argument stronger. However, he never once mentioned a counterā€“argument, which consequently made his argument weaker. He also should have cited
the "strong evidence" that he mentioned in the very first sentence, as that would have helped strengthen his argument. However, he just mentions that
there is evidence,

Counterculture In The 1960s Research Paper
In the beginning of the 1960s, a new social movement emerged and greatly impacted America's popular culture. Hamilton describes said movement as a
counterculture, or a culture against the mainstream norm. Since Vietnam War journalism shattered America's perception of war, the general public
found itself retaliating against government authority and other conventional ways of thinking. Americans who adopted ideals from counterculture
began to advocate for experimentation in the arts, race equality, antiā€“war politics, and proā€“drug policies (Hamilton).
Decades proceeding the 1960s defined America as a purist and racist country that would have despised every single ideal counterculture endorsed.
Compared to the previous morals of America, counterculture

Counter Arguments
I completely agree with you on how we need to remain calmed and also very confident with our responses. A speaker should be prepared for any
counter arguments or different opinions because we all have very distinct beliefs. Your response was very wellā€“written and I liked how yo managed to
give exceptional examples and details. However, I feel that you do not fully complete the main idea of this discussion board, which was choosing three
different counter arguments that you may encounter when you are given your speech. I recommend you to list these three counter arguments and then
come up with an excellent response to them. I feel that overall, your work was extraordinary, keep up with the good

Terrorism Vs Counterterrorism
In the fight against global terrorism, the United States has emerged as the leader in the fight against transnational terrorism due to its standing as
world's lone superpower and the fact big target for attacks by terrorist groups. However, with that being said as powerful as the United States is and
with as many resources that it has at its disposal it to fight terrorism it still needs help from others. Nation states that are in regions were terrorists
wreak or have terrorist activity within their own borders are in a situation in which they would be able to help the United States in a substantial way by
providing a great deal of information and partnering up with the United States in the fight against terrorism. However, there are nations...show more

The funding of terrorist groups has been a big issue for United States counterterrorist policies because essentially what is happening is that terrorist
groups who receive funding from nation states not only have the desire to commit acts of terror but they now have the money and/or resources they
need to get whatever weapons such as guns, bombs and knifes that would enable them to commit whatever crimes that popped into their heads.
Additionally, even in situations in which terrorist groups are in nations that are antiā€“terrorist but have the resources available such as purchasing
certain items from stores to commit acts of terror from stores would allow terror groups to carry out their activities if they are not caught in time to
prevent them from carrying out their plans. Terrorists/terrorist groups that have the necessary resources to engage in terroristic activity makes the fight
against international terrorism that much more complicated because they would have similar resources to the counterterrorist forces, the United States
in particular and western nations in general. Hoffman, in reference to the amount of money per year Iran funded for various terrorists groups
mentions, "...Iran was alleged to have provided a total of about $100 million a year to various Islamic terrorist organizations across

Counternarratives: A Narrative Analysis
The foundation of this paper is situated in the (counter)narratives of three black female school leaders. A central tenet of CRT is to validate the
"voices" of people of color. Scholars of CRT in education argue that data collected of the stories told by educators in educational spaces of their
experience in recognizing and confronting "isms," be seen as valid (Ladsonā€“Billings & Tate, 1995; SolŠ“Ń–rzano & Bernal, 2001; SolŠ“Ń–rzano & Yosso,
2001, 2002b). Solorzano and Yosso (2002a) present five constructive uses of counternarratives or counter stories: (1) creates a community among those
at the margins of society; (2) challenges the ideological thinking of centerā€“wing members; (3) both discloses the existence of other possibilities and
unites communities with the same goals; (4) constructs...show more content...
156). In short, the primer for the multiple uses of counternarratives is to challenge the dominant language used against people of color. In addition,
according to SolŠ“Ń–rzano and Bernal (2001) the use of counternarrative can be threefold: (1) in theory, (2) in methodology, and (3) in pedagogy. In this
paper, I present how the three black female school principals shift their disposition away from the deficitā€“thinking terminology of the soā€“called
achievement gap interpretation towards an assetā€“based understanding of opportunity gap(s). This practice presents a counternarrative to the prevailing
discourse in educational circles of interpreting educational gaps that favors blaming the students. Lopez (2003) states "the counterstories of people of
color . . . are those stories that are not told, stories that are consciously and/or unconsciously ignored or downplayed because they do not fit socially
acceptable notions of truth (pp. 84ā€“85). Notions of truth provided by

Depressed Teen Therapy
It is extremely important that depressed teens receive prompt, professional treatment. Depression is serious and, if left untreated, can worsen to the
point of becoming lifeā€“threatening. If depressed teens refuse treatment, it may be necessary for family members or other concerned adults to seek
professional advice. Therapy can help teens understand why they are depressed and learn how to cope with stressful situations. Depending on the
situation, treatment may consist of individual, group or family counseling. Medications that can be prescribed by a psychiatrist may be necessary to
help teens feel

LAWS1111 SHORT EXERCISE
The statement that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist is not valid and this is because the differences between the two are far more
complex than perspective alone. The issue with perspective being the only distinction is in the difficulty to accurately define terrorism in a way
synonymous to describing the characteristics of a freedom fighter. In examining the characteristics of numerous definitions it becomes evident that
there is a distinction in the relationship which terrorists and freedom fighters have with civilians when carrying out their violent and politically
motivated goals.
In terms of methodology, both terrorists and freedom fighters employ violence however the distinction lies with

Counter-Argumentative Essay
In 2012, the Times (paywalled) ran a headline that was, for want of a better word, false. "Breivik played video games for a year to train for deadly
attacks". This headline is an outstanding example of the news media's quick reaction to Breivik's opening statement of his high profile trial. What the
press has failed to report however that is the direct quote from the yetā€“toā€“beā€“proven psychopathic serial killer responsible for the calculated
shootingā€“spree death of 77 Norwegian civilians in 2011. Not only do such headlines like these stir opinion and controversy, they do so based on
misguided information. This shocking approach to reporting such a tragic event with strong blame aimed at video games reā€“opens debates. Again, the
reporting of video games' correlation to violent events continues a tradition that had and continues to haunt the video game industry ever since more
graphic and realistic games entered the home, such as Midway's own Mortal Kombat in 1992 and Sega's Night Trap, 1993. It was these two titles
which were responsible for the enforcement of a rating system, finally settling in 1994. Later, in 1999 shortly following the Columbine High School

Counterā€“argument articles spawned quickly online, however, the articles trickled through newspaper opinion pieces. What was consistent, however,
was the blame on video games as a whole, rather than World of Warcraft or Modern Warfare as stand

shootings, it was video games as a whole that took a large part of the headlines, rather than the title Doom. This is seemingly unique, when compared
to the controversies surrounding the aforementioned book 'The Catcher in the Rye' and film 'A Clockwork Orange'. Perhaps as time progresses, so
too shall the entire medium of 'games' become broadly understood, as have 'books' and

What Was The Council Of Trent's Role
The Council of Trent played an important part in determining the outcome of the Counterā€“Reformation.
Along with the part played by the Jesuits and certain individuals, the Council of Trent was a central feature of the Counterā€“Reformation.
Whether Trent represented a positive move by the Catholic Church remains contentious.
Any long term change in the Catholic Church depended on the attitude of the pope in power at one particular time.
There were those popes who were the opposite and were truly interested in moving forward the Catholic Church such as Sixtus V. The Council of
Trent was called by Paul Ill who was pope from 1534 to 1549 and it first sat in December 1545.
His legates ensured that the pope's views would always be put forward

Here are a few key points of analysis regarding the unreliable narrator in this letter:- Perspective: Christopher narrates from his own limited perspective as a child. He does not fully understand his father's actions or the context around them. This makes his account narrow and potentially inaccurate. - Emotions over facts: Christopher focuses more on expressing his strong emotions of fear, confusion, and betrayal rather than objectively recounting the facts of what happened. His emotions color his interpretation.- Incompleteness: As an outsider to the full situation, Christopher does not have access to all relevant details that might provide greater context or explanation for his father's actions. His narration is incomplete.- Subjectivity

  • 1. Counterterrorism Model Effectiveness Effectiveness of the counterterrorism model After the 9/11 attacks, the reports of Alā€“Qaeda attacking the United States directly have been minimized. Development of the intelligence sharing has led to open sharing of information where terrorists can be easily tracked. The wiretapping of phone calls, for example, has led to the tracking of terrorist activities. The greatest achievement of the intelligence post the 9/11 attacks was the followā€“up of Alā€“Qaeda`s leader Osama bin Laden. By killing the group's leader, the US achieved partial deactivation of the group although it wasn`t dismantled as its effects are still evident in the Islamic world (Lawrence 2006) . The openness and sharing of information have also eased the US security system as...show more content... Once the government defeats the terrorist group and takes over a certain region, they have taken it as an initiative to educate the public on the essence of peace while disproving the Alā€“Qaeda`s Jihadists' beliefs. This has proven effective in areas like Iraq for example especially after the arrest of Sad am Hussein when peace was declared in the region. Although the winning troops do not spend as much tome in the locality, their actions have proven effective not only by changing people`s approach to terrorism but also by affecting their way of thinking in a positive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Terrorism ā€“ is there any working global frameworks to counter it? By Zuzanna Sadowska On the 22nd of September 2003 Kofi Annan, UN Secretaryā€“General, organized a conference "Fighting Terrorism for Humanity" in New York City. He opened the summit with words: "Terrorism will only be defeated if we act to solve the political disputes or longā€“standing conflicts that generate support for it. (...) If we do not, we should find ourselves acting as recruiting sergeants for the very terrorists. We have to win hearts and minds." The causes of terrorism may be inter alia historical, economical, religious or ideological, and there is no way to entirely eliminate it from our world. Preventing terrorism needs complete understanding of the phenomenon and...show more content... "In spite of this, or just for that reason, all attempts to develop a definition of terrorism that would meet methodological criteria required in such circumstances and would be acceptable by the politicians, scientists and lawyers, thus the environments declaring the need for it for many years, ended up with failure so far. The reason is not an incompetence of people taking these attempts but excessive politicization and treatment not only manifestations of terrorism, but also "circumstances surrounding" (in this case: the definition), in terms of political or ideological struggle with real and even imaginary enemy" ā€“ Krzysztof Karolczak notes in his book. The Polish penal code there is no such a word as "terrorism". The legislature did not want to define the concept, being afraid of related problems. Instead of that, the description focused on terrorismā€“related offenses, which are called the crimes of a terrorist nature. These are prohibited acts punishable by imprisonment of a maximum of at least five years, committed in order to: 1) serious intimidation a lot of people, 2) compel a public authority of the Republic of Poland or another state or an organ of an international organization to perform or abstain certain actions, 3) cause serious disturbances in the system or economy of Poland, another state or international organization ā€“ as well as threats to commit such an act. • 3. Evolution Vs Macroevolution Research Paper Evolution is the scientific theory that all life forms came from ancient ancestors. Humans today show a great amount of diversity such as natural selection, migration, and mutations. Microevolution is a change in a living creature that happens within the same species, while macroevolution is with living creatures evolving to a different form of species. Charles Darwin was one of the first scientists to form some type of a theory on evolution. However, data sets such as; the geological column, fossil record, and structural homology, all prove that evolution is just a theory. The geological column is a classification system that is made up of creatures that over time fossilized. In theory one can dig up a fossil and guess around what time it was alive. Exploring Creation with Biology, says Charles Darwin believed that because he found more "complex" lifeforms on the top of the geological column, that life was evolving like macroevolution states. (272) There is no way to...show more content... The fossil record is a great example that disproves macroevolution. The fossil record, according to, Biologyā€“Online, "is the totality of fossilized artifacts and their placement within the earth's rock strata. It provides information about the history of life on earth, for instance what the organisms look like, where and when they live, how they evolved, etc." If creatures really did evolve over time we would be able to see one creature, change into another by examining fossils. The fossils we examine have intermediate links and transitional forms. These are the records in between the evolution of one creature to another. Paleontologists discover fossils all around the world, but still cannot prove the existence of evolution on creatures from the past, because of the missing links that are brought up when comparing creatures for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Counterā€“Strike is a tactical firstā€“person shooter video game which is based on a team of counter terrorists against a team of terrorists battling in series of rounds, with rounds lasting four or five minutes, won by either completing a mission objective or eliminating the opposite force. As in real life, CS captures all aspects of a real combat from the distinguishable differences between good guy and bad gay to the realistic gun sounds. It is the teamā€“based tactics that makes it so appealing to wide range of people in different culture. Working as a team is a must and taking the lone wolf approach will often get you killed instantly. Teams must come up with different offensive and defensive strategies based on the situation and the environment present. This is one of the most appealing portions of the game that creates a fantastic balance that keeps gamers and players coming back for more. Symbolic Cues CS is famous for its own culture created by players associated with the game. The team element is an important aspect of the game that creates and unifies a language understood by the rhetorical community surrounding it. Relatively, this could only increase the number of symbolic cues shared among players. Excessive Play of CS would result in different situations and scenarios that vary from one time to other. • 6. Example Of Counter Argument In my opinion the counter arguments were phrased in a very oppressive manner resulting in me as a reader opposing their viewpoints rather then supporting them. It gives America a false perception of a country that only seems to accept one language. A perfect example of an extremely decisive quote was the quotation by Alan West. His insulation that America was on the road to hell because there was a commercial in other languages seems fanatical. In relation to persuading the reader, I feel the author was rather successful. Throughout the article the author proposes two main choices, one being diversity is beneficial to the country, while the other being English all the time or you have no place in the country. In my opinion I would support Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The narrator is Christopher himself in the letter, showing subjective opinion by focusing on the emotion he felt that explains inaccurately towards certain situation. For instance, in this part, father revealed that he was a murderer of Wellington, and as Christopher does not understand the purpose and reason why father became to commit it, and the harsh condition that the father also suffered under. And Christopher only focuses on the fact that his father killed the dog, which led him to the mind that father, will kill him soon. Control Orders: A Case Study As the person conducting an impact assessment of their use, one would say that the legal problem that are face from the Control Orders is the human rights organization and freedom rights of the people. Another problem that the Control Orders face is the terrorist recruiters use young kids to carry out the terrorist attacks, so it would be harder to incarcerate. The Control Orders would be useful against suspected terrorist, "being in certain areas or leaving Australia, owning or using certain things, accessing certain forms of technology, including the internet, communicating or associating with certain people and carrying out certain activities, including work" (Department, 1995). • 9. ASIO: A Case Study As above demonstrates, this Act provides controversial, unusual and empowering duties to ASIO. The unusual and contentious background to this Act is highlighted by the long debate prior to its enactment. This act took almost the longest in history to enactā€“ 15 months of parliamentary debate occurred, and after such scrutiny, a sunset clause of 10 years was applied to the act. The Coalition government gave reasoning for this 10 year clause as 'there was still a threat of terrorist attack and it was undesirable to distract ASIO from its operations any more frequently than necessary'. Others said that terror is a 'is a longā€“term, generational threat' and the Australian citizens deserve to have protection from such threats. However, this threat Get more content on HelpWriting.net

(5ā€“6) Ms. Finley has quite a lot of facts easy to understand and that make the essay enjoyable to read and think about. The facts support her main point and begin with, Lines (27ā€“31) "newspapers keep the public informed so that it can petition speak and write when dissatisfied can vote with adequate knowledge about the candidates and issues and can understand their civic duties and responsibilities " This is the most important job that newspapers do, they teach us about our candidates and how to fix local problems like plastic recycling. • 11. Counter Argument I thought this article was very interesting and well argued. I learned a few things about drinks that I didn't know before, and I really enjoyed reading it. It had a solid, evidenceā€“backed argument that was credible and made a lot of sense. However, Danielson neglected to address the counterā€“argument. Had he stated the counterā€“argument of people not wanting to pay additional money for the same product, he could have rebutted it and made his argument stronger. However, he never once mentioned a counterā€“argument, which consequently made his argument weaker. He also should have cited the "strong evidence" that he mentioned in the very first sentence, as that would have helped strengthen his argument. However, he just mentions that there is evidence, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Counterculture In The 1960s Research Paper In the beginning of the 1960s, a new social movement emerged and greatly impacted America's popular culture. Hamilton describes said movement as a counterculture, or a culture against the mainstream norm. Since Vietnam War journalism shattered America's perception of war, the general public found itself retaliating against government authority and other conventional ways of thinking. Americans who adopted ideals from counterculture began to advocate for experimentation in the arts, race equality, antiā€“war politics, and proā€“drug policies (Hamilton). Decades proceeding the 1960s defined America as a purist and racist country that would have despised every single ideal counterculture endorsed. • 14. Terrorism Vs Counterterrorism In the fight against global terrorism, the United States has emerged as the leader in the fight against transnational terrorism due to its standing as world's lone superpower and the fact big target for attacks by terrorist groups. However, with that being said as powerful as the United States is and with as many resources that it has at its disposal it to fight terrorism it still needs help from others. Nation states that are in regions were terrorists wreak or have terrorist activity within their own borders are in a situation in which they would be able to help the United States in a substantial way by providing a great deal of information and partnering up with the United States in the fight against terrorism. However, there are nations...show more content... The funding of terrorist groups has been a big issue for United States counterterrorist policies because essentially what is happening is that terrorist groups who receive funding from nation states not only have the desire to commit acts of terror but they now have the money and/or resources they need to get whatever weapons such as guns, bombs and knifes that would enable them to commit whatever crimes that popped into their heads. Additionally, even in situations in which terrorist groups are in nations that are antiā€“terrorist but have the resources available such as purchasing certain items from stores to commit acts of terror from stores would allow terror groups to carry out their activities if they are not caught in time to prevent them from carrying out their plans. Terrorists/terrorist groups that have the necessary resources to engage in terroristic activity makes the fight against international terrorism that much more complicated because they would have similar resources to the counterterrorist forces, the United States in particular and western nations in general. Hoffman, in reference to the amount of money per year Iran funded for various terrorists groups mentions, "...Iran was alleged to have provided a total of about $100 million a year to various Islamic terrorist organizations across Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Counternarratives: A Narrative Analysis The foundation of this paper is situated in the (counter)narratives of three black female school leaders. A central tenet of CRT is to validate the "voices" of people of color. Scholars of CRT in education argue that data collected of the stories told by educators in educational spaces of their experience in recognizing and confronting "isms," be seen as valid (Ladsonā€“Billings & Tate, 1995; SolŠ“Ń–rzano & Bernal, 2001; SolŠ“Ń–rzano & Yosso, 2001, 2002b). Solorzano and Yosso (2002a) present five constructive uses of counternarratives or counter stories: (1) creates a community among those at the margins of society; (2) challenges the ideological thinking of centerā€“wing members; (3) both discloses the existence of other possibilities and unites communities with the same goals; (4) constructs...show more content... 156). In short, the primer for the multiple uses of counternarratives is to challenge the dominant language used against people of color. In addition, according to SolŠ“Ń–rzano and Bernal (2001) the use of counternarrative can be threefold: (1) in theory, (2) in methodology, and (3) in pedagogy. In this paper, I present how the three black female school principals shift their disposition away from the deficitā€“thinking terminology of the soā€“called achievement gap interpretation towards an assetā€“based understanding of opportunity gap(s). This practice presents a counternarrative to the prevailing discourse in educational circles of interpreting educational gaps that favors blaming the students. Lopez (2003) states "the counterstories of people of color . . . are those stories that are not told, stories that are consciously and/or unconsciously ignored or downplayed because they do not fit socially acceptable notions of truth (pp. 84ā€“85). Depression is serious and, if left untreated, can worsen to the point of becoming lifeā€“threatening. If depressed teens refuse treatment, it may be necessary for family members or other concerned adults to seek professional advice. Therapy can help teens understand why they are depressed and learn how to cope with stressful situations. Depending on the situation, treatment may consist of individual, group or family counseling. • 17. Cheat Sheet Exercises LAWS1111 SHORT EXERCISE The statement that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist is not valid and this is because the differences between the two are far more complex than perspective alone. The issue with perspective being the only distinction is in the difficulty to accurately define terrorism in a way synonymous to describing the characteristics of a freedom fighter. In examining the characteristics of numerous definitions it becomes evident that there is a distinction in the relationship which terrorists and freedom fighters have with civilians when carrying out their violent and politically motivated goals. In terms of methodology, both terrorists and freedom fighters employ violence however the distinction lies with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Counter-Argumentative Essay In 2012, the Times (paywalled) ran a headline that was, for want of a better word, false. "Breivik played video games for a year to train for deadly attacks". This headline is an outstanding example of the news media's quick reaction to Breivik's opening statement of his high profile trial. What the press has failed to report however that is the direct quote from the yetā€“toā€“beā€“proven psychopathic serial killer responsible for the calculated shootingā€“spree death of 77 Norwegian civilians in 2011. Not only do such headlines like these stir opinion and controversy, they do so based on misguided information. This shocking approach to reporting such a tragic event with strong blame aimed at video games reā€“opens debates. Again, the reporting of video games' correlation to violent events continues a tradition that had and continues to haunt the video game industry ever since more graphic and realistic games entered the home, such as Midway's own Mortal Kombat in 1992 and Sega's Night Trap, 1993. It was these two titles which were responsible for the enforcement of a rating system, finally settling in 1994. Later, in 1999 shortly following the Columbine High School ...show more content... What was consistent, however, was the blame on video games as a whole, rather than World of Warcraft or Modern Warfare as stand ā€“alone titles. Just as they did with the Columbine shootings, it was video games as a whole that took a large part of the headlines, rather than the title Doom. This is seemingly unique, when compared to the controversies surrounding the aforementioned book 'The Catcher in the Rye' and film 'A Clockwork Orange'. The Council of Trent was called by Paul Ill who was pope from 1534 to 1549 and it first sat in December 1545.
