Living and growing up in a small town is better than doing so in a big city.
Everyone knows your name; there is a sense of community spirit and just going to visit your neighbor can be rewarding. On the flip side, city life

She would just smile and act like she didn't know it, and then gave us our reward anyway. Another time I remember a parent looking out for us was
when my brother nearly drowned in the local river. He was always tagging along with my friends and me even though he was still too young at six
to do most of the things that we did. When we would go swimming at the river I trusted him to stay safe in the shallows while we older kids braved
the deeper spots. It all happened so quickly that later I marveled at how close we came to losing him. Mr. Ramsey just happened to be on the river

The Life Of Small Town Life
Being a 16 year old girl living in a small town I always thought about leaving for the big city life. I thought small town life was boring. I hadn't
traveled much, never seen the ocean, never seen any great American land marks, and my family had never taken a vacation. We did only live 20
minutes from one of the towns most popular swimming holes, which is still my favorite place to be in the summer. My best friend Becky had lived
with my family and I for about 3 years that summer, we pretty much did everything together, and as luck would have it the "summer of 16" as I like to

I have had the opportunity to live in both, as a child I was raised in Claude Texas. Very small, but not as small as Groom. When I was seven my step
dad got a job offer, so we moved to Chicago Illinois. It was the worst thing I have ever had to do, it was awful, and loud, and scary, and busy, and I
hated it. With a passion.
After living there about a month, we had enough of it. We moved back to Claude, and I was so happy to be back where I knew everyone. And I knew
everyone loved me and cared for me. A little while after that, we moved to Groom because it was closer to my mom's work.
Gee, I thought Claude was amazing. But Groom is beyond amazing, there are people who love you like your their own child. They care about you,

Living In A Small Town Has Unique Challenges
From an outsider's perspective, living in a small town such as Agassiz seems like a pleasant and relaxing place to live; you get to know everyone,
everything you need is within walking distance from your house, and it's relatively safer than the city. However, as someone who has lived in the
town of Agassiz her whole life, I have learned from firsthand experiences that small towns aren't as peaceful as they seem. For example, the town has
become too close–knit. This is due to the low population of students within the schools, mixed with the fact that a majority families have been here for
several generations. As a result, cliques develop; causing drama and spreading gossip. Consequently, there just isn't any privacy in Agassiz. Moreover,
the few businesses that Agassiz has are basically all the same; overpriced convenience stores that never have what you need, and an alarming number of
pizza places for such a restricted space. An easy solution for the issues that Agassiz suffers from is something that is already being implemented;
expand the population by adding more housing and unique businesses.
There are three schools in Agassiz; two elementary schools and a high school. As someone who attended these schools, I noticed quickly that if your
parents weren't close to the other parents and the principal, it was hard to make friends or have your opinions catered to. This was most prominent in
the high school, where great deals of the students' families are close to the principal. As a result of this, they are often given a special treatment,
meaning they get away with being bullies. I experienced several times where a group of these kids bullied people until they switched to another
school, because the principal refused to help them out in any way. More personally, the principal wouldn't let me switch out of a class to another class
that I needed to take to get into my preferred university program, which has made the transition into university even more stressful. Additionally, the
school has an extremely low population– only 300 kids the year that I graduated– that you get to know everybody, which isn't ideal; I often heard way

I am from a small town named Winner that has roughly 3,500 people in it. We don't have a whole lot, but it is still a nice place to live. Moving to
Aberdeen has been a challenge, but I am slowly getting the hang of things. Small towns have multiple perks that people from bigger areas do not get
to experience, just like bigger towns have things that small towns do not get to experience. My favorite thing about living in Winner is having a sense
of community. Because we live in a small town, everybody knows everyone. Sometimes it can be a pain because everyone knows your business but
it does have benefits. If someone has cancer, or a loved one has passed away, or someone has a house fire, people are always there to help you.

dreading my shifts every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. In the meantime, when I was in eleventh grade, I met my boyfriend of two years in our
