2. Virtue
īII Peter 1:5-8: Though our individual goal is to
grow to perfection in Jesus Christ, we teach
progress, not perfection.
īWe are to increase in those Christian graces.
īIt marks a healthy, productive Christian.
īMaturity is about what we do, not what we know.
īBut what is virtue?
īĄMoral excellence, goodness, righteousness.
īĄ Quality that is active, not passive.
3. Virtue
īStrengthen your foundation: Faith.
īWe must have a growing faith (Rom. 10:9-
10; I Peter 1:8, 10; Heb. 4:11).
īWe must increase and demonstrate our
faith (Rom. 1:5, 10:17; James 2:14-26).
īBuild onto your foundation: Virtue.
īEph. 4:17-32: Old man vs. new man.
īGodâs word: the standard (II Tim. 3:16-
17).
4. Virtue
īVirtue: Stems from the character of God
īĄ God canât lie (Heb. 6:18).
īĄ God is faithful (I Thess. 5:24).
īĄ God is righteous (Rom. 9:14).
īĄ Strength of character (II Pet. 1:5).
īHow does character come?
īĄ Contemplate what is right (Phil. 4:8).
īĄDecide whatâs right (Rom. 12:9).
īĄ Put it in practice to do what is right (II Pet. 1:5).
5. Virtue
īVirtue does not ask what will others think and
how will it affect me physically or materially.
īIt asks one question: Is it right?
īWe are Godâs workmanship (Eph. 2:10).
īThat doesnât mean sitting on our backsides
and being pulled along Godâs path.
īPhil. 2:12-13: Work out our own salvation.
īOur work is valuable and matters because
God is working.
