Hayden Pimm
Facilities Designer
Overview
Hayden is a very experienced piping designer, who specialises in supporting Concept and FEED engineering teams to
identify tensions in plant / skid layout and then visualises the range of proposed outcomes. His most valued skill is the
ability to intuitively balance the key design constraints such as cost, operability and risk mitigation, in his facility
layouts, and then communicate challenge points to lead engineers. Hayden facilitates interaction between engineers
and designer, through constant and gentle enquiry as to interaction between items and clarification of why they are
located where they are e.g. blast distances, minimum cable run etc., and then applies that knowledge in later layouts.
Hayden draws on more than 25 years of experience, and desire to understand “the operation”, such that he can rapidly
translate an overview schematic or PFD into a first pass P&ID. This greatly accelerates the development of P&IDs and
often improves the quality since engineers engage more on detail and less on drawing layout. His experience covers
conventional oil & gas, unconventional gas and petro-chemical industries.
When designing pre-assembled units and pipe racks, Hayden draws on his early working experience as an apprentice
turner, fitter machinist for Robt Stone & Co Ltd. He then produces illustrations, walk throughs, dynamic PDFs or
animations of key element movement / installation actions. The end result is a safe, cost effective (often simplified),
operator sensitive and practical solution to for the nominated service.
Hayden regularly uses: Bentley suite AutoPlant and Navisworks he has also used OpenPlant; SmartPlant 3D; and is
dextrous enough to switch to other platforms.

 ExxonMobil (Secondment) - Requested by ExxonMobil to accompany them to coordinate the initial modelling
activities with CB&I the successful detail design contractor. This provided ExxonMobil with a focal point between
Drilling, Construction and Maintenance and an interface between all CB&I disciplines for all matters concerning
the development of all 3D modelling activities and 2D design elements in support of the 30% Model Review.
Primary focus was to gain efficiency in developing layout/models meeting ExxonMobil’s expectations and
requirements.
 ExxonMobil (EOS Secondment) - Responsible for the coordination of all 2D and 3D draughting deliverables
associated with ExxonMobil’s PNG LNG Project (Upstream Facilities) FEED. This work included both the process
and the utility plants associated with the Hides gas conditioning plant, a 960 MMSCFD upstream gas and
condensate conditioning facility. All of the Hides ridge and Angore wellpads. condensate storage and produced
water disposal. Supervision of all project draughting staff and systems. HAZOP study participation. Design,
construction and maintenance reviews.
