This presentation was prepared by Mechanical Engineers during their final year in their Internal Combustion Engine program offered at University of Engineering and Technology Lahore.
3. Electronic Fuel Injector
Electronic Fuel Injection uses various engine
sensors and control module to regulate the
opening and closing of injector valve.
It consists of
• Sensor system
• Fuel delivery system
• Air induction system
• Computer control system
4. Advantages
• Increased power and torque
• Improved volumetric efficiency
• More uniform fuel distribution
• More rapid engine response
• Precise control of the equivalence ratio
• Better working in cold-start and engine warm-up.
7. Multi port injection System
One injector is located in each
manifold runner .ECU controls
injectors by pulsing their
current .Injectors spray fuel
directly into intake port in
front of intake valve .
It has two types
9. Throttle body injection System
Also called central body
injection system has
single injector mounted in
throttle body .Fuel is
sprayed into intake air
entering the manifold
.Fuel pressure is
maintained at constant
pressure .
10.
11. FEEDBACK SYSTEMS
The engine operating air/fuel
ratio is maintained close to
stoichiometric through the use of
sensor called oxygen/lambda
sensor .

System has Fuel tank to store fuel ,the fuel pump to circulate fuel and to provide pressure ,a fuel fuel filter to filter the fuel .Fuel rail or pipe to supply injectors fuel .Injectors suprat fuel into intake valve port .Pressure regulator to control pressure of the system . Fuel supply depends in load ,temperature and speed . different sensor measure the requirements and send signals to ECU which control injector . like In cold start ECU provide pulsating supply of fuel .
Electrical Fuel Pump draws fuel from tank and forces it into the regulator. Pressure Regulator controls the amount of pressure that enters the injector and any extra fuel is returned to the fuel tank. Fuel Injector is simply a coil or solenoid operated valve Spring pressure holds the injector closed When engaged, the injector sprays fuel into the engine.
Injector pulse width is used to control fuel injection through injector . Fuel Preesure is kept at a constant value above manifold pressure so amount of fuel can be determined by time injector is opened by ECU .
This arrangement is called mulipoint injection system .one injector is located in each manifold runner .ECU controls injectors by controlling pulsing their current .Injectors spray fuel directly into intake port infront of intake valve .Fuel Preesure is kept at a constant value above manifold pressure so amount of fuel can be determined by time injector is opened by ECU .Fuel supply depends in load ,temperature and speed . different sensor measure the requirements and send signals to ECU which control injector . like In cold start ECU provide pulsating supply of fuel .
speed-density system, where engine speedand manifold pressure and air temperature are used to calculate the engine flow.
air-flow meter to measure air flow directly. The air-flow meter is placedupstream of the throttle. The meter shown measures the force exerted on a plateas it !s displaced by the flowing air stream; it provides a voltage proportional tothe air flow rate.
Throttle body injection system . also called central body injection system has single injector .mounted in carburetor like throttle body .fuel is sprayed into intake air entering the manifold .Fuel pressure is maintained at constant pressure .
The engine operating air/fuel ratio is maintained close to stoichiometric through the use of a sensor in the exhaust system which provides voltage signal dependent on the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gasstreamThe sensor called an oxygen sensor or lambda sensor The eleclrolyte is yttria (Y203)-stabilized zirconia (Zr02) ceramic which separates two gas chambers (the ex'haust manifold and the atmosphere) which have differentoxygen partial pressures. The oxygen partialpressure in equilibrated exhaust gases decreases by many orders. ofmagnitude as[be equivalence ratio changes from 0.99 to 1.01,
