2. (2)In 8 bit register the highest value we can save is 255. How an 8bit CPU
performs operations for numbers greater than 255? How the CPU accumulate
the number?
When an add instruction on the NES processor caused an overflow, this would set
the Carry flag. There was an instruction called ADC ("add with carry") which would
add two numbers, plus one if the Carry flag was set. So if you had two bytes in
memory somewhere -- say, the player's score -- you could add some points to the
low byte, then add 0 to the high byte with carry, and this would have the same effect
as adding an 8-bit score increment to a 16-bit counter.
clc ;clear carry
lda low ;load the low byte
adc #232 ;add 232.
sta low ;save the low byte
lda high ;load the high byte
adc #3 ;add 3 and carry
3. sta high ;save the high byte
(3)Parity bit
A parity bit, also known as a check bit, is a single bit that can be appended to a
binary string. It is set to either 1 or 0 to make the total number of 1-bits either even
("even parity") or odd ("odd parity").
(4)What is ram disk?
A RAM disk is a representation of a hard disk using RAM resources, and it can take
the form of a hardware device or a virtual disk. In software, it is basically a block of
memory that is being treated as if it were a hard disk drive through the use of
dedicated software, which takes a block from the RAM pool and uses it as a
dedicated storage area as if it were a hard drive, but with exceedingly faster
performance compared to a hard disk. In the form of a hardware device, it is just a
4. bunch of RAM cards or sticks housed together in a case with drive electronics to
make it interact with disk drive technologies such as SATA and IDE, and a backup
battery so that data is not lost.
A RAM disk is also known as a RAM drive.
