This document describes a sensory copying activity that can be done with children in primary school. The activity involves children being paired up and one child copying by touch a simple sign drawn by the teacher on the blackboard onto the back of their partner, who then copies the sign onto paper. The goals of the activity are to calm children, increase concentration, develop focusing skills, train accuracy, improve sensory perception, foster social relationships, and introduce an element of surprise.
2. SENSUAL COPYING
This activity can be done in small or large groups. All children in the
group work at the same time.
Children are positioned in a line or a semicircle. The teacher calms them
down with a simple breathing exercise.
Children are divided into pairs. One of them sits in front of the other,
both facing away from the blackboard. The teacher draws a simple sign
(that consists of maximum three strokes) on the blackboard. The child
behind looks at the blackboard and draws the sign on the back of the
child before him or her, one stroke at a time. This other child makes the
same strokes on a piece of paper.
At the end of the activity both children compare the signs on the
blackboard and on the piece of paper.
This element of surprise serves as a goal that makes the children
cooperate and follow instructions.
