3. The existing problems / risks
The problems in the pharmaceutical supply chain/ Doctor-patient problems
1.Because involve a lot of wholesaler, retailer, each differ in the respect such as equipment of
equipment of transportation condition, store, as a result, after assuring same product factory, still
maintain same quality respect has difficulty. As a special commodity concerning patients’ lives, drugs
have high requirements on quality. Because of the increased difficulty of regulation, the risk of a drug
reaching patients has increased.
2.As a special kind of consumer goods, illegal behaviors often occur when economic interests are
involved. Doctors, as masters of professional technical knowledge, can make use of this advantage to
maximize their own interests. Therefore, when prescribing drugs to patients, they often abuse
antibiotics and use expensive alternative drugs, which not only causes physical pain to patients, but
also causes economic losses.
3.Inventory problem in the pharmaceutical supply and procurement model, wholesalers and retailers at
all levels decide their own inventory according to their own market conditions, without forming an
orderly and efficient inventory model. And because of the lack of effective information sharing, it is
difficult to achieve an effective allocation of drug resources.
4. Case study introduction
PillTime is a British online pharmacy that sends patients’ pills out pouched into individual doses in an
attempt to remove confusion for older people. It is very similar to PillPack, they are both offering a service
to people who have to assume multiple medications per day, the main difference is that PillTime is free
because it’s a service provided by the British NHS.
12. 1. We can’t participate in whole service systems,
so it was challenging to identified the problems
in each part of the process.
2. Since the comunication with patients is poor
and there is not a community within our patients
group, it is difficult for them to communicate
with each other and so for us to know more
about their criticalities.
Our limitation
13. Insights
Despite the innovative
idea of the pouches
PillTime it is not yet able
to 100% remind
patients to take pills on
time but surely it can be
consider a social
innovation since it is
improving life condition
of costumers.
Time is an important
factor for an innovation
to be adopted, especially
when most of the buyers
are not already under the
e-commerce paradigm
To achieve a higher level
of adopters first PillTime
should improve the
remote trust and the
comunication with
costumers and minimize
technical errors
