Nokia Corporation is a multi-national communications
corporation, focused on the key growth areas of wired and
wireless telecommunications.
Introduction
The name "Nokia" is derived from the town Nokia and
the Nokianvirta river.
In 1865, the mining engineer, Fredrik Idestam established
a ground wood pulp millon the banks of
the Tammerkoski rapids in the town of Tampere, in
southwestern Finland. Tampere was then part of the Russian
Empire. In 1868, Idestam built a second mill near the town of
Nokia.
