Bandlab seemed to function more clearly than Soundtrap and could be used to do more in the classroom. Pictramap seems like a great way to engage students visually and keep them interested while conveying information. Badges could be a motivating tool for beginning bands to encourage practice. Orff may help engage middle schoolers if implemented properly. Flipgrid could help students practice presentations and benefit those with anxiety. Bandlab: A Clearer Choice for Classroom Music
1.
2. 1. Bandlab
I used soundtrap this year in my classroom. It worked well but I am hoping to
make the switch to bandlab next year. It seemed to function a lot clearer and I
think there is more we can do with it. I am in the process of getting my district to
approve it for school use.
3. 2. Pictramap
Pictramap seems like a great way to hook students in as well as convey
information with visuals. It seems much more elegant then a normal slideshow. I
think it will help to keep kids interested while telling them about something.
4. 3. Badges
I like the idea of using badges with my beginning bands. I have 3 5th grade bands
at the moment and I think this could be a great tool to get kids more motivated.
This also seems like a great opportunity to teach students the importance of
practice.
5. 4. Orff
I have always been a little wary of Orff. It always seemed very difficult to do
properly and I did not want to mess it up. I feel a bit more comfortable with it now
and hope to try it more soon. I think it could be helpful with engaging my middle
schoolers.
6. 5. Flipgrid
I am very intrigued by flipgrid. I think it would work well for presentations so that
students can practice it and refine their presentation a little. It also could be helpful
for students with anxiety.
7. 6. Kahoot
I love using kahoot in the classroom. It is a great way to change things up and
ensure that the kids have a little fun.
8. 7. Community
I have not been able to very much so far but I am excited to get my program more
interactive with the community. We have started a little and I am hopeful that we
can integrate ourselves into the community.
9. 8. World Music Pedagogy closer to home
I always thought of far off distant lands when I thought of world music. Now I see
that we can apply similar principles closer to home as well.
10. 9. Consciousness of the physiology of the brain
Remembering how our brain works has become very important in my planning.
Taking this into consideration has changed a lot of my lessons for the better and I
hope to keep learning more about it.
11. 10. Laban Body Efforts/Actions
I learned about the Laban Body Efforts/Actions in my conducting classes during
my undergraduate studies. This reminded me to incorporate them more into my
conducting. It is easy to beat meter when with middle schoolers but I want to
continue you show them more then just that.
