2. INTRODUCTION:-
DEMING AWARD:-
The Deming Grand Prize was created to commemorate the first International Conference on
Quality Control (ICQC), held in October 1969 in Tokyo, and to maintain and upgrade the spirit of
the conference long into the future. With the purpose of further developing the world of quality
control, the Deming Grand Prize was established with a fund from surplus conference revenues.
(Deming Grand Prize was originally established as Japan Quality Medal and name change took
place in 2012).
Winners of the Deming Grand Prize may repeatedly apply for the medal as long as they wait three
years or more (including the award year) after winning. Therefore, for those organizations that
have been practicing TQM for a long time, receiving the Deming Grand Prize is the highest honor.

well structured process.

The objectives are proposed during a joint meeting and first line supervision
thus making the communication process a robust one.

The policies and the vision is finalized accordingly based on TQM;

Ashok Leyland:-
Embed quality culture inthe organization.small group activites (SMA) was
promoted while helped to improve products quality .
CEAT Ltd:-
The company adopted the self managed team(SMT) philosophy to create a
modern work culture.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
Philosophy of TQM keeping inview company has laid major quality
improvement.

Regular meeting with workman,supervisor and frontline manager are a part of
this system.
CEAT Ltd:-
All information regarding the status of each objectives and their plan is
shared with employees through in house meeting.

Collection of internal and external data is a focus area at swaraj.
7. STANDARDIZATION
Ashok Leyland:-
It has certificate of TS16949. a result of daily management methodology as
well as ISO efforts, the framing and use of standards was introduced.
CEAT Ltd:-
It has certification for IS9001, ISOTS16949,ISO14001 &OHSAS18001.
The organization has place system of SOP (System operating procedures

Effective utilisation of SOP and QCPC( Quality Control Process Chart.
8. HUMAN RESOURCES
Ashok Leyland:-
The ALP was a big drive of TQM education was taken up across all levels of
hierarchy , it objective was to improve the problem solving capabilitie.
CEAT :
The QBM knowledge and build skills, all employees were given different
training. This aspect was addressedunder QBM skulls.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
The skill set,five operational skills and five knowledge skills . There are
equipment, process, quality,safety and problem solving .
9. QUALITY ASSURANCE
Ashok Leyland :-
In defect free product to customer . it follows ,1.supplier quality 2.In house
manufacturing quality3.field quality To improve it has training, system audit
and process control measures.
CEAT Ltd :
Critical quality assurance activities like customer feedback and benchmarking
resulted in preparing true customer requirement. the quality policy orientated
towards purpose is "making mobility safer and smater everyday.

7 Step Qc story approach help in the elimination of failure and reducing in
problem. Through PFMEA, the potential failure modes and its potential effects
are identified
10. MAINTNANCE
Ashok Leyland:-
PFMEA was prepared for each process (line wise ) is being used to identify
potential errors in processing.
CEAT Ltd:-
Poke yoke is a technological system to reduce failure modes.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
Quality parameters are being monitored while using statistical process control
(spl).
11. IMPROVEMENT
Ashok Leyland:-
I-T based material requirement planning was started to ensure quick
communication and it carried out bottleneck analysis.
CEAT Ltd:-
End-to-end pull system has been introduced and in-house inventory was
reduces by kanban system.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
Deviation in quality of the product is analyzed by PDCA cycle (Plan Do Check
Act).
12. EFFECTS:-
Ashok Leyland:-
Capacity utilisation improved from 49-100%.
CEAT Ltd:-
Improved the QCDSM parameters(Quality,Cost,Delivery,Safety,Morale) and
also made reduction in warranty claims.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
Carbon footprint came down from 0.342 tons of CO2/tractor to 0.28 ton.
13. FUTURE PLANS
Ashok Leyland:-
The ALP`s one of the future plan is to give the importance for creativity &
innovations in products . And Improve the employees skills in all departments.
CEAT Ltd:-
The CEAT future plan is strengthening QBM practices, particularly in HR
and finance shall be the focus during the onward journey to become world
leaders.
Mahindra & Mahindra – Swaraj Division:-
This company's future plan is to improve the product quality and create a new
models . And increase a productivity by 15% in the next 3 years.
