The Plummet of âAnimal Farm
The fall of Animal Farm was caused by Napoleon due to his fear tactics and
his way of dragging Animal Farm to the ground. He could of been a lot better leader
had he not lead most of the animals to their death. After every decision he made to
benefit Animal Farm he really just brought them down even more. For example in the
battles he never fights he just lets the rest of the animals do his work for him, he just
stays back and hides because he's scared of getting killed. Also, when he decides to
add Sunday's and when everyone is working 60 hour weeks and everyone's working
for Napoleon because he doesn't work. This also caused Boxer's death the hardest
working animal and a friend to Napoleon, Napoleon pushed him too far and
eventually his lungs collapsed because he was doing three times his part and he
was old and injured and eventually he couldn't handle it so Napolean just pushed
him to the breaking point.
Napoleon also uses fear and violence to reinforce his policies. He adopted
nine puppies which grow up to become his bodyguards. He even goes so far as
executing animals that challenge him. Some animals get frustrated with Napoleon
and he threatens to execute those who oppose him and even forces some animals
into confessing. He exterminates the idea of ââBeasts of Englandâ âbecause he doesnât
want the animals to have an idea to rebel. Towards the end of the book Napoleon
starts to become more and more furious with the idea of the animals questioning his
2. power and authority. Napoleon is a terrible leader, he changed 5 of the 7
commandments that the farm stood for
Before:
1.Whatever goes upon 2 legs is an enemy
2.Whatever goes upon 4 legs or has wings, is a friend
3. No animal shall wear clothes
4.No animal shall sleep in a bed
5.No animal shall drink alcohol
6.No animal shall kill any other animal
7. All animals are equal
After:
1. 4 legs good 2 legs bad
2.No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets
3.No animal shall drink alcohol to excess
4. No animal shall kill any other animal without cause
5.All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others
Boxer was the most loyal, hard working "comrade" on the farm. Napoleon
abuses his loyalty by getting all the work out of him that he can, then selling him to
the slaughterhouse to get the last possible bit of money out of him. Also Napoleon
uses the convincing speeches of Squealer as a way of preventing the animals being
enraged by the killing of Boxer "the van had previously been the property of the
knacker and had been bought by the veterinary surgeon, who had not painted the
old name out." The Squealer promoted Napoleon's love saying he had paid out
much money on expensive medicines leading the animals to think that Napoleon
was kind and caring. However in fact he was using boxer for personal benefit before
he could reach retiring age. Also, Napoleon established trade links with neighboring
farms to allow more income in exchange of overly produced goods, then he tried to
blame it on Snowball then he was being a double agent for Jones the whole times so
throughout the book it really goes down to napoleon canât take the blame for
anything.
3. In conclusion, Napoleon is at fault for the fall of Animal Farm due to the fact
that he used fear tactics against other animals, and pushed his best workers too
hard to the breaking point like what he did to Boxer which caused Boxerâs death,
when he sold him to the slaughter house so he could get the last bit of money out of
Boxer after he built the windmill. Also Napoleon had the empty barrels filled with
sand so Mr. Whymper doesnât think that they donât have food and so Napoleon
doesnât seem like a bad leader for not getting food for the animals. Also he forced
the hens to produce 400 eggs per week and they refused so he told them they
wouldnât let the hens eat so time passed and as a month ended 9 hens died so the
hens unwillingly agreed. Napoleon used the hens as a source for money because he
would give the eggs to Mr. Whymper to get money and more materials. This shows
how brutal and arrogant Napoleon is because he makes everyone do work do for
him while he stays back and collects money and materials while he doesnât do
anything. During the Battle of Cowshed he never fights and he always gives
encouraging speeches and he watches the animals dying and getting injured and
shot at while heâs âcheering them on.â
