2. Why Choose This Topic?
Based on the growing need to integrate literacy
development at every level in a classroom.
Students learn to do what they are doing, and by using
tools that they are familiar with we will be targeting
their interests while building their skills and strengths.
The use of digital storybooks targets many different
interests, abilities and styles of learning. Thus insuring
that we are reaching as many students as possible.
3. Key Points
What is it?
Digital storytelling is the process of using any
different forms of media(i.e. Audio, graphics,
&video) to create a story.
Storybird
Common programs used are: Audacity, Garage
Band, I-movie, Movie Maker, Photo Shop, etc.
Promotes student creativity.
4. In the Classroom
• Digital story telling can be utilized in the classroom by teachers
and students to depict the various ways we could use literature in
the classroom
• Digital storytelling allows students to be creative as well as
process information on a multitude of different levels.
• Allows children to learn about different forms of technology as
well as acquire literacy skills when undertaking the project
• Helps children develop organizational skills as it requires many
different steps
• Incorporates visual learning in the classroom
5. Connecting to the QEP
• Digital stories are flexible and include: Personal Narratives, Historical documentaries,
Stories that inform/instruct.
• Teachers should “integrate ICT in the preparation and delivery of teaching/learning
activities” (QEP Professional Competency 8)
• Digital storytelling supports the 4 QEP ELA competencies
• When teachers show digital stories to instruct/inform, students “read and listen to
literary, popular and information-based texts.”
