This workshop aims to revitalize current teaching practices and encourage trainers to widen their use of new technologies. The workshop will allow participants to explore different teaching techniques, introduce new ideas, and discuss ways to re-energize teaching to make it more fun for both learners and teachers. Participants will identify opportunities to adapt existing resources, recognize benefits of sharing resources, and source new engaging resources to challenge and stimulate learners.
1. Delivering learning sessions which engage and enthuse our learners is pivotal to achieving both
contractual expectations and success during inspection. It also has significant benefit in terms of
attracting new learners and retaining existing learners.
Teachers and trainers apply a wide and diverse range of teaching skills and techniques but often,
due to increasing work commitments and limited preparation time, a smaller range of personally
favoured approaches to teaching are employed. This has many benefits but, over time, can lead
to the process becoming less exciting and less engaging for the learners.
This workshop is designed to allow the exploration of favoured techniques used by workshop
participants, enabling others to consider them within their own topic areas. Through discussion,
we can introduce new ideas and approaches to using available resources and explore, practically,
ways to re-energise teaching and training within your organisation - making life more fun and
exciting for learners and tutors alike.
Through encouraging an holistic approach to re-energising teaching and widening participation, it
is hoped to promote an environment of active learning.
Aims and Objectives
This highly participative and interactive workshop is designed to revitalise current practice and
encourage trainers to widen their use of new and emerging technology.
In doing so, it enables participants to:
• Identify key opportunities for adapting current resources
• Recognise the benefits of sharing resources
• Be able to source and adapt new resources which will engage and motivate learners
• Consider the choice of resources and their ability to challenge and stimulate learning
Content
The workshop includes:
Sharing of current good practice with colleagues, through group work and reflection in order to
use available resources in innovative ways.
Identifying potential barriers to engagement and concentration in learners and identifying
appropriate resources for trainers to use with groups who may present challenges in terms of
motivation and concentration levels.
Identification of sources of training materials; which encourage thinking ‘outside the box’ and
which are accessible and easily adapted for appropriate vocational contexts.
The workshop accommodates the needs of teachers and trainers who are committed to
developing their delivery skills under constraints of time and will reflect their involvement in
delivering an ever-evolving curriculum.
Bring with you
To gain maximum benefit from this workshop, participants should bring with them:
