2. If we look in the dictionary,
the definition of family
establishes it as a group of
people who carry a degree of
kinship and coexist as such. It
is generally made up of one or
two parents and their children.
There are also a variety of
family units, because children
are raised in single-parent
homes.
What is a
Family?.
3. FAMILY AND
RELATIONSHIPS
PROBLEMS.
Children can present different emotional
and behavioral problems, depending on how
they interpret the conflicts that arise
between parents.
Even though, everybody expects family
is a space where people find peace and
tranquility, there are problems related
to the relationships between spouses,
parents, children, extended family and
friends.
4. How to avoid family conflicts?.
One of the main tools to avoid family conflicts is to establish good
communication between all the members of the family, a communication in
which there is trust among all the members of the family.
The next one is to develop a plan. If the problems are mainly due to external
circumstances, it can help to work together to make a plan for actions and get
a consensus to try to solve them. Having a plan can reduce stress and give the
family members a common goal.
5. The role of family in
child development.
The family is the fundamental nucleus of
society and as a nucleus it allows its family
members to develop adequately, especially
children in a physical, intellectual,
psychological and social way.
The family helps boys and girls to learn who
they are, to identify their personality and
provide emotional support, all this
complemented by the environment where
children develop, it defines fundamental
elements that define their lives.
Previous education and the style of communication between parents and children
directly influences how they relate to their environment. Successful parents
encourage and reinforce the good behavior of their child, motivate them at the
time of learning and facilitate their development in their social competence.
6. Family and children learning.
Research says that children benefit when parents and the rest of the members of
the family get involved in their learning and development. Family engagement is
positively linked to children and adolescents outcomes.
Home learning environment must be formative in a child´s social development and is
an essential contributing factor to educational outcomes at all periods of their
learning route.
Positive family conversations around learning, the parents’ genuine interest in their
children learning and the family support for their educational progress will have a
positive effect on children´s achievement.
7. School and work.
Education is one of the factors that most influences the
advancement and progress of people. In addition to providing
knowledge, knowledge and learning, it allows us to enrich our
cultures and values.
The right to education for children and adolescents around the
world and in our country is determined in constitutions and in
the principles and goals set in the international agreements.
One of the damages that our children have is child labor is
called any job or activity that deprives children of their
childhood. They are activities that harm both physical and
mental health, affecting their development.
In Ecuador, children are engaged in forms of child labor
including commercial sexual exploitation, tasks in
agriculture and domestic services. Some of them combine
work and study.
8. HOW LABOR AFFECTS THE LEARNING
ACHIEVEMENT?
Working students carry little motivation towards learning, school
absences, and their decrease in academic performance in the various
subjects.
Additionally, working after school increases academic anxiety and
decreases student well-being.
Regarding paid work, it negatively impacts both attendance and
learning.
9. Education aims to:
Make the rights of the child
/ adolescent known.
Create mechanisms that allow
the prevention and detection
of child labor.
Transform schools into
welcoming and attractive
spaces for students.
10. COHERENT GOVERNMENT POLICIES TO
PREVENT CHILD AND ADOLESCENT LABOR.
If the Ecuadorian Constitution and international agreements demand
our governments to give the facilities to provide with schools to
promote quality education to children and adolescents and they have
to prefer work instead of school due to individual and family
circumstances, policymakers have to make plans to overcome this
situation.
Some coherent policies government should adapt are:
*Creating decent work opportunities for parents
*Creating incentives for parents to invest in education of children and
*adolescents.
*Ensuring for free compulsory and quality education.
*Expanding social protection.
*Being drastic with people who exploit children and adolescents in their
business
