Secondary research
1. Secondary Research
The product that has been chosen for the advert is a home
security system.
Our advert compares to most existing adverts by persuading
the audience that the security system can protect them and
their property from burglars to any other threat to their homes. To separate our advert from
others it will be created to be a bit more light hearted than any existing adverts as they use fear
to persuade the audience into buying their type of products as well as they were very careful not
to break any BCAP codes, so we don’t want to take that risk, so we have made it more lighter
and more safe for people to watch. They make their adverts scary because it makes the
audience pressured and forced into buying a proper alarm system because of the scary robbers
that could harm and vandalize your house and often the adverts put a family in the storyline
because the audience can relate to protecting their family and it makes the audience feel unsafe
and vulnerable for not buying a proper security alarm system. In our advert, the different camera
shots will be similar to the existing adverts by using mid shots, close ups, long shots and so on
to make our advert more realistic and more persuasive to the audience and also can make the
audience follow the storyline of the advert.
These 3 adverts are all for the same company, Broadview
Security and they all have a similar, concept. They involve a woman in her house, and a mad
man breaking in. As soon as he breaks in however, the security system comes on and he is
scared away. This company also provide a helpline, so when security is breached, a worker will
call the household, and if there is an emergency will alert the services. By having a recognisably
similar concept for each advert it makes the audience remember the brand, and the high quality
of service it provides. Each advert has a different context, so it shows the versatility of the
product in all kinds of situations. These adverts really specify their target audience, people who
live in suburban areas of America, with very large houses, indicating they must be quite rich. It
is also quite sexist, as it shows the men always being aggressive and violent and the women as
weak and helpless. At first the adverts seem useful, as they show the product in its best light,
but because there are so many they all become quite monotonous. They do provide a lot of
information about the product at the end, so the viewer is aware of how they alarms work, so
can make an educated decision when it comes to buying home security. When creating our
advert we want to make it as informative as these and show the product’s efficiency and how
well it works, but in a more light hearted way, so it is not as dark and scary.
This advert use humour to relay their product to the audience. As the man standing outside the
house represents the security system, showing it as a reliable product, always on guard and will
2. stop any threat, As shown when two burglar run away from afeared on the man. This shows
how effect the product is but as it's portrayed in comically way
in become easily memorable making it more likely that people
would have brought this product just for what they've seen
from the advert. This is very useful for secondary research as
in have my similarities that we wish recreate in our advert,
mainly the humour side of the advert while be able to show the
capabilities of the product itself.
The website is useful as secondary research as it gives
examples of many different security system products and how they
are used. This information will be useful when create a suitable
plot that can show how our product much more improved and work
better than any other make.
