Introduction To UK Theft Prevention Campaign
“Sharing Information,” “Better & Closer Collaboration.”
For several years now; especially in the UK; these once upon a time,
unspoken terms have become the main topic of conversation for many
Retailers/Business Services, Organisations, Law Enforcement, and Policy
Makers. You could say they have become the new ‘Buzz’ words within the
business sector and wider community.
We followed and researched as 2013/14 passed us by and it is only now that
we are beginning to see the benefits of these words develop into actual reality.
If it wasn’t for the sheer hard work between the Police, Policy Makers and
various Business Bodies, Organisations and let’s not forget all the other local
Crime Partnerships spread out throughout the UK, then we would still be in the
days of everyone blaming each other and businesses continuing with their own
policies and procedures. There is still along way to go, but dare we say
“Continued Collaboration” should now be the new “Buzz” words!??!!.....
On that note, Shop-It Ltd (Security-Help-Offering-Prevention-In-Theft) was set
up to aid the Retail, Business, and Security sectors in Theft Prevention with
the main emphasis on the continual problem of Shoplifting and part Business
Crime in general. The whole domain of LP and Security is vast, competitive
and even more technology driven than ever before. We all know businesses
need to make a profit, period. Though, in the current economic climate the
need to reduce losses and improve profit has never been greater. We had to
think outside the box, quite literally! “We are looking from the outside in, not
from the inside out?” We did not want to compete with other established
companies. We wanted to figure out away to work alongside them, establish a
connection ensuring a mutual respect for one and other. After all, everyone
has the same goals at the end of the day. We are not experts in Loss/Asset
Protection, Security, SFM, etc. but what we feel passionate about is Theft
Prevention. It’s not the cure, but it’s the best way forward for us…..
The Campaign
We are going back to the beginning. A time when shoplifters are born?
After years of research and our own personal knowledge of the subject
it is believed the general age range when people begin shoplifting is
between 11 and 12 years old. Around the time when children go to
Secondary school.
Through the power of the internet, school children aged 11 to 15 years
old will be given the free option of playing an engaging, interactive,
modern day Quest, but with a twist! The children will be lead to believe
they are playing a Fun, Educational online game, but in reality it will be
a Theft Prevention Campaign with the serious message that retail
crime is not a good life choice, it is not a victimless crime, they will not
get a job with a criminal record for theft, etc, etc.
Teams of one or more children from schools across the UK and Ireland
respectively, will be able to watch and interact within a real video story
environment putting the viewer directly in the action. What happens
next is up to the player. They will make real life choices even accepting
the consequences such as getting caught and being arrested!
Along the way players will be given clues, puzzles, etc in relation to a
retailers products or services and will visit their place of business in
video, view their website or even have to visit the premises in real time
to find the answers, win points and especially prizes!
The team that wins overall will win a main prize for themselves and
ultimately their school.

After years of research and our own personal knowledge of the subject it is believed the general age range when people begin shoplifting is between 11 and 12 years old. Around the time when children go to Secondary school. Through the power of the internet, school children aged 11 to 15 years old will be given the free option of playing an engaging, interactive, modern day Quest, but with a twist! The children will be lead to believe they are playing a Fun, Educational online game, but in reality it will be a Theft Prevention Campaign with the serious message that retail crime is not a good life choice, it is not a victimless crime, they will not get a job with a criminal record for theft, etc, etc. Teams of one or more children from schools across the UK and Ireland respectively, will be able to watch and interact within a real video story environment putting the viewer directly in the action. What happens next is up to the player. They will make real life choices even accepting the consequences such as getting caught and being arrested! Along the way players will be given clues, puzzles, etc in relation to a retailers products or services and will visit their place of business in video, view their website or even have to visit the premises in real time to find the answers, win points and especially prizes!
