Bhanubhakta received an education in Sanskrit from his grandfather and in Varanasi, and is honored as Aadikavi for his contributions to Nepali poetry and literature, especially for translating the Sanskrit Ramayana into simple Nepali. He is celebrated annually on his birthday, Bhanu Jayanti, with literary programs in his honor. Bhanubhakta Acharya is revered in Nepal as Aadakavi, or the first poet, for translating the Ramayana and making poetry accessible to the public, as described by Motiram Bhatta in the first biography of Acharya in 1981.
