SELF-DENIAL
• Jesus denied Himself for us (Phil. 2:5-8).
Husband and wife must deny self if they are to be
what God desires them to be (Eph. 5:33).
• The church can’t submit to Christ unless they
practice self-denial (Matt. 16:24; Eph. 5:22-24).
Wives can’t submit to their husbands in the Lord
without denying themselves.
• Christ couldn’t have loved the church without
denying Himself (Eph. 5:25-27).
Husbands can’t love their wives without denying self.

TRUST
• We are to trust Jesus completely (Heb. 13:5-6).
Husband and wife should also trust on another in
the same way (Eph. 5:30-31).
• We are to trust Jesus to provide for our spiritual &
physical nourishment (Eph. 5:29; Matt.6:31-34).
Husband and wife are to trust one another to provide
physical and emotional nourishment (Eph. 5:29).
• Without trust we cannot please Jesus (Heb. 11:6).
Without trust in our marriages we cannot please one
another.

COMMITMENT
• Without a commitment to Jesus we will give up when
the way gets difficult (Matt. 16:24).
Without a commitment to one another in marriage we will
give up when the way gets hard.
• We must commit ourselves to living for Jesus if we are
to have a successful relationship with Him (Gal. 2:20).
We must commit ourselves to living for one another if our
marriages are going to be successful.
• Once we’ve committed to Jesus we mustn't look back
(Luke 9:62).
Once we’ve committed in marriage we mustn’t look back.

FORGIVENESS
• Our relationship with God wouldn’t be possible &
couldn’t continue without forgiveness (Eph. 1:7).
As imperfect people our marriage relationships can’t continue
without forgiveness.
• Christ has a willingness to continually provide for our
forgiveness (Col. 3:13; Heb. 7:25).
We too must be willing to forgive our spouses repeatedly
(Matt. 18:21-22; Luke 17:3-4).
• When God forgives He forgives and forgets (Heb. 8:12).
We must forgive our spouses in the same way (1 Cor. 13:5).
