2. Year 24XX
• “Origo City” is a metropolis located somewhere in
a temperate zone.
• We have interviewed those who live in this city,
through 3 major themes:
Environment
Society Economy
2
3. Global interaction Society
I am a computer science
researcher, and work in
Origo City for 10 years
Thanks to worldwide infrastructures, ultra-high speed connection allows people to interact instantly
through connected gadgets, such as mobile devices, watches, glasses, etc.
After the 3rd World War, there is no more border controls: disparities amongst countries almost
disappeared, while those within cities keep rising.
3
4. Local interaction Society
As a palmer tree, I live inside
the largest leisure center of
our city for 20 years
In our center, located in downtown, a lot of activities are available: gym, aqua center, tanning salon, sports infrastructure, karaoke
rooms, etc.
People really enjoy coming here in summer and winter, because of extreme weather outside. During these periods, a giant dome
must cover the city to prevent climate disaster including:
• Extreme heat: thanks to the UV-absorbing film, we can control the temperature within Origo City.
• Tornado: thanks to the solid “outer shell”, the dome can absorb and even transform energy generated by the phenomenon.
• Extreme cold: thanks to the control system, the city runs as an autonomous building.

5. Structure of the city Society
I live here for 5 years
I am less and less comfortable with this city: it’s increasingly difficult to find a place to rest. Skyscrapers are everywhere, I
even have trouble to find my way.
To nest, there are not many choices: either I fly to high levels to find a place in numerous hanging parks integrated into
skyscrapers, or I go down to low and uncomfortable levels. I can’t go lower further because of the contaminated soil:
although the decontamination has begun centuries ago, it’s far from done.
5
6. Residential areas Society
I live here for 2 years
I love playing with children of my master, inside these “hanging gardens” embedded within residential
areas: in fact, they are artificial parks with greenery, built upwards.
A lot of families come here to enjoy the sun, which is impossible in lower levels.
6
7. Building Society
Dad, where are we? Why did you bring
me here?
Wahoo! What a big place to play!
Can I eat these fruits?
My son, we are on the “roof garden” of our skyscraper. Of course you can eat these fruits: they
are cultivated for this! In addition, it provides temperature control, hydrological benefits and
architectural enhancement.
Besides, as you can see: the blue things covering our building are called “solar panels”. They are
used to capture solar energy for later use.
I know that you don’t understand this yet, but know that energy saving is something very important
for our planet.
Come on, we go home!
7
8. House - Energy saving Environment
I was adopted
I am happy here, because of my adorable masters, and our warm house: it is called an “autonomous
house”, integrated into our “autonomous building”. The latter is energy-efficient, through the use of
renewable energy and resources, such as: storm drains, electricity saving, solar heating system, water
heating, cooling and food production.
Efficient isolation systems are also present: windows, doors, verandas, terraces, balconies, etc.
8
9. City - Waste recycling Environment
I live in Origo City since 2 years
My ancestors lived in the underground network of the city, where
many pipes are used, including for waste recycling.
When Human found the way to recycle all type of waste, an
exponential development of the network occurred, accompanied
by intensive cleaning processes of underground. That urged us
to quit the place and now, most of us live a peaceful life as
domestic pet: and I prefer this life!
Moreover, recycling is the most clean process to produce
energy, which substantially reduces the energy dependency of
our city.
9
10. Country - Energy production Environment
I live in nearby suburbs of Origo City, and all
those strange things we can see along the
country side are used to produce energy:
• Wind power: those “windmills” constitute a
huge network of wind farms, and are set up
next to our pasture, without negative impact
on our health
• Hydropower: those “sea snakes” are wave
energy converter, using wave power to produce
energy.
All those methods of production have cut down the
part of energy produced by nuclear centers to less
than 5%. The will is to significantly reduce nuclear
energy dependency after the 3rd World War.
10
11. Use of water Environment
As plane tree, I was
planted here 10 years ago
Inside residential areas, complete systems to recycle wastewater are established in all autonomous
buildings: water from toilettes, bath, shower, kitchen, and washing machine is gathered then filtered
before watering.
Afterward, through intra-city irrigation system, each neighbor waters its own trees and can even supply
the global network of Origo City.
11
12. Greenbelt Environment
I am the multi-centenary tree and live
in the downtown park of Origo City
I saw the 3rd World War, which was a disaster for all forms of life in Earth.
After that, the reconstruction has been long and painful. The good side is that Human learnt from this experience:
they began to develop alternative energy, to increase energy-efficiency and to control their over consumption.
For our city, survivors have decided to build it around me. Thereby at the beginning, I was alone but progressively, a
greenbelt, composed by a great diversity of vegetations, emerged and contributed to our healthy environment.
12
13. Transport networks Economy
On the other hand, public transport, also solar,
disposes of aerial tunnels that substantially
increase vehicles’ speed.
Thus, the pollution has almost gone away from
the city.
I live in public places,
inside the city
As fossil fuel - coal, petroleum and natural
gas - has been exhausted long time ago, I
breathe much better compared to my
ancestor.
On the one hand, for private transport,
people use solar cars: they don’t pollute,
can endurance a very long distance and
above all, are energy-efficient.
13
14. Industrial pollution Economy
I live in industrial areas
Unlike my friends of Origo City, I have less chance: as Human has relocated the most polluting
factories in far suburbs, that preserved the immediate vicinity of the city, but has continued to
damage far countryside's’ environment.
I must believe that Human hasn’t found clean ways to product yet.
14
15. Global energy control Economy
Politicians and businessmen
A collective awareness has emerged among survivors of the 3 rd World War. Politicians and
businessmen decided to control energy use, minimizing negative impact on economy and
maximizing positive impact on environment.
For instance:
• No more ad boards at night, only public lighting
• At work, a minimum temperature in Summer and a maximum in Winter are imposed
• All lighting systems - public and private - are energy-saving
15
16. Commerce Economy
Worldwide consumers:
including myself
Purchasing Sending Receiving
All physical stores disappeared. All purchases are made via network and automated as follows:
• The consumer first previews the product with the 3D holographic system.
• Then the purchase is selected, packaged then sent: the whole process is filmed and can be visualized by the
consumer via security cam of the warehouse where the product is stored.
• Thanks to cargo aircrafts, which fly much more faster than before, distribution time is greatly reduced and that makes
possible all types of purchases, even alimentary.
16
17. Mass consumption Economy
As scientist at the Research Center of History,
I have always lived in Origo City and actively
participated to its reconstruction
Mass consumption was the deep cause of the 3rd World War.
Throughout the 21st century, a global over consumption urged more overall production of goods and services, which caused
irreversible environmental damage: water deterioration, rise of temperature and precipitation, intensive agriculture, biodiversity
threat, and exhaustion of natural resources (energy, raw material).
Gradually, there is more and more tension amongst countries to find new resources, but above all, to fight for existing resources.
As the number of countries mastering nuclear weapon increased exponentially, the last world war took place using those lethal
weapons.
That was the biggest disaster in the history of humanity, as only 10% of world population survived. Since then, a mammoth task
to rebuild our society has started and is continuing today.
17
18. Sustainable development
Environment
Economy Society
Since then, even if economic expansion is not entirely compatible
with sustainable development, the latter has become the consensus
driving the growth of our society, and definitely that of Origo City.
