STRUCTURE
What's a structure??
• A structure is a group of elements somehow
united to support a load with stability.
Everything has a structure.
• For example: humans have skeleton,
bicycles have a frame, houses have
columns, beams and a roof.
STRUCTURES EVERYWHERE!
• Buildings, tunnel, truss bridge,
egg, spider webs, machines, and
a lot of objects we normally use,
need a STRUCTURE or skeleton.
TYPES OF STRUCTURE
1. NATURAL STRUCTURE
2. MAN-MADE STRUCTURE
There are two types of structure:
NATURAL STRUCTURE
TREE
Structures are not new, nature
produced the first structures long
before humans were able to.
A tree has to carry the weight
of its own branches as well as
resisting strong winds.
BABO-BIRD NEST
This is an amaizing structure which is
create by babo-bird.
 structure has more flexibility.
 Can resist wind load.
 structure is weak in tension.
HONEYCOMB
Honeycomb structures are natural
structures that create by bee. Honeycomb
structures are a lattice of hollow, thin-
walled cells with relatively
high compression and shear properties.
The geometry of honeycomb structures
can vary widely but the common feature of
all such structures is an array of hollow
cells formed between thin vertical walls.
The cells are hexagonal in shape.
SPIDER WEBS
spider silk has strength as high as 1.75 GPa
at a breaking elongation of over 26%.
Spider webs are made of stretching silk.
It’s not just the strength of the silk itself, the
silk’s way of stretching and the structure of
the whole web help it resist damage.
Spider silk is a protein fibre spun
by spiders. Spiders use their silk to
make webs or other structures, which
function as sticky nets to catch other
animals, to suspend themselves.
EGG
They are made of a thin outer
layer of material that surrounds
a volume. it's a shell type
structure.
Natural shell structures: eggs,
shellfish
MAN-MADE STRUCTURE
• According to genetic and fossil researches, origin of the humans date
back to nearly 200,000 years ago. Man began to make objects and
structures from Mesolithic and Neolithic era of the human evolution.
BAMBOO HOUSE
 Bamboo are used for making the
structure.
Cheapest for construction.
No need to expert people for
construction.
Generally founds them in rural area.
TIMBER HOUSE
Made of timber.
They looks very beautiful.
Less durable.
Easy maintenance.
Relatively strong from bamboo house.
BRICK HOUSE
These are structure built by using
masonry units with mortar.
No need any foundation.
They are relatively small.
Easy maintenance.
R.C.C. STRUCTURE
The structures are made of
reinforcement, concrete, cement.
Mostly used structure all over the world.
Depending on foundation they can be
very large.
They are rigid structure not flexible.
TRUSS STRUCTURE
Structures are mainly made of steel.
 light structures that can span large distance.
Endure very heavy loads.
The design of the truss is very complex.
Thank you
