Dear Judges:
My name is Nicolas McClendon. I am a fun loving person that respects all and keeps
hard work and diligence as one of my top priorities. My goals I life are to enter the medical field
either as a surgeon or in service to the army. This goal led to my choice of surgical robots as my
senior project. I chose it because surgical robots will be used in the near future of the medical
field and this project helped me to be more prepared to work with these machines.
My product was multiple models of surgical robots which show different advantages and
disadvantages as my research paper described. There were three models, a paper model, wooden
model, and a lego model. I had many problems during this project ranging from technical
problem to lack of supplies. My biggest problem was when my brother gave away all legos I
owned. My project facilitator gave me some more legos, but it was not enough to make a second
model. Because of the lack of legos, I switched to plywood. With this plywood, I was able to
make a larger model to show the movements more clearly.
My research and exploration of surgical robots has led me to a fascination of the medical
field that I have never had before. It has shown me that the medical field is so much more
complicated than I originally thought. It has shown me that I will need to work hard in order to
be successful in the medical field and be able to save lives. With this I have discovered that I am
prepared to take on the challenge. I have learn I am ready to exceed in all that I do.
Overall, I believe my project it pretty cool although if I had enough money, it could have
been better. But I believe I did the best I could with the available resources. I hope you enjoy
this project as much as I have.
